I am defiantly not an Apple Store kinda person. I’ve yet to queue up for the latest iPhone, certainly don’t aimlessly browse around during my lunch hour, and buy all my cases off Amazon. But Apple’s latest chunk of Cupertino on foreign soil would make me change all that.
Email scams are something that every single computer users, especially those who are new to the Internet, ought to be aware of. I am quite surprised to realize that while we give proper training and classes to those who drive, when it comes to the online, you would most probably have to teach yourself, and sometimes, learning a lesson can be particularly expensive. An FBI task force has shared that there is an email scam going around which preys on businesses with bogus invoices has managed to pick up over $214 million from victims across 45 countries – and this slick operation has been in force for slightly more than a year.
The Internet Crime Complaint Center, which a joint effort of the FBI and the nonprofit National White Collar Crime Center, claims that the losses were calculated from October 1, 2013 to December 1, 2014. This scheme’s modus operandi is like this – fake invoices will be delivered to businesses which deal with overseas suppliers, where payment is asked for via wire transfer. The task force mentioned, “The fraudulent wire transfer payments sent to foreign banks may be transferred several times but are quickly dispersed. Asian banks, located in China and Hong Kong, are the most commonly reported ending destination for these fraudulent transfers.”
So far, there has been 1,198 US victims and 928 in other countries, where US firms have lost over $179 million out of the lot.

Super Mario World Glitch Beats Game

When developers work on a game, you can be sure that they do their utmost best in order to make sure that there are no glitches in the game itself when it is released. However, since one, or even a group of brains are unable to figure out everything right from the get go, all the way to the end of the game itself, you can be sure it would be the avid and hardcore gamers themselves who would be able to sniff out an exploit or loophole. Well, YouTube user Minecraft SethBling has done just that, as you can see in the 9-minute video above – by performing a range of draconian actions in Super Mario World in order to summon forth a glitch, while beating the classic platform game from Nintendo in the process.
The YouTube video claims that those actions enabled him to “set up the console’s memory in just the right way, then perform a glitch which will cause the credits to play without defeating Bowser.”
Seems to be a decent way just to get all the way to the credits, perhaps it is not so much as beating the game, but rather, just to skip the game itself and head over to the credits. Who would want to see the credits anyway, apart from the occasional Easter Eggs in there?

Project Spartan On Phone Spotted
Posted in: Today's ChiliSo, now that all of the dust behind the fanfare that is Windows 10 has settled, what do you think of it? So far, initial impressions have been nothing but full of praise and bouquets, as this potentially unifying operating system does seem to make life a whole lot more convenient, especially when one has to contend with so many different platforms these days. Having said that, we were not treated to what Project Spartan, the browser that will see off Internet Explorer after all these years, would look like when it runs on a smartphone – not at least until now, as you will be able to see for yourself on the right.
The new browser, as expected, would feature a clean, flat user interface, which does seem to be able to support dark as well as light themes. Hopefully when our fingers get to dance around with Project Spartan’s settings, this means we will be play around with either theme without missing a beat. Developed to be a single browser for all Windows 10 devices, ranging from PCs (it does not matter whether those machines will have touch capability or not) to tablets and smartphones, we simply cannot wait for Project Spartan to, you know, know out whatever competitors there are in the market right now. Acer might have introduced two new Chromebooks that target the educational segment, but this does not mean that they are alone in such an endeavor. Computer manufacturer HP too, knows that this could be a potentially lucrative market, which is why they have squarely revealed another two models of notebooks in the 11” mould which too, will target the education market. These two notebooks would be the HP ProBook 11 Education Edition and the HP Stream 11 Pro, where the former would be a durable Windows notebook complete with a rubber case, while the latter happens to be an affordable notebook that is meant to see action in the classroom.
Apart from that, HP has also announced plans to roll out Education Edition versions of its spanking new 10” Android and Windows tablets, now how about that for a complete package, giving a little bit of something for everyone? The HP ProBook 11 will arrive with the option to throw in a touchscreen display – with additional dough, of course, as well as support for processors up to an Intel Core series chip.
As for the HP Stream 11 Pro, this will be an education-oriented version of HP’s $199 notebook which rolled out late last year. It will feature an 11.6” display at 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, 2GB RAM, 32GB of internal memory, and an Intel Celeron 2840 Bay Trail processor. [Press Release]

