The New Jamstik+ Is A Musician’s Best Friend

JamStik As a wannabe guitarist, I find that the hardest thing to do is sit down and actually play guitar. When I first saw the Jamstik, a six-fret mini electronic guitar, I was impressed. It was about as big as a sub bun and featured strings that never had to be tuned. To play it you simply chorded and strummed as usual and you could transmit your MIDI-translated noodlings to a mobile app or your desktop. Read More

This Destructive 3D Printer Is the Closest We've Come to Teleportation

Many equate the 3D printer as being the earliest form of a real-life teleporter—or transporter, if you prefer to get your science from Star Trek. The only problem is that you’re not actually moving an object from point A to point B, you’re just creating a duplicate somewhere else. So “Scotty” might actually be the next step in developing a working transporter, since it goes the extra mile to destroy the original object.

The Eerie Ruins of 11 Abandoned Hotels

Tourism is a funny thing. Sometimes hot spots are hot, prompting opportunistic developers to build. And sometimes they’re not. (The outbreak of a civil war is a great way to shut down a tourist destination.) Photographer Dietmar Eckell has spent the past several years visiting the hotels and resorts that got left behind.

Rotating Ring On Samsung’s New Smartwatch Might Have These Features

samsung logo 4

We have recently heard many rumors about Samsung working on a new smartwatch that has a round design, apparently this device has the codename “Orbis.” Not much is known about the Orbis at this time but as per several reports the smartwatch is going to have a rotating bezel ring and a digital crown. What does that rotating ring do? We get some insights through a new report.

According to Sammobile the ring will be used for homescreen management. Users will be able to scroll through the recent apps menu one by one using the ring. Rotating it faster will show three apps simultaneously. To close this menu users will have to press the crown.

Control over incoming phone call is also expected to be offered by this ring. Rotating it to the right will reject the phone call while rotating it to the left will not only reject the call but send a preset message to the caller. To end calls currently in progress users will push the crown once.

The ring will also offer control over the music player it seems. Rotating it will allow users to skip or back a track. It may also be used to jump through different clocks by simply rotating, dismissing the alarm through a similar action and even for checking up on current weather, hourly and weekly forecast all with simple rotations.

The scribe trusts information that its source has provided but it goes without saying that in the absence of an official confirmation from Samsung one must take this with a grain of salt. Samsung hasn’t said as yet if and when it will launch a round smartwatch.

Not All Lumia Smartphones Will Get Windows 10 Or Support All Features

nokia-lumia-1520-review-8

At its event yesterday Microsoft finally showed off Windows 10. The company also revealed how the new software looks like on Lumia handsets. It has promised to release a preview at some point next month so that Windows Phone smartphone owners can take it for a spin themselves. In an update on the official blog today Microsoft has clarified that yesterday’s announcement doesn’t mean that all Lumia devices will receive the Windows 10 update, and that those who do get it, might not support all of the features that have been unveiled.

The clarification comes from Chris Weber, corporate vice president of sales for Microsoft Mobile Devices, on the official Lumia conversations blog. Weber says that Microsoft’s goal is for “majority of the Lumia phones running Windows Phone 8 and 8.1″ to jump on the new bandwagon.

He does point out that not every phone will upgrade or support all possible Windows 10 features. Some new features and experiences that Microsoft has built into Windows 10 will require advanced hardware so Lumia users should keep that in mind if they’re thinking of picking up a new device.

This isn’t something out of the blue. It is common for software companies to drop support for older devices. Some of the very first Windows Phone 8 devices are over two years old now and they can’t possibly support all of the new features, or have the hardware compatibility needed to offer the right user experience with the new software.

Purported HTC One M9 Plus Image And Specs Leaked

htc-one-m9-plus

The rumor mill is not yet done with HTC’s upcoming flagship smartphone, HTC One M9 or “Hima,” and today we’re seeing what is claimed to be the HTC One M9 Plus. From the looks of it this is going to be a One M9 variant that has a larger display and a few tweaks. A purported picture of this smartphone has been leaked online today along with some specifications.

As per the @leaksfly account on Twitter the HTC One M9 Plus is going to have a 5.5-inch Quad HD display, it will be powered with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor and will have 3GB of RAM along with a fingerprint scanner and dual rear camera.

Since this is a relatively new source that hasn’t established much of a track record one can’t rely too easily upon the information provided. True that HTC has launched enlarged versions of its flagship smartphone in the past so it wouldn’t surprise anyone if the company did it again this time around.

Another possibility which exists is that what we see here might be a prototype of the HTC One M9. Perhaps this was one version of the device that the company tested at one point before setting for another version.

Previous HTC phablets haven’t had the BoomSound stereo speakers usually found on the front at the top and bottom of the flagship smartphones, but we see that in this picture, and something doesn’t quite feel right.
