The World's Ugliest Christmas Sweater Includes a Working Toy Train Set

Try as you might this holiday season to find the ugliest Christmas sweater imaginable , you’re not going to be able to top YouTube’s bd594’s creation this year. It’s got an ugly argyle pattern, a tacky Christmas tree, blinking lights, and the pièce de résistance?: a working toy train circling the gaudy creation.

Man, the Government Sure Likes to Blame Shit on Tor

In a non-public report, the Department of Treasury revealed that an increasing number of hackers are using the Tor network to maintain their anonymity. Surprise surprise! After all,Tor is one of the biggest online anonymity services. So the government is suggesting (again ) that blocking Tor would keep hackers away, though. And while that might be true, it’s also shady.

Netflix And Twitter Team Up To Remind You About New Content

twitter marco polo 469x640
Online video streaming services are increasingly becoming popular not only because they allow users to stream content with relative ease using a variety of devices on different platforms, it’s also because they offer a vast library of content that includes and is in no way limited to movies, TV shows, documentaries and more. However it can get pretty hard to keep up with new additions to the streaming library. Netflix, which is one of the most popular online video streaming services, has teamed up with Twitter to solve this problem to some extent.

The “Tweet Me a Reminder” button was first spotted on Twitter by user @RichBTIG under a tweet for Marco Polo, a Netflix original series. Multiple users reported spotting this button on the iOS and Android Twitter apps.

From the looks of it, it appears that Netflix is using a custom Twitter card which also appears on the web once the tweet is expanded. Clicking on the Tweet Me a Reminder button will prompt you to tweet the message seen in the picture above.

Netflix confirmed to The Next Web that reminders will be sent out over Twitter as soon as all of the new episodes of Marco Polo are made available for streaming on Netflix. So far this button has only been spotted for this one original series from Netflix, and I for one wouldn’t certainly mind being able to use it for other content as well.

Samsung's virtual reality headset, Gear VR: what you need to know at launch

Samsung’s virtual reality headset, dubbed “Gear VR”, is available for purchase as of today. For those not following the last three years of virtual reality’s return from obscurity, today is a big day: Gear VR is the first virtual reality headset avai…

Samsung Gear VR Goes On Sale Today

gear vr innovator edition
The day virtual reality enthusiasts have been waiting for is finally here. Samsung’s VR headset, developed in collaboration with Oculus, is called the Gear VR and we first saw it back in September when it was announced at IFA 2014. The company has made us wait for a couple of months before selling the headset but the wait is now over. Starting today the Gear VR headset can be purchased for $199.

It merits mentioning here that the Gear VR is a lot different from headsets like the Oculus Rift. It doesn’t have a display of its own rather it depends upon a Galaxy Note 4. So $199 will basically get you a VR headset that requires a Galaxy Note 4 to function, which has to be purchased separately.

Those who are interested in picking one up can either head over to AT&T’s website or through Samsung’s U.S. website. The company had previously said that it would start selling the headset around December and it has stuck to that timeframe.

Even though anyone and everyone can purchase this headset, Samsung is billing it as the “Innovator Edition,” so its more like a mass beta test of sorts as opposed to a full-fledged consumer launch.

The company has not confirmed as yet if and when its virtual reality headset will be released in other markets around the globe.

Grooveshark Reportedly Launching Internet Radio Service Next Year

grooveshark logo 640x540
Digital music downloads have registered a major slump this past year as consumers have moved towards streaming services and internet radio in greater numbers. Owing to the popularity of the streaming model it is unsurprising to see new players trying to make it into this market. Grooveshark is reportedly going to dabble in this as well. A new report published today claims that the company is gearing up to launch an internet radio service in 2015.

According to The Wall Street Journal this internet radio service will be similar to Pandora, which happens to be one of the most popular internet radio services available now. This means that Grooveshark is going to play nice with labels and pay them royalties for every song played.

Since this will cost Grooveshark a handsome amount of money, they can’t offer this as a purely free service. Users will reportedly have to pay $0.99 per month for Grooveshark’s internet radio service which would then provide them with an ad-free listening experience.

It is also reported that Grooveshark will launch this service, called Broadcasts, as a separate platform. Apps for both iOS and Android devices will be released when the service goes live. Even though we have the 2015 timeframe for release, it hasn’t been confirmed as yet exactly when this new internet radio station will hit the airwaves.

LG G Pro Lineup Reportedly Bites The Dust

lg sign
Earlier this year in February LG launched two new devices in the G Pro lineup. A year back in February, two devices were added to the lineup as well. So one could be forgiven for expecting that perhaps LG might do the same this coming February, which is merely two months away. It doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen, if a new report is to be believed, the LG G Pro lineup is not going to receive any new handsets.

