Patriot offers Type-C USB Flash Drive for new MacBook owners

patriot-usb-type-cWhen it comes to portable storage, the USB flash drive happens to be the most popular choice, and has been for quite some time now for obvious reasons. It is not only small and convenient, but modern day technology has seen the capacity in such a device balloon to a point where it is simply ridiculous – and to think that one had to fork out an arm and a leg to pick up a 64MB USB flash drive in the past. Well, USB technology has not remained stagnant, that is for sure, where the Type-C USB port is now in vogue, which is why we have the likes of Patriot jumping aboard the bandwagon to offer their new Type-C USB Flash Drive for new MacBook owner.

This should not come across as a surprise in any way, since Patriot has been a leading manufacturer of mobile accessories, computer and USB memory for quite some time now. Hence, the development of a Type-C USB Flash Drive for the new MacBook, Google Chromebook Pixel and other Type-C equipped notebooks and systems is more than welcome news. After all, with the most recent MacBook model been released, that will sport the new Type-C port, Patriot’s latest offering will enable consumers to make use of the Type-C USB Flash Drive so that they can transfer data from any other form factor using a single robust and small solution.

This unique USB flash drive will come with a polished metal exterior, where it boasts of a dual-sided Type-C/Type A USB Flash Drive form factor, featuring a small Type-C at one end and a standard USB 3.0 connector at the other end so that one can enjoy seamless data transfer from traditional devices to the new Type C based device. This would go a long way in solving the issue of compatibility, at the same time making it compatible with just about all devices. Expect this new Type-C USB Flash Drive to arrive later this June in 32GB and 64GB capacities.

The Sand Funnel – because you can’t play in sand without the proper water-to-sand ratio

Sand Funnel

If you ever went to the beach when you were a little kid, you know how amazing sand seemed. It could be dry and take on no shape, slightly wet and malleable, or sludgy and awesome. Regardless of how you played with sand, you were certain to be covered in it by the end of the day, and it was only going to bother you a tiny amount in comparison to how much fun you had from it.

While it is completely possible to play in the sand without any help, toys can always make things more fun. If you now have children and are thinking about having a beach trip, then there’s likely a question of which water-friendly toys to get. If you want more of a focus on building sand castles, then maybe this Sand Funnel could be of use. This is a toy with two reservoirs, one for sand and the other for water so you can make all sorts of sand creations.

Both sides will be mixed when they fall out of the bottom of the funnel, allowing you to direct where the stream lands. There isn’t an on or off button though, so you’ll have to either plug the tip or make quick work of things when it’s full. Made of ABS plastic, this can be washed with soap and warm water. This is only going to cost you $10, which isn’t much, but will add on to the overall price from the multitude of other toys your child will want.

Available for purchase on uncommongoods

Fancy A Skype Video Call Portrait, Anyone?

skype-portraitSkype video calls are nothing new, this is for sure. The thing is, what are some of the other ways in which one will be able to take advantage of a Skype video call, perhaps to make it all the more artistic? Well, Elisa Perez has figured out a method that has surely not been thought up of – or at least, even if it has been done, it has not been publicized in such a way. Perez happens to be a talented painter who loves Skype, and she has decided to elevate the art of portraiture to a whole new level, with the latest project being known as Screen Face. Screen Face will portray people as they are, while they chat over a Skype video call. Just remember to keep you clothes on!

Elisa Perez shared, “The idea for the project started while I was doing an Erasmus course in Brussels. Most contact with friends and family back in Spain was mainly via Skype.” During such Skype-enabled conversations, it gave her enough time to reflect on the numerous methods in which the Internet actually influenced face-to-face interaction.

Hence, she decided to use her artistic skills to launch Screen Face, and this process would include painting the portraits of those on “the other line”. What do you think of such an effort? It is laudable to say the least. [Press Release]

Watch Face Apps For Apple Watch Won’t Be Allowed

apple watch

Apple Watch owners will have access to a handful of watch faces that the company has created so they can pick and choose as they like, but they will certainly be limited in terms of choice. That’s because Apple has laid down the law that it won’t allow watch face applications for the Apple Watch. This means that third-party watch faces will not be given any space on Apple’s first smartwatch.

This was to be expected to be honest, Apple hasn’t always made its software open to customization by third-parties, which is why jailbreaking was so big back in the day. It allowed people to customize their devices the way Apple didn’t want them to.

Apple has updated its App Store guidelines to caution developers that it will not be approving any applications that only have one feature which is to tell the time. The company doesn’t provide any other alternative to install third-party watch faces.

On the other hand this is something that’s more than acceptable on Android Wear. Folks who have Android Wear smartwatches can download third-party watch faces from a variety of sources, but this then leads to quality issues, and Apple isn’t about to have that on its smartwatch.

Does this mean that Apple will never allow people to use watch faces from independent sources? Perhaps the company may launch a program that lets people submit watch faces for the Apple Watch, but this is pure speculation.

LG Picked Snapdragon 808 For The G4 A Year Ago, Says Qualcomm

lg-g4-industrial-design-09

You probably have heard by now that LG has decided to go with the Snapdragon 808 processor for its G4 flagship instead of the Snapdragon 810 which many would have expected it to pick. LG does use this processor in the G Flex 2, a device it unveiled at CES earlier this year. To counter rumors about LG possibly dropping this chip due to overheating concerns Qualcomm has said that the company actually decided to use the Snapdragon 808 for the G4 a year ago.

It hasn’t been a good year for the Snapdragon 810. Samsung passed it over for the Exynos 7420 chip for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Then there were the neverending rumors about overheating issues with the Snapdragon 810.

Many believed that after trying its hand at this chip in the G Flex 2, LG had decided to go with the slightly less powerful Snapdragon 808 for the G4 to not face the aforementioned issue on its flagship device.

During an interview Qualcomm’s head of marketing Tim McDonough said that this particular decision comes from “over a year ago,” so it won’t be right to say that LG picked the Snapdragon 808 over the Snapdragon 810. He also refuted rumors about overheating as many Qualcomm executives have done recently.

Given that this is Qualcomm’s high-end chip for 2015 it’s not surprising to see the company try to show that LG is not moving away from the Snapdragon 810 due to any problems.

Back in February, Qualcomm actually released a statement with several of its partners like Microsoft, Motorola and Sony all of which reiterated that they will be using the Snapdragon 810 in their high-end devices this year.
