Vince Guaraldi Trio: Christmastime Is Here (Instrumental)

I consider myself lucky. I managed to make it through the first weekend of December relatively unscathed by bad Christmas music—I didn’t even hear the “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” remake, which I consider a victory. But there’s one album you could put on repeat from now until December 25 and I wouldn’t mind one bit: A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Bionic Bra automatically boosts and loosens to keep your breasts in place

Hey ladies. Let’s have a bit of girl talk. Specifically, let’s talk about boobs. Both you and I know that shopping for bras is a pain. They almost never fit perfectly, they’re awkward to deal with and worst of all, they can be damned uncomfortable. P…

Amazon apparently testing bike couriers for some Manhattan deliveries

While Amazon deals with regulatory hurdles for its drone-based rapid delivery service, it’s apparently testing an option that’s a bit more, well, human in the meantime. The shopping juggernaut is holding time-trials for bike messengers in New York, a…

Bose Products To Return To Apple Stores Next Week [Rumor]

A couple of months ago there were rumors that Apple could be removing Bose’s products from their stores. Those rumors were later proven to be true which is disappointing for customers who were looking to pick up some Bose products from Apple’s retail stores. Well the good news is that Apple could be looking to restock Bose’s products in their stores once again.

This is according to French Apple website iGen.fr (via MacRumors) who claims that Apple stores have recently begun to receive shipments of Bose products and that the restocking of Bose products could take place as soon as next week. It is unclear as to why Apple decided to remove Bose’s products in the first place, and why they could have a change of heart now.

Previously it had been speculated that this could be due to a lawsuit between Bose and Beats, and given that Apple now owns Beats, it could have been Apple’s way of retaliating against the lawsuit. However the lawsuit between Bose and Beats was later settled so perhaps that could be a reason as to why Apple has decided to reinstate Bose’s audio products in their stores.

With that in mind, does this mean that we could eventually expect Fitbit’s products to be reinstated in Apple’s stores as well? Fitbit’s products were similarly removed from Apple’s stores without any explanation. While some might argue it could be because Apple doesn’t want an Apple Watch competitor, it should be noted that the Cupertino is still selling other fitness products from Jawbone and other companies.

Nexus 4 Dialer Experiencing Issues Post-Android 5.0 Update

Google Nexus 4 Review 01 640x426Now we’re sure that when Android 5.0 Lollipop was released to the public, many Nexus 4 owners were probably eager to update their handset to the latest build of Android. However while the update brought about a host of changes to their phones, including Google’s new Material Design language, it seems that it brought several issues as well.

According to a smattering of reports, it seems that Android 5.0 for the Nexus 4 has caused users some problems with their dialer. The dialer still works, for the most part, but apparently it now takes as long as 3-4 seconds for the dialer to launch, and in some cases calls fail to go through as a result of the lag.

It is unclear if this is a widespread issue or just limited to a handful of Nexus 4 owners, but based on the growing list of complaints, it could be the former. Google has yet to officially acknowledge the problem either, but hopefully this is something that Google will take a look at ASAP. After all what good is a phone if you can’t even make calls with it, right?

That being said, any of our readers out there with Nexus 4 handsets experiencing similar issues themselves after the Android 5.0 update? Let us know in the comments below!

Smart Lock Lets You Lock/Unlock Your Chromebook With Your Android Phone

smart lock chromeosIf you tend to bring your laptop to school or to work, chances are you will probably want to password protect it lest someone starts accessing files and documents without your knowledge while your computer is left unattended. However having to constantly re-enter your password can be a rather tedious process, but wouldn’t it be awesome if you could unlock your computer via your smartphone?

Well the good news is that if you’re a Chromebook owner, you will soon be able to unlock your laptop via your Android device. This is thanks to the Smart Lock feature that was announced earlier this year at Google I/O. Basically what this means for users is that instead of having to type their password, users will just need to be within range of their laptop to unlock it.

This is done via Bluetooth connectivity, which is why Google has warned that due to the range, your could be as far as 100 feet away and your Chromebook is still left unlocked. In order to sign back into your Chromebook, you will just need to click the icon on your computer and it will unlock without users having to re-enter their password.

As it stands Smart Lock for Chrome OS has been featured in the Dev channel and is being beta tested by developers, so hopefully what this means is that users will be able to expect a public release in the near future. It should also be noted that this will only work with Android devices running Android 5.0 Lollipop and above.

