Moment Case For The iPhone 6 Takes Mobile Photography To The Next Level

The iPhone’s default camera is pretty good and with every new iPhone released by Apple, the cameras are improved upon as well. However if you’d like a bit more flexibility or advanced features, then perhaps the Moment Case might be something you could be interested in. Moment is company that has designed camera lenses for the iPhone in the past, but they’re back with a new Moment Case that will help mount their brand of lenses and give you a more comfortable grip at the same time.

The case, like we said, will help iPhone users mount Moment’s lenses. However it also comes with its own shutter button and before you think that it’s just a button that depresses the volume rocker, think again. The shutter works like a regular camera shutter release and even comes with full and half-press features, where a half-press would allow you to lock the focus and exposure, and a full press to actually snap the photo.

The Moment Case will pair with your iPhone via Bluetooth and its shutter is operated by its own coin cell battery, meaning that it should be able to last you quite a while. The case itself is also able to recognize the different types of Moment lenses that you choose to attach to it, and will be able to unlock advanced software features depending on the type of lens you have attached to the case.

For those who want to take their mobile photography seriously, then perhaps the Moment Case and lenses could be worth checking out, so if you’d like to help fund their project, head on over to their Kickstarter page for the details, or check out the video above to learn more about it.

Apple Overtakes Xiaomi As Leading Smartphone Manufacturer In China

apple-store-chinaChinese company Xiaomi has big dreams. Last we heard, they were aiming to overtake both Apple and Samsung to be the world’s biggest smartphone manufacturer, and while the company has seen a fair bit of success, it looks like their dreams could be put on hold for now as Apple has actually managed to overtake Xiaomi in their home country of China.

According to research firm Canalys, they have released a report which has suggested that Apple has actually overtaken Xiaomi in China as a smartphone manufacturer. Previously Xiaomi had been leading the way in their own country, but the latest report puts Apple in first place, followed by Xiaomi, Samsung, and Huawei.

This is despite the fact that Apple’s phones tend to cost several times more than what Xiaomi charges for theirs. However it should be noted that Apple’s position is based on the number of units shipped, and as we all know shipped versus sold numbers can be quite different. That being said, Apple’s latest earnings has revealed that they managed to sell a whopping 74.5 million iPhones in Q1 2015.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Apple dominating in another country. Earlier we reported that Apple managed to secure a 33% market share in South Korea, a first for a foreign company which we can only imagine is making Samsung a little uncomfortable.

Tim Cook Confirms iPhone 6 More Popular Than The iPhone 6 Plus

iPhone-6-review-8Just yesterday Apple announced during their earnings call that they had managed to sell a whopping 74.5 million iPhone units in Q1 2015. Now we’re sure many of you guys are wondering how are the sales split between the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and some of Apple’s older models like the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.

Unfortunately Apple did not provide us with a breakdown of those numbers, but according to Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, it seems that for the most part the iPhone 6 proved to be the most popular device. According to Cook, “Obviously to sell 74.5 million devices, they were all popular. Both did incredibly well. We’re really proud of them, along with the iPhone 5s and 5c.”

This is actually pretty interesting as it lines up with initial sales of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus where the former was in the lead. It was presumed that this was because of the latter’s general unavailability and long waits that could have prompted customers to go for the iPhone 6 instead, but given that it has been several months now, we guess the 4.7-inch form factor is preferred, plus it is cheaper too.

Cook also mentioned that there were some geographical preferences too in which some regions preferred the smaller iPhone 6, while others leaned towards the larger iPhone 6 Plus. While he did not mention any particular markets, it has been found that the iPhone 6 Plus is slightly more favored in Asian countries.

Acer To Debut New Windows Phone Hardware At MWC

acer-windows-phoneWhen you think of Windows Phone handsets, Nokia probably comes to mind, but given that Nokia’s cellphone division is owned by Microsoft, we guess you will probably think of Microsoft in the future. This isn’t to say that there aren’t other Windows Phone OEMs, it’s just that Nokia/Microsoft have been the most aggressive.

That being said if you’re looking for more variety in the Windows Phone department, it seems that we can look forward to Acer making some Windows Phone announcements at MWC 2015. This is according to a report from DigiTimes in which Acer’s CEO Jason Chen confirmed that the company had plans to announce new Windows Phone hardware at MWC which kicks off in March.

Unfortunately if you were hoping to see a high-end Acer handset at MWC, you might be disappointed as Chen confirmed that there will not be any high-end devices from the company as their focus remains on the entry-level segment. Given that Windows Phone’s market share pales to iOS and Android, creating entry-level handsets probably means less risk and investment on Acer’s part.

Chen also mentioned that the company at one point in time was approached by a high-end smartphone vendor for a possible takeover of Acer’s mobile business, but apparently they declined although he does not rule out the possibility of a merger in the future.

G2A Responds To Deleted Far Cry 4 Copies, Will Look Into Compensation

far cry 4A couple of days ago we reported that Ubisoft had deleted digital copies of Far Cry 4 from Uplay accounts who might have bought the game from third-party resellers such as G2Play and G2A. Unfortunately as far as Ubisoft is concerned, these purchases weren’t legitimate and it seemed that apart from advising their gamers to speak to the resellers, they weren’t going to do anything on their end.

Now the good news is that one of the resellers has since responded. G2A has recently released a statement (via VG247) on their Facebook page which reads, “As some of you may already know, steps have been taken to remove games purchased indirectly from a publisher, via main marketplaces in the web. G2A.COM is not in any case responsible for any of these procedures.”

They also add that they will be looking at possible compensation to their customers who were affected by this. “However, we are well aware of this process and will do everything possible to compensate for that. For users who have made transactions without G2A Shield, we will check if the corresponding merchant was responsible for the withdrawal of the code. If so, these users will get a compensation. Any user who used G2A Shield affected by the current process will get either a new code for the game or the money back.”

For those unfamiliar, G2A Shield is basically a guarantee of sorts offered by the company. For an extra fee, users can protect themselves from invalid CD keys bought from a marketplace reseller. G2A also stated that they will be looking into this issue to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

U.S. Signs $2 Billion Loan Agreement With Ukraine, Offers To Increase Pressure On Russia

KIEV, Jan 28 (Reuters) – The United States on Wednesday signed an agreement providing war-torn Ukraine with $2 billion in loan guarantees to help it with “near-term social spending” in 2015 and said it was prepared to step up sanctions against Russia if necessary.

After signing the loan agreement with Ukrainian Finance Minister Natalia Yaresko, U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew referred to Russian support for separatists in Ukraine which has led to the United States and the European Union imposing sanctions on Russia.

Saying the United States was opposing “Russian aggression,” Lew went on: “We remain prepared to do more (on sanctions) if necessary. To that end, we will continue to work with our allies to increase the pressure on Russia.” (Reporting by Alessandra Prentice; Writing By Richard Balmforth; Editing by Hugh Lawson)
