Samsung seems to be trimming a lot of proverbial fat to streamline its devices and services business. The company was recently reported to be taking a similar step with ChatON, its cross platform messaging service, and now there are reports about WatchON being primed to bite the dust. A statement from Samsung confirms that the WatchON service will be shut down in certain markets by the end of this month.
The first indication that something like this was about to happen came through Twitter when screenshots of notifications being sent to WatchON users started being shared online. The screenshots revealed that Samsung WatchON would be shut down by December 31st.
An official statement provided by Samsung to the folks at Sammobile confirms that this is indeed happening. From December 31st, Samsung WatchON will discontinue full service in all markets except United States and Korea. Customers who have previously purchased content need not worry as the content will not be affected and will remain accessible through the relevant content provider’s application.
Those who just used the app for its remote control feature can now use Smart Remote, a standalone app that debuted with Galaxy S5 precisely for this purpose.
Customers who might have questions or concerns about this move are encouraged to get in touch with Samsung’s customer support team by heading over to this website.

Samsung has finally started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for this year’s flagship smartphone. Customers in many markets of the world have been anxiously waiting for this update to drop. Not too long ago LG released Lollipop for the G3 in Poland and Samsung has decided to follow suit. Anyone and everyone in Poland with a Samsung Galaxy S5 model SM-G900F can now download the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
This is the first such official release of its kind for the Galaxy S5. Previously we have seen leaked Android 5.0 builds running on the Galaxy S5 but no stable ones have been leaked as yet.
Those who know their model numbers will be aware that SM-G900F is the international unlocked variant of the Galaxy S5. This means that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be appearing for this particular variant in other markets as well, other European countries are likely going to be the first ones to receive the Lollipop update.
We must address the all-important question here. There’s no concrete release timeframe for this update as far as North America is concerned. Samsung certainly hasn’t confirmed any dates and we must keep in mind that delays at the hands of mobile carriers will also go a long way in delaying the release of Lollipop for end users.

T-Mobile Postpones Nexus 9 Launch
Posted in: Today's ChiliNot too long ago Google unveiled a handful of new Nexus products and that’s when we got to see the much rumored Nexus 9 tablet. The tablet has been available for purchase through a variety of retailers and resellers, T-Mobile was supposed to offer it soon as well, but things have taken a turn for the worse at the carrier as far as this tablet is concerned. T-Mobile is postponing the Nexus 9 launch for the time being.
Internal communication made public by TmoNews confirms that the launch of Google Nexus 9 has been postponed. T-Mobile hasn’t exactly said what is the reason behind this delay and no new date has been confirmed as yet. The internal communication only says that T-Mobile will launch the Nexus 9 “on a date to be determined.”
The new Nexus devices have had a bit of hard time on T-Mobile this year. Nexus 6 launch at the carrier had to be delayed by a week because shipments hadn’t arrived, and even when they did, delivery of 64GB models was an issue in itself. Now the Nexus 9 launch gets postponed through no apparent fault of the carrier.
Previous reports had suggested that the Nexus 9 will be launched by T-Mobile in December, even though a date hadn’t been officially confirmed by the carrier. Now we’ll have to wait and see when it makes an announcement regarding this.

A far-fetched rumor out of Korea today suggests that some of the most highly anticipated flagships of the coming year might be delayed due to issues with the Snapdragon 810 processor from Qualcomm. This chip is expected to more flagships like the Galaxy S6 and the LG G4 to name a few, it may even be found in the likes of HTC One (M9).
So what exactly are the issues that this processor is facing? According to the report Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 is facing overheating problems at various voltage levels which is directly resulting into under-performance, and that’s an issue that no OEM would want to have in its flagship, or any other device for that matter.
But this isn’t the only problem being reported. Apparently the RAM controller is causing many headaches over at Qualcomm, apart from the possibility that the Adreno 430 graphics processor is also proving to be problematic.
These issues are being cited as the reasons behind production delay, which would inevitably lead to delays in devices that are supposed to be powered by the Snapdragon 810.
Samsung does release certain variants of its flagships with its own Exynos processors, but it isn’t likely for the Korean giant to give up on Qualcomm’s processors altogether. LG introduced its own NUCLUN processors recently but those are rumored to be faulty so it will have to wait on Qualcomm as well for processors for the LG G4.
The company is tightlipped on this report as yet so no official confirmation from Qualcomm as yet regarding issues with its next major processor.