The Stridalyzer Is An Insole That Aims To Help Runners Improve Themselves

If you’re an avid runner who takes part in marathons, or if you’re just a runner who runs for health and fitness, a Kickstarter project for a device called the Stridalyzer might be of interest to you. So what is it? Well the Stridalyzer is basically an insole designed with runners in mind. Thanks to the sensors built into the insole, it will be able to analyze the way you run and also offer you corrections to improve yourself.

According to the description of the Stridalyzer, “Stridalyzer uses a pair of insoles with a novel, patent-pending technology with multiple sensors integrated in them, to detect how your foot lands, rolls and pushes off the ground.” The device will also pair with an accompanying smartphone app that will alert the user if they’re doing something wrong.

That way users can keep concentrating on their run and will only need to pay attention to their form if and when the app alerts them to it. The Stridalyzer will also be able to monitor the stress placed on your foot and knee in real-time, so if you’re wondering why you’re starting to feel tired or feeling any signs of pain, the app should be able to tell you why. It’s also a good idea for those who tend to overtrain.

It’s an intriguing project and one that we’re sure many runners would love to have, especially if you’re the type that loves to run marathons and are wondering how you might be able to improve your times or how to better train yourself. The creators of the Stridalyzer are seeking $25,000 in funding so if you’d like to learn more or pledge your support, head on over to its Kickstarter page for the details.

O Christmas Tree

The very early morning sky is awash in vibrant violet and still sequined in strands of stars. They shiver and twinkle like silver tinsel above us as we head out into the incredible cold, our noses already dripping, our bones beginning to ache.

We walk the logging road that winds through the woods for miles. We walk in silence through the tangled arms of grey birches locked in intricate embrace and the heavily burdened branches of cedars and tamaracks. Around a sharp bend the road emerges into a smooth and snowy white field over which a huge moon, the color of a tangerine, is setting in the face of the rising sun.

I take in a frosty breath, letting it out in a sigh. What a beautiful beginning to this very special day! Because today is the day we will find the Christmas tree, the tree I have been dreaming about for most of the autumn.

I am like the kid in the proverbial candy store as we move to the field’s edge where the younger trees huddle in the drifts, a long parade of conifers decorated in the diamonds of ice-encrusted cones. The white dog and I are running now among the trees, wind whirling round us in a shimmery spray as we romp in the snow.

My mother taught me how to appreciate a tree and so I begin to sort out the stiff and elegant spruces from the white pines with their long soft needles, the straight and lacy hemlocks from the deeply dusky firs. I am always amazed at how many shades of green there are! The air is redolent with their menthol scent as I caress each one, cleaning away some snow, the dog licking sap from my hands.

We are here for what seems like hours, searching, evaluating, comparing. We pour hot coffee into our cups, stirring it with candy canes and follow some tracks down to a stream. A barred owl swoops over us in a velvety shadow, a fox has passed this way so recently his scat still steams in the frigid air. I stand very still, thinking I can surely hear him breathing somewhere close by, feeling as excited as a fan in the company of a celebrity.

And then magically it materializes right there in front of us. As I turn I see it, THE tree, a small sturdy fir, smokey green with cantilevered branches perfect for the placement of lights and ornaments. It grows before me, just my size, five feet tall and with a bird’s nest lined in snakeskin nestled in its heart.

I look over at my friend, my breath coming very hard, my hand over my own heart. “This is the one! This is the one I want!” I cannot believe I will have this tree, that it will be mine, bringing into the house all its mystery and enchantment, years of thunder and lightning storms, starlight, rain and sleet, wind and heat, all part of its story. I think of other years and other birds nesting there, of rabbits seeking shelter at its roots, of butterfly chrysalises suspended from its twigs, a fawn hiding camouflaged in its shade.

I see in my mind’s eye the sapphire lights I bought at the store, the golden garlands and the pine cones I dipped in gilt and bronze, the stems of scarlet holly berries I will so carefully tuck into its arms. And as I watch my friend kneel to place the silvery saw against the small trunk, its jagged teeth gleaming in the sun, I begin to tremble. I find myself suddenly flinging out my hand to stop him before the metal bites the wood.

“Please don’t. I can’t,” is all I can say. He looks up at me and slowly lowers the saw. He gets to his feet and puts his arm around my shoulder and kisses me on the cheek.

And on the long journey home, after being bereft for half the way, I watch my friend and the white dog walking in front of me and I smile. Because I know we’ll be back again this very afternoon with tins of bird seed and slices of orange, ribbons made from apple skins, popcorn and purple raisins rolled in peanut butter, our pockets heavy with handfuls of crimson cranberries. My perfect Christmas tree will not be in my house this year but forever in my heart.
