'Wolfenstein' remake adds cartoon violence, ridiculous physics

HD remakes are nothing new in the world of video games these days, but from the looks of it Super Wolfenstein HD isn’t your typical revamp. The shooter that started it all is a bit more destructible now, and, as Kotaku notes, it bears more than a pas…

Smartphone makers are banking on less being more

Crafting and selling a smartphone is hard. Crafting and selling a smartphone while legions of titans and upstart ankle biters do the same? Well, that’s just infinitely harder. You’d think it would be the newcomers struggling the most as they try to c…

4-Inch iPhone Rumored For 2015

apple logo 640x359

It has been a while since we heard any “iPhone mini” rumors, and now we have one. There were countless rumors and reports throughout 2014 that Apple is going to increase the display size on both iPhone models. That’s exactly what it did. In September we were treated to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, with their 4.7 and 5.5-inch displays respectively, these are the largest smartphones that Apple has ever produced. Could the company go back to the old days of 4-inch iPhones? A rumor from Taiwan certainly thinks so.

The rumor, which originates from Taiwan, cites part suppliers for Apple who are claiming that the company will release a new iPhone in 2015 which is going to have a 4-inch display.

The question remains, how will this smartphone fit in Apple’s iPhone lineup? The flagship devices have moved towards larger display sizes which are the market norm now. Apple is also rumored to discontinue the iPhone 5c in 2015 so one really has to wonder how this rumored 4-inch iPhone will fit in the lineup.

Apparently one of the reasons why Apple will launch this device is to appeal to women particularly who might not want to have a larger iPhone, since this one would be easier to control with one-hand. The rumor doesn’t contain any information regarding the specifications of this handset.

Obviously we can’t expect Apple to divulge its future plans, and there’s no comment from the company on this rumor, so it can’t be said for sure if it really is working on a 4-inch iPhone for next year. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.

HTC Hima Rumored To Be The Company’s Next Flagship

htconem8 plus

It looks like this is the end of the road for HTC One. The One (M7) and One (M8) HTC flagships have been incredibly popular with the Android community and while many believe that the next flagship will subsequently be called HTC One (M9) there have been rumors that indicate this naming scheme won’t be followed for the 2015 flagship. A new rumor claims that the new device is actually called HTC Hima internally, and that it will be launched with completely different branding in March 2015.

The rumor comes from @upleaks, a Twitter account which picked up the baton from the infamous @evleaks, and has proven to be correct on multiple occasions in the past. @upleaks had also said back in October that the next HTC flagship won’t be the One (M9) instead it would be called something else.

Latest on the Hima is that it’s being tested in carrier labs and that it will be offered by all major U.S. carriers once its unveiled by the company in March 2015. An announcement is expected at the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the new HTC flagship is expected to have a 5.0-inch full HD display, a Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB RAM, 20.7 megapixel rear camera and a 2,840mAh battery. A 13 megapixel front facing camera is also rumored.

@upleaks also claims that there will be an HTC Hima Ace as well, a toned down cheaper version of the flagship, which will have dual SIM support and will primarily be geared towards emerging markets like China.

All of these rumors are unverified claims as of now since there’s no news from HTC regarding its future plans, so do take this with a grain of salt.

BlackBerry Classic Experience Shown Off On Video

Earlier this year BlackBerry had confirmed that in 2014 it will only released two high-end devices. The Passport has already been in the market for a couple of months now and has been performing well, exceeding BlackBerry’s own expectations, and only recently the company formally unveiled BlackBerry Classic. Its a smartphone that borrows function key belt and trackpad from the BlackBerrys of days gone by and is meant to attract BB loyalists. The company has posted a new video online which shows the user experience of this new device.

The reason why there’s a need to do this is because BlackBerry’s new operating system, BB10, which was unveiled last year has been built from the ground up for gestures. It virtually eliminates the need for a trackpad for function key belt which is why the Classic is the only BB10 compatible device that has these hardware fixtures. No other BB10 device has them.

This is why BB loyalists would want to check out the video and see how the trackpad and function key belt work on this BB10 powered device. The gestures will continue to work as well so they’ll kind of get the best of both worlds.

The BlackBerry Classic is already up for pre-order through the company’s own online store. It will start shipping by mid-December and it costs $449 off contract.

iPhone 6 Plus Accounts For 41 Percent Of U.S. ‘Phablet’ Sales

iPhone 6 review 12 640x426

Smartphones that have significantly large displays are affectionately referred to as “phablets.” The iPhone has never been in that category until this year when back in September Apple launched the iPhone 6 Plus. This smartphone has a 5.5-inch display which puts it squarely in the phablet category and by the looks of this it will soon rule this category, at least in the U.S. Data from Kantar Worldpanel shows that the iPhone 6 Plus accounted for 41 percent of all phablet sales in the country.

That is a rather interesting achievement given the fact that this smartphone has been in the market for some three months now, that’s a relatively short time when you pit it against some of its rivals. Kantar’s data also shows that phablets are now responsible for 10 percent of all smartphone sales in the country, that’s a 2 percent bump from the same time in 2013.

