Solar Sunglasses Hates To Be Forgotten

solar sunglassesIf you happen to be a huge fan of wearing sunglasses whenever you head out as the sun is doing its thing in full swing, then you would most probably have amassed quite a collection by now, although there would be moments where you would have forgotten a pair or two, leaving it on the table, or at the hotel room upon checking out. If only there was a way to keep track of where your sunglasses are. Australia-based Tzukuri happened to have worked on a new pair of solar sunglasses, where they will also feature the ability to remind you that you have left your pair behind somewhere.

Harnessing the power of the sun to provide adequate juice, these battery-efficient sunglasses will feature an integrated chip and a solar cell to get going. The chip itself will communicate with your connected iPhone using iBeacon technology from Apple, alongside Bluetooth Low Energy just in case you happen to move away from the pair of sunglasses. It will consume extremely little power, and the app itself is said to not drain the battery on your smartphone.

The app will send you an alert should you happen to be more than 15 feet away from the solar sunglasses, and will continue sending alerts up to 82 feet. Sounds like the perfect idea, especially for folks like me who tend to have a forgetful mind.

Carbon Flyer Drone Controlled Via Bluetooth

carbonflyerNow here is a drone that is rather unique in its own right. The Carbon Flyer hails from Trident Design, where this flying drone will be an ultralight airplane which will fly about using its own power source, and will be controlled through Bluetooth instead of a RF remote, where there will also be an integrated camera in the Carbon Flyer itself that will stream whatever it “sees” during the flight to your connected smartphone, giving you a real time view of what is happening from above.

So far, the Carbon Flyer remains as an Indiegogo project, where early bird units are said to cost $89 if you are interested. The entire body of the Carbon Flyer happens to be made out of carbon fiber, hence its name, and it boasts of a design which will enable the drone to remain rough and tough even when it crash lands, which is quite unlike some of the other more fragile drones that will break upon landing in an awkward manner. The use of carbon fiber alongside nantotube epoxy will surely play a role in the overall sturdiness of the drone. Do you think that the use of carbon fiber will increase among drones that will roll out in the near future?

LG G3 Screen Sales Reportedly Hit By Faulty Processor

lg g3 screen 640x425

Throughout this entire year we had been hearing rumors that LG is going to introduce a smartphone which will be powered by its own NUCLUN octacore processor. That smartphone was finally unveiled back in October. The LG G3 Screen is powered by the company’s own processor and on the face of it, the device looks quite like the LG G3. A report out of Korea claims that sales of this device have been hit hard because the NUCLUN processor is faulty.

Citing anonymous industry sources the report claims that LG’s own processor is “one generation” behind entry-level processors from Chinese chipmakers like MediaTek and Huawei. The report singles out a problem with the chipset which LG developed over two years to the tune of $179 million.

Apparently the processor downclocks its clock speed fairly aggressively when operating temperatures rise. This has a direct affect on the performance and these days nobody likes a sluggish phone, which is why it won’t surprise anyone if this is really the reason why sales have been hit hard.

LG hasn’t officially confirmed what has been claimed in this report so there’s always the possibility that things might not be what they’re being made out to be. It is likely that a problem with the firmware might be causing performance issues and there might not be anything wrong with the company’s own chipset, but its too soon to say that for sure right now.

ASUS VivoMini Shown Off

asus vivominiIt was in September this year that we made mention of the ASUS VivoMini being revealed, where we did learn that it will feature a $149 price tag over in the U.S., alongside an Intel Haswell processor running at the heart of things while boasting of support for the Windows 8.1 operating system. Well, it seems that additional light has been shed on the rest of the hardware specifications for the ASUS VivoMini, not to mention the various configuration options made available for those who are interested.

It is tipped that the ASUS VivoMini will arrive in at least 4 different variants. For starters, there will be a barebones VivoMini UN42, or the barebones VivoMini UN42 with the Celeron 2957U processor, that will be accompanied by 2GB RAM, a 32GB SSD, and Windows 8.1 with Bing. Alternatively, you can also pick from the barebones VivoMini UN62 that carries either an Intel Core i3-4030U or Intel Core i5-4210U processor. Shared hardware specifications include 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, Gigabit Ethernet, an SDXC memory card reader, a couple of USB 3.0 ports, HDMI and DisplayPort output.

Do you like what you see so far, or do you think that this is a machine that is way too underpowered for your computing needs at the moment?

Apple TV Is Now The Third Most Popular Streaming Device

apple tv

The Apple TV set-top box has almost always been regarded as a hobby project by the folks at Cupertino. It has been a while since they released a major update for this product, which is why we see the Apple TV bleeding marketshare. Last year it held 26 percent of the streaming market, this year its down to 17 percent, climbing down as the second most popular streaming device to being the third now.

Data from Parks Associates show that 10 percent of U.S. broadband households purchased a streaming media player or stick in the first three quarters of this year, which is why sales have been evenly matched this year as opposed to 2013. With customers Roku happens to be the leading brand, accounting for 29 percent of all sales.

Google Chromecast has seen a meteoric rise in its popularity as well. The company was caught unaware by demand for this product. The $35 HDMI dongle took Apple TV’s place as the second most popular streaming device and accounted for 20 percent of all sales.

Apple TV’s slump continued as it only accounted for 17 percent of the sales. Though its not exactly this product’s fault why customers are no longer purchasing it in greater quantities. There hasn’t been a serious update in a while now, and one isn’t expected until next year, so unless Apple pulls out a new set-top box from under its sleeve, the slump is likely to continue for this device.

