It takes 90 people to wrangle a Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon

Our annual day of helium excess is upon us. We speak, of course, of Thanksgiving and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. These giant floppy balloons, as tall as buildings and filled with 12,000 cubic feet of helium, are not graceful creatures. The average balloon requires 90 handlers just to get it down the street.

We're Just Three Years Away From Male Birth Control (Again)

For guys, birth control options are pretty limited, and for years we’ve been promised a male version of the pill—some reversible process that will protect against the threat of offspring that’s not as permanent as a vasectomy. This new injectable gel, however, has already proven nearly foolproof (in baboons at least) and could hit market within two years.

The Bike-Friendly Commuter Suit Review: Good at Bikes, Bad at Suit

You can’t ride a bicycle in a traditional suit. The wear and tear on that fabric will be enough to tear holes in the pants and rip the shoulder seams. Not a good look! You could keep a suit in a bag and change when you get to work, but you’d have to show up early. And stinky. Parker Dusseau has a different idea: formalwear specifically made for two-wheelers.

Amazon Fire Phone Price Dropped To $199

firephone display2 640x426Amazon might be one of the more famous tech companies which hail from the US, but this does not mean that all they do will be infallible in nature. While there are hits, surely there are misses along the way, and the Amazon Fire Phone happens to be one of them. In fact, Amazon has just dropped the price of its Fire Phone to just $199 – in an unlocked form factor, which means you can choose to use it with other compatible networks. The big question is, with this $250 discount taken into consideration, would the Amazon Fire Phone still be worth picking up?

While Amazon did manage to introduce a slew of unique things into its maiden smartphone outing, such as a 3D interface as well as the Firefly feature, the smartphone really failed to shine in most aspects, and it certainly espouses the proverb, “Jack of all trades, master of none.” Of course, the original $650 price tag that came along with the Amazon Fire Phone when it was first launched did play its part in the low adoption rate, but the price tag is not all that there was to it, since the mediocre hardware also had a role in this grossly underperforming handset.

Sony Alpha A7 Range Prices Revealed

sony a7 II 2014 11 20 01It was just a few days ago when we brought you word that the Sony Alpha A7 II was tipped to arrive over in the US some time in January or February next year. Well, here are some details on the company’s collection of full frame cameras which will see another four models thrown into the mix, while there are also price cuts for some of the current models. The upcoming Sony A7 full-frame interchangeable-lens camera, known as the A7 II, is the main catalyst for Sony’s permanent price cuts.

For starters, the body-only version of the Sony A7 falls would now cost $1,300, which is not the cheapest price where a full-frame camera is concerned, but chances are it is one of the lowest official price for an existing model, while those who prefer to pick it up in a kit alongside the 28-70mm f3.5-5.6 lens can do so for a more affordable $1,600. As for the Sony A7R, that model fails to benefit too much from Sony’s price cut, as it will cost $2,100 for the body alone.

Well, one thing is for sure – if you do not need to be an early adopter in the camera industry, and would like a more than decent performer while maximizing the use of your money, then it might be well worth the effort to check out these price cuts for your holiday shopping spree.