A survey conducted by Kantar at point of sale shows that 58 percent of those surveyed bought the iPhone 6 Plus primarily because of its larger display size, something which many iPhone fans had been anxiously waiting for.

Despite this the iPhone 6 clinched the crown as the best selling iPhone model, accounting for 33 percent of the sales, with iPhone 5s following in second with 26 percent. The iPhone 6 Plus only accounted for 10 percent of all iPhones sales in the three months that it has been available in the market.

Google Inbox To Receive Undo Send Feature Soon

Inbox2

A couple of months back Google introduced a new application for email called Inbox. The only way one can use this application right now is if they receive an invite. Naturally this is given birth to an invite frenzy which Google itself has fed multiple times. The Inbox team took to reddit yesterday for a Q&A session during which it was revealed that they are working on an undo send feature which would soon be added to the app.

Undo send would do what the name suggests, allow users to retract an email that they’ve sent. It will certainly be a very practical feature as it often happens that we send an email to a wrong contact or mention something, or forget to mention something, before shooting off an important email.

A similar feature has already been available at the Google Mail Labs. It offers a 10-second window in which users can undo a sent message in Gmail, though the team hasn’t confirmed if that’s the way this feature is going to work in Inbox.

Other features that the team is working on include cross-browser support, integration with Google Drive as well as a tablet application. All of these features are expected to land in the coming weeks. The team did reveal that there is a “long list” of Gmail features which will be added to Inbox eventually, we’ll just have to wait for it.

North Korea Denies Hacking Sony Pictures

sony pictures hacked

We have been following up on the Sony Pictures hack from the day it was first reported. Computer systems at Sony Pictures were compromised last week and sensitive data was stolen. Four unreleased movies were stolen as well which were then leaked online through torrents. Naturally it has all been quite embarrassing for the company which at one point was even investigating links of the hack with North Korea. The DPRK has officially commented on the matter, denying any involvement in this attack.

The reason why some suspected North Korea could be behind this attack was because the country had expressed reservations over an upcoming Sony Pictures movie where the plot is the assassination of Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea.

A recent report claimed that investigation of this hack had revealed code similar to what was found after South Korean institutions were hit with cyberattacks a few months back, those cyberattacks were believed to be the work of North Korea as well.

A North Korean diplomat based in New York told a Voice of America broadcast, anonymously, that links between the hack and DPRK are “another fabrication targeting the country.” The diplomat added that “My country publicly declared that it would follow international norms banning hacking and piracy.”

The diplomat’s comments come following a report which claims that the malware Sony was hit with was written in Korean. Moreover it was reported yesterday that Sony is all but ready to name North Korea as the source of this attack, but so far no such announcement has been made.

Details About Samsung E700 Surface

samsung logo 640x389

Looks like there’s yet another smartphone that Samsung has up its sleeve. If recent findings are correct then this device will be released by the company either by the end of this year or in early 2015. The launch might come either before or after the Galaxy A7 which would actually be the thinnest smartphone that Samsung has ever launched. As far as this device is concerned it is believed to be a mid-range smartphone carrying model number E700.

If what we know about the E700 is correct then its likely going to be a mid-range smartphone that’s an affordable alternative to the Galaxy A7. The Samsung Galaxy A7 is going to be a premium phablet so it would make sense for the company to release a similar looking device that is comparatively cheaper.

A user agent profile from Samsung’s own website shows that the E700 may have a 5.5-inch 720p display with a 32-bit processor clocked at 1.5GHz. No further details have appeared online as yet apart from the possibility that it might come with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

Previous findings have also indicated that a variant of this phone might be released only for emerging markets where it will have support for dual SIMs. Samsung is yet to confirm anything about the E700, there’s radio silence from the company on this up till now.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection Patch Won’t Fully Fix Uneven Teams

Halo Xbox One Reveal 04 640x359

Xbox owners were finally able to play the much awaited game Halo: The Master Chief Collection last month when it was launched. However the launch wasn’t without its problems. Since then multiple patches have been released to fix the issues with the latest landing the previous night. This patch fixes some matchmaking issues but 343 Industries, the developer, warns that it won’t fully resolve uneven teams.

Issues with matchmaking have irked many gamers ever since this title was launched. Multiple patches have been released to fix the issues but so far the experience hasn’t been improved to the point where it could be considered top-notch. Developer 343 Industries has already apologized for all the issues that gamers have faced up till now.

In a post on the official blog, 343 Industries has said that while the latest patch for Halo: The Master Chief Collection will improve team balance issues, “we do not expect it to fully resolve uneven teams.” It says that the next content update which is destined to arrive early next week is going to take care of team balance issues.

343 Industries acknowledges that the latest patch addresses “several high-priority improvements,” while adding that it will continue to work on additional content updates to address other issues. It promises additional updates which will further improve the experience with Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