Soloshot 2 Helps You Shoot Yourself

soloshot2Fancy shooting yourself? And by that, I certainly do not mean committing suicide – far from it. What I am referring to would be the Soloshot 2, which is the successor to the Soloshot that we talked about a couple of years ago. The Soloshot 2 has received a rather noticeable facelift to keep up with the times, not to mention being on the receiving end of some rather distinct features that makes it all the more appealing to those who would want to capture a video of themselves without anyone else in the vicinity to aid them.

For starters, the Soloshot 2 is extremely easy to use for one simple reason – it works in the exact same manner as that of its predecessor. It will feature a base that allows you to lock with your tripods, while there is a wearable tag that functions as the transmitter. All videos which are captured will be done through the tracking of the motion of these tags, where you would tie these tags onto your wrists. With the Soloshot 2, there is an improved tag that would assist you in controlling your video capture.

How so? Well, videos can now be captured through simple clicks on the tag buttons, and this will include both starting or stopping of the capture, as well as highlighting points in the video for future sessions. There is also a new tilt feature that has been thrown into the mix so that you can capture your motion better. The base itself has an 8 hour battery life on a full charge, and the Soloshot 2 will feature an asking price of $399 a pop.

No CAPTCHA reCAPTCHA Can Tell If You’re A Bot

Captchas are one of the more irritating things about the Internet, but I guess you can also classify them to be some sort of necessary evil, so to speak. After all, it does do its bit to eliminate the amount of potential spam in the long run. However, there is something annoying about trying to figure out the warped combination of letters and figures which can be pretty difficult to decipher for a human even at times, which is why Google intends to shake things up with their brand new “No CAPTCHA reCAPTCHA”.

The No CAPTCHA reCAPTCHA is said to be able to instantly figure out if you’re a bot or not, using what they call a “risk analysis engine” which will take into consideration the various nuances of an Internet user – including one’s IP address as well as the movements of your mouse cursor. Should you fail to pass the test (or rather, fool the system), then you will be redirected to the tried and tested CAPTCHA. It would be interesting to see just what kind of computer user would be able to “fool” the No CAPTCHA reCAPTCHA though. What are some of the better ways that you can think of for a computer to know whether the user is a human or otherwise? [Press Release]

Spotify Releases List Of Most Popular Artists And Tracks In 2014

spotify apps

There’s no doubt in the fact that music lovers are moving towards streaming services, which is why digital music sales have dipped over the past year. Spotify is one of the most widely used music streaming services and today it released a list of most popular artists and tracks of 2014. The company’s Year In Review shows that its more than 50 million active users streamed over 7 billion hours of music, which is equal to almost 800,000 years of listening.

The album streamed the most around the world was Ed Sheeran’s “x,” which also makes him the most streamed artist around the world. Rap icon Eminem was the most streamed artist in the U.S., with Katy Perry overtaking Rihanna as the most streamed female artist.

Interestingly Taylor Swift was missing from the list. Anyone who has been following music related news over the past couple of weeks would know about the Spotify-Taylor Swift beef which resulted in the latter pulling all of her music from the service. When asked if she was missing from the list because of the debacle, Spotify said that the results haven’t been modified, she simply didn’t make the list.

The most streamed track in the U.S. this year was Fancy by Iggy Azalea, followed by Katy Perry’s Dark Horse and Happy by Pharrell Williams.

Run Concept Offers Innovative Training System

colors of runRunning has more or less been a solitary affair, where you basically compete against yourself, although doing so in a community or with a bunch of friends can more often than not make the entire experience all the more fun. After all, we are social creatures, so this is to be expected. The concept of Run is an interesting one, where it will allow runners to compete with anyone anywhere, regardless of their existing physical location.

The Run concept is based on an innovative smart textile that is made up of a soft, flexible fabric which is capable of changing color. Featuring a functioning interface which has been seamlessly integrated with the aesthetics of the footwear itself, runners will be able to race regardless of where they are, while keep track of their speed with these running shoes simultaneously. The smart shoe would be part of the system, in addition to a website, a smartphone application and a compliant infrastructure which will eventually accommodate numerous niche markets within the sports and gaming industries.

Integrated into the prototype would be a thin electroluminescent (EL) wire that is made of copper and coated in a phosphor, where it will then be able to glow should an alternating current be applied to it. This means the upper segment of the shoe can replicate the visual experience of the color-shifting fabric, where green would point to the lead runner, while orange means middle-of-the-road, and red, well, no one wants red since that indicates being last.

Man Gets Jail Sentence For ‘Revenge Porn’ Facebook Post

revenge porn

Back in October 2013 California governor Jerry Brown signed the “revenge porn” bill into law. The legislation classified revenge porn as a criminal misdemeanor which meant that vindictive ex-lovers distributing intimate content of an ex to humiliate them could face up to six months in jail and be fined $1,000. The first person to be convicted under this law is 36-year old Noe Iniguez who posted a naked picture of his ex-girlfriend on her employer’s Facebook page with derogatory comments.

Iniguez, who is based in Los Angeles, posted the picture on his ex-girlfriend’s employer’s Facebook page back in March. The picture was accompanied with comments that called her a “drunk” among other not-so-nice things, while urging her employer to fire her.

He used an alias, being under the impression that it would cloak his actual identity, but that wasn’t really a smart move. His ex-girlfriend had already got a restraining order against him.

Iniguez received a one year jail sentence apart from 36 months of probation. He was also instructed to attend domestic violence counselling following his conviction under the revenge porn law and being in violation of a restraining order.

State prosecutor Mike Feuer said that this conviction sends a “strong message” that such behavior is not going to be tolerated.