LG G Watch R Review
Posted in: Today's Chili The G Watch R is LG’s second Android Wear smartwatch, which is impressive given that the platform has only been available to the general public for about half a year, and other big Android OEMs haven’t yet shipped a first device. The original G Watch felt very much like the wearable hardware equivalent of a “FIRST” Internet comment, however, delivering little in the way… Read More

On a glorious September evening in Washington, the British Ambassador’s Residence in Washington was the venue for a send-off party for the 2014 class of Marshall Scholars. As host and keynote speaker respectively, we delivered our words of advice to over 30 brilliant young Americans embarking on a period of postgraduate study in the United Kingdom. Then we mingled and swapped stories with the new class. For many of them the next couple of years will become the defining moments in their young adulthood. All of this has been made possible by a generous grant from the British Government established by Act of Parliament in 1953 in gratitude for the Marshall Plan that helped rebuild Britain and Europe from the ashes of World War II.
The Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission (MACC) – the public body that administers the Marshall Scholarship – together with the US alumni group, the Association of Marshall Scholars, have been celebrating this 60th anniversary year with a series of major events and lectures on both sides of the pond, launched by our Patron, His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Each will be an occasion to celebrate the contribution which higher education links make to our deep transatlantic partnership.
This week the MACC announced the 31 winners of this year’s competition, who will go on to comprise the class of 2015. This is the culmination of a rigorous process in which selection committees across the country sifted applications and interviewed from a pool of hundreds of the most talented students in the United States. These committees are composed of British Government officials working alongside American volunteers – many of them Marshall Alumni – who are leaders in their fields.
The winners come from all corners of the country, represent great diversity of gender, ethnicity and socio-economic background, and will study at universities across the United Kingdom. There they will join thousands of other Americans, some of them supported by other prestigious scholarships such as Rhodes, Gates and Fulbright. According to the latest QS World University Rankings, British universities now comprise four of the top six in the world, so it’s no surprise that we remain the top study abroad destination for American students. Indeed Britain is the destination for 12% of all the international students in the world.
Our own experiences in British higher education- one at New College, Oxford, the other as a Marshall Scholar at Queen’s University Belfast and the London School of Economics – helped prepare us for our careers in public service. One as a career diplomat who has served as Ambassador to Turkey, France and now the United States; the other in US political life, currently as the White House Director of Legislative Affairs charged with navigating some not uncomplicated relations with Congress.
Many Marshall Scholars – such as Peter Orszag, former White House Budget Director; or Bill Burns, the recently retired Deputy Secretary of State – also go into public service. But Marshalls are active in all walks of life: entrepreneurs and innovators like LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman and the late musical pioneer Ray Dolby; Pulitzer Prize winners including Tom Friedman, Anne Applebaum and Dan Yergin; top lawyers like Stanford’s Kathleen Sullivan and Supreme Court Justice Stephen Beyer; leading academics and scientists such as Nobel Prize winning chemist Roger Tsien; and groundbreaking stem cell researcher Doug Melton.
These and almost two thousand other Marshall Scholars have, over the last 60 years, made an enormous contribution to the well-being of our two countries, and the collaboration and partnership that characterises our special relationship. We are delighted that many alumni have chosen to give back by contributing to an endowment fund that will complement British government resources and help send even more talented young Americans to the UK.
So, once again, we thank our Alumni, offer our congratulations to the incoming Class of 2015, and invite other outstanding students who aspire to further their education abroad in the United Kingdom to consider applying to become a Marshall Scholar in the future.
