HBO Streaming Might Finally Stop Breaking All the Time

iOS 8.1.2 Released By Apple

apple logo 640x359

If you own an iOS device that supports the latest iteration to Apple’s mobile platform then you should read on. Apple today released iOS 8.1.2 for all supported devices. This is an incremental update that brings some important bug fixes, performance and stability improvements. iOS 8.1.2 has been released over-the-air for all supported iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models.

We were first introduced to iOS 8 at the Worldwide Developers Conference earlier this year. The software was then put through a beta program during which only registered developers had access to beta builds. They tinkered with it and provided Apple with feedback about any problems and bugs. iOS 8.0 was finally released to the public back in September.

iOS 8.1 was the first major update for this software which came a few weeks after Apple pushed out its latest iteration to the public. Since then there has been one incremental update for iOS 8.1.

Today we’re being treated to the second. According to the official changelog, iOS 8.1.2 brings bug fixes and takes care of a problem where ringtones purchased from iTunes Store may have been removed from devices. Those who faced this issue can visit itunes.com/restore-tones to bring back lost ringtones to the device.

iOS 8.1.2 is rolling out over-the-air and weighs in at just 28.2MB, so it shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes to get done with download and installation on your device.

First Sunset Overdrive DLC Releases Later This Month

sunset overdrive dlc

Sunset Overdrive is a title exclusive to the Xbox One, which is why before it was released both Microsoft and developer Insomniac Games spent a decent amount of time creating hype for this game. A live action trailer was even released for Sunset Overdrive, which took months to produce, shortly before the game was due to be released.

It has become a norm now for video game developers to push out new content for a title that they have already released through DLCs. These downloadable content packs bring everything from new gear, weapons to additional missions and gameplay modes. For gamers this means they get more out of their game, for developers this means they get to make money off of the game even when they’ve sold it.

It was revealed during this week’s Sunset TV episode, which was guest hosted by Larry Hyrb for Xbox Live, that the first “massive story-based” DLC for Sunset Overdrive will be released later this month. The DLC is called “The Mystery of the Mooil Rig.”

This DLC will add an oil rig to Sunset Overdrive’s universe with new water-based moves. Hryb also revealed that gamers will get access to “more missions, quests and challenges to tackle.” New traps, weapons, amps and multiplayer chaos squad objectives are onboard as well. More information will be revealed in the coming days.

Sunset Overdrive season pass holders, for which they paid $20, won’t have to pay extra for this DLC. So far the individual price for this DLC has not been released. The Mystery of the Mooil Rig will be released on December 23rd.

E-Waste Recycled, Delivers Power In Second Life

ewaste recycleIBM Research India which is based in Bangalore intends to make sure that discarded lithium laptop batteries will be able to live out a second life – not only does this mean that landfills will have clutter in them, but their cells would be repurposed in order to serve as energy supplies for those who live without being connected to the grid. This particular idea has already passed a small proof-of-principle test run with Bangalore’s working poor.

In other words, we are looking at tracking trash so that one will be able to gain a better understanding on the disposal habits of others – which in turn, will be able to improve recycling efforts. Making use of disused lithium batteries, they will be able to create a brand new device known as the UrJar, which is actually a multilingual name that pairs up the Hindi word urjafor “energy” with the word “jar.”

Hardware R&D firm Radio Studio were the ones behind the construction of these units, where laptop batteries were disassembled so that the relevant cells can be isolated, capable of still holding a few hours’ of charge on average. These cells will then be repackaged in a housing that has basic electronics, including a charging circuit that helps to limit the rate and level of charge on the lithium cells – so that fire risk is minimized.