Wacom’s bread and butter would be their artist tablets, and we have seen them deliver improvement and advancements in such technology for desktop artists over the years. In fact, it was just at the recently concluded CES 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada, that the folks over at Wacom did show off their Cintiq Companion 2 – which is a long time in coming, actually, especially when you take into consideration that the Cintiq Companion from Wacom was announced back in 2013. A near 2-year hiatus is almost anathema in the world of consumer electronics. Well, back to the matter at hand – the Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 has now arrived at the FCC.
This new tablet would promise the delivery of advanced technology for the optimum pen-on-screen experience, and based on the new FCC filing, it does look as though the Cintiq Companion 2 is being primed for shipping not too long down the road.
In the FCC filing, it points to the description of the device to be an “LCD Tablet” with the model number DTH-1300. This would definitely be the clearest suggestion just yet that it could be the upcoming Cintiq Companion 2 without a doubt. One can use the Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 as either a Cintiq graphics tablet or a full Windows 8.1 tablet, and the accompanying Pro Pen can function as a brush, pen, or marker when merged with a range of creative software programs, sporting 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt recognition.

Intel does not only deal with microprocessors, you know – although that is the company’s bread and butter, but they do churn out hardware of their own as well. We have seen the Intel Compute Stick announced in the midst of the fanfare that was going on at CES 2015 earlier this month, and here we are with something else that might interest you – the Intel Education Content Access Point. No prizes for guessing as to which particular industry would be the one that is being targeted by Intel this time around.
The big question that would be asked is this, “Just what is the Intel Education Content Access Point all about?” This spanking new product was specially designed in order for it to deliver wireless content to teachers as well as students in the classrooms, and it will also work in other parts of the world where the presence of internet access or electricity is as reliable as seeing rain fall in the desert. What looks like a simple Wi-Fi router, it does more than just that.
Whenever it is connected to an internet signal via an Ethernet connection or a cellular network (should one decide to pick up an optional cellular modem), then it would function like any other Wi-Fi router. Internally lies a battery which would allow the Access Point to function for another 5 hours sans electricity.
Inside lies an Intel Atom E3815 processor, 8GB of eMMC storage and an optional 500GB hard drive, Ubuntu 12.04 software, and a USB port, allowing digital content to be saved within, with up to 50 students connected to it simultaneously. Other hardware features include 2GB RAM, 802.11a/b/gn/ac WiFi, optional support for 3G and 4G LTE, a USB 3.0 port and a 4050mAh battery. [Press Release]

So, you love to indulge yourself in a little water sports from time to time? A jet ski might sound like fun, but here is a little something that might just awake the little child in you one more time. This water vessel would resemble that of a shark or a killer whale, depending on the livery that you decide to fall back upon on, and it is known as the the Seabreacher.
One thing is for sure – the Seabreacher is going to get your adrenaline pumping, and it also has the ability to turn the color of other people’s eye to green when they see you on one. What makes the Seabreacher unique is its ability to dive underwater, hence its name. Being able to dive up to five feet below the surface for a certain period of time, you then breach the surface – like a whale. Of course, it would be best to just enter a couple of feet underneath so that the snorkel would be able to function as intended. There is also an optional detachable snorkel that allows one to add another three to four feet to the Seabreacher’s dive.
Being positively buoyant, the Seabreacher requires speed to dive, and it will take some skill and getting used to in order to handle the Seabreacher properly, but when you have mastered its controlling nuances, boy are you guaranteed to have a blast of a time! It would cost anywhere from $80,000 upward, making this a toy for the rich and famous.

It is without a doubt that the world of wearable technology is moving forward in the right direction, where there are many different kinds of devices which have been rolling out in this matter, such as smart glasses as well as smart watches. Having said that, fitness and activity tracker bands, too, have increased in popularity, and the Xiaomi Mi Band was one of them. It looks as though there is an upcoming successor to the Xiaomi Mi Band, according to Hugo Barra’s Weibo account over in China.
The Vice President of Xiaomi has posted that the team behind the original Mi Band has a major announcement right ahead of the Chinese Spring Festival, which will be happening later in February this year. It would not be too much of a surprise to hear that there is a second generation wearable arriving in due time later this year, especially when you consider that an annual refresh of hardware should be expected in this day and age if a company were to stay competitive.
Hopefully the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Band 2 (or whatever it will be called) will retain its predecessor’s features – such as a long battery life as well as features that are a no-brainer to use. I suppose it is but a matter of time before all will be revealed, so patience is key here.
