“The Saga of the Skydiving Beavers” sounds like the title for a quirky children’s book, but it’s also a fitting epitaph for a strange, true story of an unconventional approach to habitat resettlement. In 1948, Idaho’s Fish and Game service decided the best way to keep beavers away from growing urban centers was to strap them into old surplus World War II parachutes and airdrop them in the backcountry. The weirdest part of this story? It worked.
Early last year a Kickstarter project for a product called Strawbees that turned ordinary drinking straws into a giant building toy rocketed past its modest funding goal. And in the same way that Mindstorms brings ordinary Lego to life, the Quirkbot wants to bring those Strawbees to life, letting kids build robots and other animated toys using a few additional electronic components—and of course those plastic drinking straws.
External battery packs are fine and dandy, but nothing beats a battery case for convenience and portability on long days where your phone might need a little bit of extra juice. Typically, they’ll set you back $60 or more, but this one is only $30 today with code BH9VVFFN.

Project Cars is an upcoming racing sim that has been developed by UK-based Slightly Mad Studios. The team behind it raised money of this project through their own crowdfunding platform and were able to get $5 million in funding. It was announced last year that Bandai Namco has picked up Project Cars for full distribution. Bandai Namco has now released the latest Project Cars trailer which highlights the graphical fidelity of this title.
This is the same studio that was behind Need for Speed: Shift 1 and Shift 2: Unleashed, it goes without saying that they have the skills required to making a racing game, the game’s creative director Andy Tudor has said that Project Cars is the “culmination of all our experience and skills as a team.”
In the new trailer the game’s weather effects are highlighted apart from the wide variety of vehicles that players will be able to take for a spin. Bandai Namco claims this title has the largest number of tracks available when compared to any recent game of this kind, extensive tuning and pit strategy tools as well as “freeform career mode” which lets players choose their own path.
This “most technically-advanced, beautiful, intense and authentic racing game” is destined for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC come March 20th.

Sony announced back in March 2014 that it is going to create original TV shows for PlayStation. The first show is called Powers and in October last year Sony released the very first trailer for this show. Back then the company didn’t say when the new show is going to premiere but today it has come out with that information.
The PlayStation Powers original series is produced by Sony Pictures Television. Its a studio that’s behind colossal hits like Breaking Bad so the folks do know what they’re doing. Power’s story is based on Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim who are two homicide detectives that deal with cases “that just so happen to involve people with extraordinary powers.”
In an update on the official PlayStation Blog today Michael Bendis, the executive producer of the show, confirmed that production has been wrapped on all ten episodes of Powers. Bendis also revealed the premiere date. The first three episodes of Powers will be released on March 10th after which a new episode will be released every Tuesday.
Everybody will be able to watch the first episode for free at PlayStation.com/Powers. All PlayStation Plus members will get access to the entire season for free, evidently this adds more value to PS Plus subscriptions, so mark March 10th in your calendars if you’ve been curious to see what the first original series for PlayStation looks like.

It seems that another leak has happened – and this time around, it would involve a plain text file (of all things!) that carries over 1,800 Minecraft usernames as well as passwords. Having been leaked online, it remains at this point in time unknown just how the details were obtained in the first place. The bigger question would also be, is this particular leak a portent of what is to come, especially in the realm of Minecraft? Basically, details in the leak would enable just about anyone to log into a legitimate user’s account, not to mention download and install the full version of the game.
Another thing that one ought to be worried about would be the fact that this particular hack would have exposed those who were affected by it to additional malicious attacks, assuming one would have made use of a similar password on other services, like their online banking account or email for instance.
Security researcher Graham Cluley mentioned, “Quite how criminals managed to steal the credentials for so many Minecraft users isn’t clear. Possibilities range from simple phishing attacks, keylogging malware stealing players’ details as they log into the game, or even a security breach at Minecraft itself.”
Leaks and hacks are perils of the modern day digital world, and it does not look as though due diligence should be forgotten anytime soon.

Switzerland has an iconic watchmaking industry which has been around for over a century. The world has never seen the kind of innovation in mechanical watches that has come out of this country, whose manufacturers proudly stamp their timepieces with the Swiss Made label, but times are changing and these companies have to adapt. Tag Heuer is certainly doing so. It has already confirmed that a smartwatch is under development and for that the company has to work with partners based in Silicon Valley, making it Tag Heuer’s first timepiece to be developed outside Switzerland.
Swiss Made is more than just a label. Its good marketing. One look and the customer knows the timepiece can be trusted for its quality and longevity. Switzerland may be in a class of its own when it comes to mechanical timepieces and their components but the companies based there don’t have much experience with putting together components and software for smartwatches all on their own.
This is why companies like Tag Heuer are having to seek outside help. Talking to Bloomberg Jean-Claude Biver, head of the watch division at luxury goods giant LVMH, said “we can’t produce the engine, the chips, the applications, the hardware — nobody can produce it in Switzerland.”
So the hardware and software will come from Silicon Valley for the Tag Heuer smartwatch, while the company is going to incorporate Swiss components where they fit best, the dial, watch case, crown. Even the idea and the design will be Swiss, says Biver.
Tag Heuer’s smartwatch will have the usual features like GPS, health and fitness tracking but the company is going to offer applications exclusive to its brand, Biver has hinted at tie-ups with various sports that the brand sponsors.

There are times when you would like to have the power of a notebook, and at other times, would just want the computing capabilities of a tablet. Well, certain hybrid devices in the market do offer such a selection, but for the models that require the display to be folded back 180 degrees, those do not happen to be the ideal tablet weight. A detachable display would work far better in this case, and HP thinks so too, hence revealing the HP Elite x2 1011 G1.
Needless to say, the HP Elite x2 1011 G1 is both a tablet and an Ultrabook, being the sole device that you need to bring around with you wherever your work takes you. Running on an Inte Core M processor, the HP Elite x2 1011 G1 will be accompanied by 8GB RAM, tops, and you can also have up to 512GB SSD installed on it, although 128GB would be the default capacity in which it comes in before you throw some money to add more bells and whistles.
The display will be an 11.6″ HD screen with touchscreen capability, and your ears will be treated to DTS Studio Sound. As for connectivity fret not – it will feature LTE support, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi. Need to tote around more data without lugging a hard drive around? This is where the microSD memory card slot comes in handy, while the micro SIM slot on the tablet allows you to remain connected even when there is no WiFi network around.
