Huawei Roadmap Confirms Upcoming Wearables At MWC

huawei roadmapEarly last year, Huawei unveiled a wearable of their own in the form of the TalkBand. It is an interesting device as it basically combined a Bluetooth headset with a fitness band, thus giving the wearer more than one way to use the device as they see fit. Now come MWC 2015, what can we expect from Huawei in the wearables department?

The good news is that if you’re looking forward to new wearables from Huawei, the company recently showed off their brand strategy for 2015 and according to their slide (which you can see above), one of Huawei’s announcements at MWC 2015 will be a new wearable product. Huawei was also pretty specific about what device it would be as they explicitly stated on the slide that it would be an Android Wear smartwatch.

From what we can tell, it looks like a smartwatch with a round face, but could it be more than that? Huawei’s CMO of devices Shao Yang was quoted as saying, “Different is very important. We are not trying to bring something similar,” when asked about the company’s wearable strategy.

The device is also expected to debut alongside Huawei’s new fitness platform, but beyond that there were no additional details revealed during the presentation, but we guess with MWC only a month away from happening, we won’t have to wait too long to find out what exactly Huawei has up their sleeves.

Nintendo Creators Program Beta Launched

smash brosMaking videos of your favorite games and sharing them on platforms like YouTube is a good way to help educate players about the game, or maybe even entice them to try the game for themselves. The good news is that if you’re an avid YouTuber and want to potentially try and make some extra cash on the side, Nintendo has recently launched the beta version of a new affiliate program.

This new affiliate program has been designed to share the advertising revenue made on YouTube with the creators of the video as well as Nintendo. Given that the videos you create will contain copyrighted material owned by Nintendo, we guess Nintendo thinks its fair that they get some of the money. Thankfully the split will be 60% to the creator, and 40% to Nintendo.

However if your channel is purely dedicated to Nintendo and its IPs, Nintendo will be willing to go as high as a 70-30 split instead. Payments will be made every two months after monthly viewing stats are counter and the money will be transferred to gamers via PayPal. Nintendo had previously asserted that since their IP exists in the videos, they felt that they were entitled to some of the ad revenue.

We can only imagine that some video creators might not be too pleased with the split, but we guess it’s better than having to constantly fight with Nintendo who might get YouTube to take some of your videos down due to copyright infringement. The Nintendo Creators Program will officially launch on the 27th of May.

New Windows 10 Lumia Phones Expected At MWC 2015, But No Flagship [Rumor]

microsoft logoWith Nokia’s cellphone division at their disposal, we have to admit that we are curious as to what kind of high-end smartphone Microsoft could potentially launch. So far we’ve seen the company launch low-mid range handsets which aren’t particularly impressive, although we reckon it should help them capture the emerging market.

Unfortunately if flagship Windows Phone handsets are what you’re still after, MWC 2015 could be a fairly disappointing experience for you. According to new rumors, Microsoft will be launching at least two new Lumia handsets at the event, however there will not be any announcement for flagship handsets.

Interestingly enough the rumor claims that these two Lumia handsets are expected to run on Microsoft’s new Windows 10 platform which has us a little skeptical especially since Microsoft has yet to publicly release their latest operating system, but perhaps these devices might offer a preview of what’s to come.

Microsoft has promised that we will eventually see flagship Windows Phone handsets, but we guess it won’t be anytime soon. In the meantime other OEMs such as Acer have confirmed that they themselves will be launching Windows Phone handsets at MWC 2015, so be sure to check back with us then to see what they have to offer.

HoloLens’ True Potential Still Years From Being Realized, According To Bill Gates

Just last week Microsoft announced the HoloLens hologram technology headset. The headset, for those who missed the announcement, is unlike other headsets like the Oculus Rift or Sony’s Project Morpheus. The HoloLens offers hologram technology and takes advantage of augmented reality to allow its wearer to interact with it and the real world at the same time.

One of the examples of how the headset could be used is in a game of Minecraft where the player sees the entire map laid out in front of them that they can interact with, but what else could the HoloLens be used for? Well according to Bill Gates during his recent Reddit AMA, it seems that we could be years away from seeing the true potential of the technology.

This means if you’re amazed by what you see now, hopefully in the next few years you will have your mind blown. According to Gates, “The HoLolens is pretty amazing. Microsoft has put a lot into the chips and the software. It is the start of virtual reality. Making the device so you don’t get dizzy or nauseous is really hard–the speed of the alignment has to be super super fast. It will take a few years of software applications being built to realize the full promise of this.”

It is definitely an exciting and interesting piece of technology, and we’re sure that just like us, you guys are excited to see what the future holds for it. In the meantime what other ways do you think the HoloLens could be used for?

Disappearance Of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 Declared An 'Accident'

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 (Reuters) – Malaysia has declared the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 an “accident,” its Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) said on Thursday.

The Boeing 777 aircraft disappeared on March 8 last year, carrying 239 passengers and crew shortly after taking off from the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur, bound for Beijing.

Months of searches have failed to turn up any trace.

“We officially declare Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 an accident … and that all 239 of the passengers and crew onboard MH370 are presumed to have lost their lives,” DCA director-general Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said in a statement.

The announcement is in accordance with standards of annexes 12 and 13 in the International Civil Aviation, said Azharuddin. It will allow families of the passengers to obtain assistance through compensation, he said.

Malaysia Airlines was ready to proceed immediately with the compensation process to the next-of-kin of the passengers on the flight, he said.

International investigators are looking into why the Boeing jet veered thousands of miles off course from its scheduled route before eventually plunging into the Indian Ocean.

Malaysia is also conducting a criminal investigation.

“Both investigations are limited by the lack of physical evidence at this time, particularly the flight recorders,” said Azharuddin.

“Therefore, at this juncture, there is no evidence to substantiate any speculations as to the cause of the accident.”

The DCA plans to release an interim report on the investigation into the missing jetliner on March 7, a day before the first anniversary of the disappearance, a minister said on Wednesday.

“This declaration is by no means the end,” said Azharuddin, adding that it will continue with the search for the missing plane with assistance from China and Australia.
