The New York Post Is Still Very Thankful For Mark Sanchez's 'Buttfumble'

Thanksgiving traditions: Turkey, family and “the buttfumble.”

Mark Sanchez isn’t New York’s problem any more. But that doesn’t mean the New York Post isn’t still a problem for him. With the former Jets quarterback set to start for the Philadelphia Eagles on Thanksgiving, the newspaper splashed him across its back page to mock one of his most embarrassing holiday moments with its “Call Of Booty” headline.

buttfumble joke

Sanchez’s roller coaster five-season stint with the Jets may best — and unfairly — be remembered for one unfortunate turnover against the New England Patriots on Thanksgiving in 2012. With the Jets already trailing their rivals, Sanchez lost the ball after running directly into the ample backside of a teammate, offensive lineman Brandon Moore.

Two seasons later, Sanchez will be starting again on Thanksgiving, this time for the Philadelphia Eagles. The No. 5 overall selection in the 2009 NFL Draft joined the Eagles to back up starter Nick Foles before the 2014 season. He was thrust into the starting role after Foles suffered a broken collarbone on Nov. 2 against the Houston Texans.

“I can go over there right now and tease Mark about the buttfumble, and he’d laugh about it,” Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin told Bart Hubbuch of the Post before Sanchez’s first start of the 2014 season. “He’s fit right in here.”

Millions Expected To Shop On Thanksgiving

NEW YORK (AP) — Millions of Americans are expected to head to the stores for holiday gift shopping on Thanksgiving in what’s quickly becoming a new holiday tradition.

Just a few years ago when a few stores started opened late on the holiday, the move was met with resistance from workers and shoppers who believed the day should be sacred. Last year, more than dozen major retailers opened at some point on Thanksgiving evening. And this year, at least half of them — including Target, Macy’s, Staples and J.C. Penney — are opening earlier in the evening on the holiday.

The Thanksgiving openings are one way retailers are trying to compete for Americans’ holiday dollars. Used to be that the day after Thanksgiving, known as Black Friday, was when they’d focus their sales promotions. But increasingly, they’ve been pushing those promotions earlier on Friday — and eventually into the holiday itself — to grab deal-hungry shoppers’ attention.

Bill Martin, co-founder of ShopperTrak, which tracks data at 70,000 stores globally, is expecting a sales increase of 3 percent to 5 percent to $2.57 billion to $2.62 billion on Thanksgiving. Last year’s figure grew two-fold from the year before.

The National Retail Federation expects 25.6 million shoppers to take advantage of the Thanksgiving openings, down slightly down from last year.

Kathy Grannis, a spokeswoman at the retail trade group, said that earlier promotions in the month and shoppers’ uncertainty about when they can get the best deals are factors that could lead to fewer shoppers coming out on the holiday.

Nevertheless, Thanksgiving is starting to take a bite out of Black Friday business. Indeed, sales dropped 13.2 percent to $9.74 billion on Black Friday last year. Analysts said Thanksgiving sales were in part responsible for the decline.

And Gerald Storch, who runs a retail consultancy called Storch Advisors, said stores that open on Thanksgiving get more of their share for the weekend than others who open on Friday.

“That’s why they keep doing it,” he said. “You have to be first.”

Being first lures shoppers like Fred Peek of Atlanta. He plans to shop on Thanksgiving at Best Buy or Wal-Mart for a camera. Peek said that with more stores opening for a longer period of time on Thanksgiving, he believes shopping will be less hectic that last year.

“It won’t be such a rush trying to get to where I need to get to,” he said.

Not every store is opening on Thanksgiving, though. Some, including GameStop, Costco and Ikea, have said they won’t open because they want their workers to enjoy the holiday with their families.

“At GameStop, we often use the phrase ‘protect the family’ in reference to our business,” the video game retailer said in a company statement.

And not every shopper is happy about stores opening on the holiday. A number of petitions have been circulating on change.org targeting Wal-Mart, Target and other retailers for opening their stores on Thanksgiving, or starting their sales that day. Most of Wal-Mart’s stores already open around the clock.

I Can't Stop Watching These Parade Balloon Accident Videos

Like stock car races or primary debates, balloon parades are an alleged form of entertainment that’s mostly just boring until something goes wrong. Fortunately, with balloon accidents the resulting injuries are primarily psychic in nature—measured in months of therapy for poor Jacob after seeing Pikachu disemboweled by a lamppost—making them much more fun to watch.

New Call Of Duty Zombie Mode Confirmed In Trailer

Before Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was even released a trailer made its way online which showed off that the game could have a zombie mode. When the game did arrive as expected on November 4th the zombie mode was nowhere to be found. Many suspected that it might arrive in a later update. Today a trailer has been officially released which confirms the new Call of Duty zombie mode, and we now know that this is actually called Exo Zombies.