Reports out of South Korea suggest that LG has decided to axe this phablet family and instead devote its time and resources towards the next flagship, which will presumably be called the LG G4.

One of the reasons why LG may have taken this step is because the existing LG G3 handset, with its 5.5-inch display, is almost as large as the 5.9-inch LG G Pro 2. Customers who prefer display size alone are likely to go towards the G3 because of its superior specifications and features.

Is this why LG is giving up on the G Pro lineup, to avoid cannibalization at the hands of its flagship? For all we know there might be a different reason. It was rumored that the LG G Pro 3 would be powered by the company’s own NUCLUN chipset but we’ve been hearing that its faulty and has a lot of issues, so that may be why there won’t be any addition to the LG G Pro lineup in the coming year.

Who knows, LG hasn’t commented on this report as yet.

Qualcomm Downplays Snapdragon 810 Delay Rumors

snapdragon
Back in April this year Qualcomm unveiled its 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor. This chip is going to power a lot of flagship devices in the coming year so it definitely has an important part to play. Back then Qualcomm had said that this processor will be ready for release in the first half of 2015 but recently there have been rumors that certain issues might cause the Snapdragon 810 to be delayed. This would subsequently delay devices like LG G4 and Samsung Galaxy S6 which will rely upon this processor. Qualcomm has commented on the rumors and is downplaying whispers of potential delays.

The response to these rumors came from Qualcomm’s senior director of public relations, Jon Carvill, who said that “everything with Snapdragon 810 remains on track.”

While this paints a picture that shows everything to be absolutely fine, it is certainly intriguing that Qualcomm hasn’t narrowed down the launch window up till now, even though it has been nearly eight months since it said that commercial devices with Snapdragon 810 will be available in “1H 2015.”

Devices like the LG G4, Samsung Galaxy S6 and even HTC upcoming flagship device are all expected to tout this processor. Any delays are likely to push back release timeframes for these flagship devices, so not only will the OEMs be inconvenienced by delays, the consumers certainly wouldn’t like having to wait for the new flagships to arrive.

For now, Qualcomm makes it seem like it has everything under control. Fingers crossed, then.

Microsoft ‘Work & Play’ Bundle Receives Significant Discount

worknplay 640x308
Just last month Microsoft introduced its “Work & Play” bundle which offers access to a wide variety of the company’s services for just $199 per year. That’s a pretty good deal as it is because if you subscribe to services like Xbox Live Gold, Xbox Music Pass, Skype Unlimited World and Office 365 Home you’ll end up paying as much as $450 annually. If you’ve still not put money down for a bundle Microsoft is giving you a big reason to do so. It is offering a substantial discount on the bundle price.

The move comes when the holiday season is right around the corner. Microsoft has been pretty aggressive with its pricing strategies recently in order to push more products and services. For example, the recent Xbox One price cut worked wonders over Black Friday week, as data shows the company sold more than 720,000 Xbox One units during the Black Friday week alone.

At the discounted price the bundle remains the same. It will provide subscribers with full access to unlimited OneDrive storage, the full Office suite of productivity apps, Xbox Live, ad-free music streaming and unlimited Skype calls.

As previously mentioned this bundle originally costed $199. Now Microsoft is offering it for just $149 for the entire year. This price will be offered throughout the holiday season so you don’t have to rush to subscribe, but be sure to do so before the holiday season ends or you’ll end up having to pay $50 extra.

20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 Fetching Insane Money On eBay

ps4 20th1 640x533
As Sony celebrated the PlayStation’s 20th anniversary last week it revealed a limited edition version of its latest console, the PlayStation 4. The company basically gave this limited edition console a paint job that is similar to that of the first PlayStation console. Only 12,300 units of this 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 were ever produced and inventory sold out moments after it went up for sale in the U.S. Naturally, units ended up on eBay, and they’re fetching insane amounts of money.

The official price for 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 was just $499. Those who were lucky enough to purchase one from Sony at this price were really quite lucky, because the folks selling them on eBay are asking for a lot of money.

A simple search on eBay for this console reveals multiple listings with prices ranging between a few thousand dollars per unit. The highest prices I’ve seen are $17,000 and $20,000, for a console that costed only $499 originally, like I said, insane!

It goes without saying that there are enthusiasts out there with pretty deep pockets who wouldn’t think device before spending a few thousand dollars on this limited edition console. Those who are selling them on eBay are certainly going to walk away with a whole lot of money.
