Privacy concerns are at an all time high, and for good reason: joining the Snowden revelations have been a steady stream of security breaches among different companies, many of which have left users’ sensitive data vulnerable or completely exposed. It’s no surprise, then, that users didn’t take kindly to discovering LinkedIn’s security measures weren’t as robust as they’d been led … Continue reading

OTTO is an industry leader when it comes to two-way radio accessories, and alongside SureFire, a leader where hearing-protection technology is concerned, have worked together to roll out the spanking new Hurricane III headset that will feature SureFire’s Patented EarLock Retention Rings and Noise-Reducing Filters. There is a switch on each earpiece that would allow the user to control the amount of ambient sound which passes into the ear.
When in the open position, the Noise-Reducing Filters would enable ambient sounds and conversations to be heard clearly. Should one be in the presence of an extremely high noise environment, all that one needs to do is to place the switch in the closed position in order to increase the noise blocking effectiveness.
The Hurricane III headset itself would be able to deliver up to 40dB of protection against loud noises, where among them include the likes of gunshots as well as other impulse noises, all the while preserving situational awareness. There is a switch in the closed position the headset that will do further work to reduce ambient background noise by another 21dB. The headset itself will also boast of a noise-canceling microphone and a low-profile design which can be worn while wearing a helmet or mask. The durable design in addition to its tough construction would let the headset withstand harsh environmental conditions.
The Hurricane III is well positioned to balance excellent noise reduction with the ability to hear ambient sounds or conversations, and at the same time maintain clear radio communication. It comes across highly recommended for shooting ranges, public safety applications, and any environments where loud noises are present and hearing normal conversation is important. Any takers for this particular Hurricane III headset from OTTO? It certainly looks as though it will be able to do its bit to help you save your eardrums in the long run.

There are certain websites out there that are laced with malware. Sometimes it is unintentional due to bad plugins, and sometimes it is intentional as the website was designed to mislead the user from the get-go. Thankfully browsers like Chrome have warnings in place that inform users of potential dangers before letting them proceed if that’s what they choose.
However Google has decided to take things to the next level by warning the user of potential malware even before the domain itself is displayed, which is basically an earlier step than previously where the warning would load after the domain has been entered into the address bar. The new warning is displayed as shown in the screenshot above.
Hopefully this new warning system will be able to help reduce the amount of malware accidentally downloaded and installed onto computers, especially from websites that are laced with malware that have the ability to change your default search settings or maybe even change your browser’s home page to one of their own, or maybe even trick you into download a piece of malware.
Google has also made some other changes, like in search results where according to Google, “Google Search now incorporates signals that identify such deceptive sites. This change reduces the chances you’ll visit these sites via our search results.” The latest build of Chrome can be downloaded via Google’s website.

Samsung has long provided hardware components to competing companies for their smartphones, such as Apple, where Samsung has previously supplied the company with display panels, memory, and even chipsets. Now despite Samsung and Apple being bitter rivals, and Samsung and LG embroiled in a lawsuit, it seems that business is still business at the end of the day.
According to reports out of Korea, word has it that Samsung could have netted themselves a rather lucrative deal with both Apple and LG where Samsung will be providing both companies with LP-DDR4 RAM chips for the next-gen iPhone and the rumored LG G4. The report claims that the deal with LG is particularly lucrative as it will see Samsung supply 100% of the LG G4’s RAM.
The deal with Apple will be less at 50%, which we have to say is still a pretty significant amount. The rumors also claim that Apple could increase that amount depending on the situation as Samsung apparently has no problems meeting their demands. It does seem a bit odd that LG and Apple would place so many of their eggs into one basket, but it seems that Samsung’s 20nm technology is currently leading the way.
This is compared to SK Hynix, another RAM manufacturer, who still relies on the 25nm process which would give Samsung the edge. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but if the rumors are true, hopefully Apple and LG’s decision to rely heavily on Samsung will not affect production/release of their future handsets.

As it stands there are several companies involved in virtual reality, and it looks like at GDC 2015 which kicks off on the 4th of March, we could soon add Valve to that list. The company has recently confirmed that they will be using the event to launch what they are calling a “previously-unannounced SteamVR hardware system”.
Unfortunately not much is known about Valve’s Steam VR platform at the moment and what it entails, but it is safe to say that companies dabbling in virtual reality can look forward to competition. Valve also announced that they will be showing off the finalized design of the Steam Controller.
The Steam Controller was unveiled a couple of years ago but as some of you might recall, it has undergone some changes in its design which we can say is for the better. A report from earlier this year also suggested that the final design had been locked in so we guess GDC 2015 is where we can look forward to seeing it.
GDC is also where Valve will be showing off new living room devices, which we can only assume are the Steam Machines which were expected to go on sale last year, so hopefully Valve will have some good news for us next week.

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb 23 (Reuters) – About 20 Florida manatees were freed by early Tuesday morning from a storm drain near Cape Canaveral, where they were apparently trying to warm themselves, officials and local media said.
Video footage showed a rescuer comforting one manatee floating at the opening of the pipe, which was cut open during the hours-long rescue.
The footage, posted online by Central Florida News 13 and Florida Today newspaper, also showed a manatee being carried in a sling to a nearby canal, where it was released to cheers from onlookers, and two other manatees being petted after being hoisted out of the water by heavy machinery.
The rescue in Satellite Beach, a town on the Atlantic coast 15 miles (24 km) south of Cape Canaveral, started mid-afternoon on Monday when Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission biologist, Ann Spellman, sounded the alarm, according to Florida Today.
She told the paper that her hunch led city workers to check the 100-150 feet long drain pipe.
Manatees, also known as sea cows, often leave the Indian River Lagoon during cold snaps for warmer waters in the canals and had probably followed each other into the pipe, she said.
The rescue wrapped up at about 2 a.m. local time (0600 GMT), Satellite Beach Fire Department Captain Jay Dragon said, with local police working alongside experts from SeaWorld. (Additional reporting by Curtis Skinner; Editing by Louise Ireland)