The trailer shows a soldier signalling an extraction by lighting up a flare only to be swarmed by zombies. As the soldier runs out of ammo he runs towards the flare and is picked up by an aircraft that also provides cover fire.

Gideon, a character gamers will be familiar with if they’ve played the campaign mode, checks the soldier to see if he has been bitten by any of the zombies. As he leans out of the aircraft to look at the complex that’s filled with the undead, one zombie jumps out towards the aircraft because it too has an exo suit.

When the trailer ends, the text defines this new mode as Exo Zombies and mentions that “season begins in January for Advanced Warfare DLC on Xbox Live.”

Clearly the new Call of Duty zombie mode is coming as a DLC though it hasn’t been confirmed if Exo Zombies is the first DLC that will be released for Advanced Warfare.

smoking-gunPeople talk about the smoking gun when it comes to finding concrete evidence when it comes to solving a particular crime or puzzle, pinpointing the dastardly act down on someone beyond reasonable doubt. The Smoking Gun would be an ideal addition to any kitchen or bar creations, as it is not only appealing but unique by itself as there are virtually no other methods that allow you to make such big flavor and aroma differences that easily. Taliban Attack Rocks Upscale Kabul District

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Taliban fighters staged an attack Thursday evening in an upscale district in the Afghan capital Kabul. Witnesses described multiple explosions and bursts of gunfire in the Wazir Akbar Khan district, which contains numerous foreign embassies and compounds housing international agencies and companies — as well as the homes of some senior Afghan government officials.

The attack came hours after a suicide car-bomber struck a British embassy vehicle, killing five people including a British citizen. Kabul Police Chief Gen. Mohammad Zahir said there were three explosions followed by extended gunfire. A Taliban spokesman said the intended target was a guesthouse in the district occupied by foreigners. The spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity, refused to give further details, adding only that the target of the attack was, “enemies.”

Afghan police flooded into the area and locked down the surrounding streets. Footage from area security cameras showed heavily armed security forces and armored vehicles deploying in large numbers.

The attack took place near the compound of the development agency International Relief and Development. The agency’s head of security, Tony Haslem, told The Associated Press the attack lasted about 45 minutes and he heard rocket propelled grenades and automatic weapons being fired.

Deputy Interior Minister Mohammad Ayoub Salangi confirmed that the target of the attack was a guesthouse in the diplomatic area. He said no foreigners had been killed.

“One Nepalese guard was wounded, but all the foreigners are fine,” Salangi said. Three attackers had been killed, two by Nepalese guards at the guesthouse, he said.

“One of the attackers blew himself up,” he added.

Kabul has come under regular attack in recent weeks. Earlier Thursday, a suicide bomber targeted a British embassy vehicle, killing at least five people, including a British security guard, officials said.

An Afghan national who was driving the vehicle was also killed, and a second British security guard was wounded, Britain’s Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said in a statement.

Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry spokesman Seddiq Sediqqi confirmed that four Afghans were killed in the attack and said another 33 civilians were wounded.

Earlier the British Embassy said no diplomats were riding in the car at the time it was hit.

Hammond, speaking at a press conference in Rome, called the attack “senseless and cowardly” and paid tribute to those killed.

“Let me take this opportunity to offer my condolences to those who lost their lives this morning, the families and friends of those who lost their lives and were injured in this appalling attack,” Hammond said. “It reminds us once again of the risks that our personnel take every day in trying to help the Afghans to build a better future for their country and by helping them to do so to protect our own security and our own interests. “

Police said that a car packed with explosives rammed the heavily armored British embassy vehicle, exploding on impact and sending a huge plume of dust and smoke into the air.

The midmorning attack happened on the traffic-choked road between Kabul and Jalalabad city. Witnesses said at least a dozen civilian cars were damaged by the blast, and the road was strewn with smoldering debris from the British vehicle.

Video footage showed the roof of the embassy jeep had been blown off and flung about 15 meters (50 feet) along the road, an indication that it was a powerful blast, as the vehicles are built to withstand substantial impact.

Taliban insurgents claimed responsibility for the attack in a brief statement.

In recent weeks, suicide bombers have launched attacks on military convoys and on compounds housing foreign service companies and their international employees.

Thursday’s suicide bomb attack is the first on a diplomatic target in Kabul for some time, as most embassies are secured behind high concrete blast walls with razor wire and guards with automatic weapons. The U.S. consulate in the eastern city of Herat was attacked last year and the Indian consulate in the same city was attacked in May this year.

In September 2011, insurgents launched a complex attack involving suicide bombers and gunmen on the diplomatic area of Kabul — close to the U.S. Embassy and NATO’s headquarters — that lasted around 20 hours and left seven people dead, none of them U.S. citizens.

Kabul has come under almost daily attack as insurgents intensify their war on local security forces and U.S. and NATO troops, who are set to officially conclude their combat role in the country at the end of next month.
