It would appear that the pipe dreams of a USA-based launch of Xiaomi’s next product were just that. Today Xiaomi released an invitation/teaser one-sheet for an event that’ll take place next Tuesday, December 9th. This invite suggests that we’ll see something fabulous, or at least fabulously strange: “The air is not enough, the water is not enough, no matter how … Continue reading
In the wake of Apple’s iCloud security issues, CEO Tim Cook released a statement that said, in part, “when an online service is free, you’re not the customer. You’re the product.” In an interview with Time magazine, Facebook’s boss, Mark Zuckerberg, has a retort for that. With Facebook ramping up their own ad network, Zuck has taken offense to Cook’s … Continue reading

Outrage by proxy, maybe? A plaintiff in the Apple DRM lawsuit was withdrawn by their attorney today after it was discovered neither of the two plaintiffs named in the suit actually had an iPod that deleted music. In the spirit of making problems go away, sometimes you want to just launch a particular person/problem into the sun. So—could you? And just how big would the canon need to be?
Anyone who takes cooking semi-seriously should have at least a great chef’s or santoku knife, and a great paring knife. Today at Bloomingdales, you can get both from Shun, plus a knife block and honing steel for $225. The Shun Premier chef’s knife was one of your five favorites, and it’s certainly the most visually striking of the bunch. The santoku included in this set is virtually identical to that knife, only 1″ shorter. Buying the knives separately would cost nearly $300, so this price really is finely chopped.
