Swedish police raid The Pirate Bay and knock the site offline

T-Mobile's new family plan gives everyone unlimited data

With the exception of Sprint, the big four US carriers tend to cap your data on family plans. T-Mobile’s current offering only gives one person unfettered internet access, and even Sprint’s $100 per month promo asks you to split a finite amount of da…

The Pirate Bay Taken Offline By Swedish Police Raids

the pirate bay most popular file sharing siteIf for whatever reason you are trying to access The Pirate Bay website’s today, you might have realized that you are unable to do so. This is because according to reports, the Swedish Police have recently raided the premises in which the website’s servers were being kept, which is the reason for the website going offline.

According to Paul Pintér, police national coordinator for IP enforcement, “There has been a crackdown on a server room in Greater Stockholm. This is in connection with violations of copyright law.” Fredrik Ingblad, an expert file-sharing case prosecutor added, “There were a number of police officers and digital forensics experts there. This took place during the morning and continued until this afternoon. Several servers and computers were seized, but I cannot say exactly how many.”

It has been estimated that the website went down around 2AM Pacific Time and while there have been reports that the site has relocated to new domains, it is unclear if these domains are the official websites or if they might simply be a scam for hackers taking advantage of the current situation.

Other torrent websites such as EZTV are also down at this time of writing, although we cannot be sure if this is merely a coincidence or if The Pirate Bay’s server raids might have something to do with it as well. In the meantime Peter Sunde, the co-founder and ex-spokesperson for The Pirate Bay, it seems that he isn’t too upset that the site has gone offline.

Posting on his blog, Sunder writes that he did not like what the website had become, which was filled with ads and with the new team supposedly not making any improvements to its technology. He also mentioned that the website was meant to have shut down on its 10th anniversary and he writes, “It feels good that it might have closed down forever, just a real shame the way it did that.”

T-Mobile Announces New Family Plans, Brings Back 4 For $100 Deal

Family 640x313T-Mobile is a carrier who has been making waves recently. While they might not be as big as AT&T or Verizon, the carrier has been making moves that has given bigger carriers something to think about, and if you’re in the market for a new line and are shopping around for a carrier, T-Mobile might have something for you.

The carrier has recently announced that they are introducing a new Unlimited 4G LTE Family Plan where it will only cost users $100 a month for two lines. The carrier has also drawn up a table in which it compares its price and offerings against the other carriers, and based on that it looks like T-Mobile’s plans certainly look more attractive, fine print notwithstanding.

According to the carrier, “Available tomorrow, the new Simple Choice family plan starts at just $100 per month for two people – and it goes all the way up to 10 people for just $40 more per line – when everyone on your plan wants unlimited blazing-fast data on America’s fastest nationwide 4G LTE network.”

In addition to this new plan, T-Mobile has also announced that they will be re-introducing one of their more popular plans, which is the 4 lines for $100 with 10GB of data. This means that if you have a family of four, you can split it into 2.5GB per family member, which we reckon should be enough. If this sounds like a plan you can get on board with, head on over to T-Mobile’s website for the details. In the meantime we have to wonder how the other carriers will be responding to this.

The COBI is an all-in-one Biking System to keep you safe

COBI

Being a cyclist, you have a metric ton of gadgets to put on your bike. You want to make sure you have lights on the front to see where you’re going, on the back so others can see you, a navigation system with a phone mount, and a bell to let pedestrians know if you’re coming up behind them. There are even more gadgets you can get to give your bike turning signals and extra visibility, but wouldn’t it be nice if you only needed to buy one setup to do everything?

The COBI is a connected biking system that will give you a front and back light, brake lights, turn signals, a charging smartphone dock, a thumb controller to let you make calls or change music tracks without touching your phone, and a built-in security system. It will even turn on as soon as you come within proximity. The corresponding app will act as your navigation system, give you real-time data about your ride, track your exercise, and can tell you what the forecast is looking like.

You get a custom bell, so you won’t have to worry about whether or not your spoken warning is loud enough to alert those in front of you. There are three power options which include the e-bike battery, battery pack, or through the Hub Dynamo. For a whopping $205, you can get the whole setup and styling options for when you want to play dress-up with your front light.

Available for crowdfunding on Kickstarter

iCloud.com Drops Google Maps In Favor Of Apple Maps

apple maps icloudA couple of years ago, Apple made the decision to remove Google Maps as the default maps app on iOS devices, instead opting to use Apple Maps instead. Safe to say that this was something of a disaster due to the numerous glitches and inaccuracies of Apple Maps at that time.

Thankfully Google Maps made a return as a standalone app. That being said, Apple also transitioned Find My iPhone to Apple Maps, and now according to reports, the same thing has been done with iCloud. Apple has been steadily making the transition over the years with Find My iPhone and Find My Friends, so it is unclear as to why iCloud was the last of Apple’s services to get the Apple Maps treatment.

The use of Apple Maps in iCloud has actually been around in the beta version of iCloud, but we guess that feature has finally been rolled out to the public. If anything this latest change pretty much removes most of Google’s presence from Apple’s native apps, services, and features. Is this a good thing?

Well if you have had no problems using Apple Maps then we guess the change shouldn’t really affect you. However if you’re not a fan of Apple Maps, you’re out of luck because you’ll just have to get used to it.

The Toolbox Fridge is more fun than work

Toolbox Fridge

Having your own space to tinker away on projects is important. It is your zone that helps you relieve stress, and of course, fix a few things from around the house. It’s easy to get caught up in what you’re doing and forget about food or drinks. If you don’t want to be bothered with leaving your work space, but also don’t want to keel over, then it might be wise to keep a fridge around.

Of course, the more often we can get extra functionality out of a product, the better. With that line of thought in mind, and if you’ve got some disposable income, then the Toolbox Fridge might be your new best toolbox. This is disguised as a 6-drawer toolbox, but is secretly only a 2-drawer with an 85W refrigerator built-in. It has 1 and ¾ cubic feet of storage in the fridge, and can keep drinks and snacks chilled between 32-50 degrees Fahrenheit. The extra drawers are nice and all, but that’s not really the main focus here if we’re honest.

It’s on wheels, which means it can move wherever you need it. Well, so long as it’s not over-extending the 5ft cord, otherwise you’ll have a fridge that isn’t doing its job. This is a rather hefty purchase at $499, and would be hard to hide from anyone who comes in your workspace, as there will surely be the normal whirring of a refrigerator coming from it.

Available for purchase on FrontGate
