People Used To Work Inside Hamster Wheels

Perhaps the better way to phrase this is, “Hamsters now work inside person wheels,” because the person wheel definitely came first. These comic-looking but useful devices helped build many of the landmarks we now cherish.

Spraypainting Phalluses On Potholes Is One Way To Get Them Fixed

The roads around my house have emerged from the winter looking like the set from a WWII epic set on a war-torn Moon. Local government, as a rule, sucks at repairing car-eating potholes in a timely and effective manner — unless, that is, you surround said pothole with a brightly colored penis.

ESPN Host Rips Into Live Coverage Of Blizzard’s Heroes Of the Dorm

heroes of the dormWhile there are still some traditionalists who believe that games like football, basketball, hockey, cricket, golf, and etc. are considered “sports”, there are more modern views which have recently considered video games to be a form of competitive sports. In fact there are universities which offer scholarships for being good at sports, and recently gamers have also been granted visas to the US under “pro athlete” status.

Unsurprisingly not everyone is thrilled with this direction and one of those people is ESPN’s Colin Cowherd. Recently ESPN2 provided a two-hour long live coverage of Blizzard’s Heroes of the Dorm tournament which is a competition based on the company’s upcoming Heroes of the Storm MOBA. However it seems that Cowherd wasn’t particularly happy about the coverage and went on a rant.

According to Cowherd who went on a rant during his own show, “Here’s what’s going to get me off the air. If I am ever forced to cover guys playing video games, I will retire and move to a rural fishing village and sell bait. You want me out? Demand video game tournaments on ESPN because that’s what appeared on ESPN 2 yesterday.”

Safe to say that many were not impressed by Cowherd’s rants, although in all fairness he probably has his share of fans and other more traditionalists who agree that perhaps ESPN should stick to “real” sports as opposed to video games, but what say you? Are you in the camp that believes that sports has to involve physical activities, or do you accept that the competitive nature of video games makes it just as intense as a game of football or basketball?

Moto 360, LG G Watch R See Their Prices Cut On Google Play

moto-360-smartwatch-review-1Following the launch of the LG Watch Urbane on Google Play, it seems that older Android Wear models are seeing a cut in their prices as well. It has been noted that devices like the Moto 360 and the LG G Watch R have had their prices slashed from $250 to $180 for the Moto 360, and $300 to $250 for the LG G Watch R.

So for customers who are after some smartwatches but don’t want to pay too much money for the Apple Watch or the LG Watch Urbane, hopefully these new prices will make them more tempting. While we can’t be sure why Google has decided to reduce the prices of its Android Wear lineup, presumably it is so that more inventory space can be made for newer devices.

That being said, it is possible that devices like the Moto 360 are being discounted because its successor could be on its way. Previously we had seen alleged images of the Moto 360’s successor and there has been some rumors regarding that with a device codenamed “Smelt”. Based on what we know, “Smelt” has a slightly higher resolution than the current Moto 360, but beyond that is anyone’s guess.

Google I/O will be kicking off from the 28-29th of May in San Francisco so hopefully Google and their smartwatch OEMs will have some announcements to share. In the meantime interested customers can pop on over to the Google Play Store and get their hands on the discounted LG G Watch R or the Moto 360.

DARPA’s Guided Bullet Proves It Can Hit Moving Targets

DARPA has been working on guided bullets for a while now and in the latest footage released, it shows that their EXACTO bullet will be able to hit moving targets. Basically the idea of guided bullets is to help increase accuracy, especially in conditions that might not necessarily be ideal and would also allow novices to shoot just as much on-point as the professionals.

In the video above, DARPA shows how both the novice and experienced shooter can hit a moving target. However in the case of a more experienced shooter, the EXACTO bullet will also be able to hit actively evading targets as well which is even more impressive. According to Jerome Dunn, DARPA’s program manager, “True to DARPA’s mission, EXACTO has demonstrated what was once thought impossible: the continuous guidance of a small-caliber bullet to target.”

Dunn also adds, “This live-fire demonstration from a standard rifle showed that EXACTO is able to hit moving and evading targets with extreme accuracy at sniper ranges unachievable with traditional rounds. Fitting EXACTO’s guidance capabilities into a small .50-caliber size is a major breakthrough and opens the door to what could be possible in future guided projectiles across all calibers.”

We have to admit that it is pretty cool but it seems that more work still needs to be done on the technology, such as further improving its accuracy. There is still no word on when it is expected to make its way into the guns of American snipers.

Professor Tries To Fail Entire Class, But Texas A&M Won't Let Him

Texas A&M University professor Irwin Horwitz would like to fail his entire class — close to three dozen students in total — but the school is blocking him from doing so.

Horwitz announced in emails last week to university administrators and to his strategic management class that he would no longer teach the course and would fail the entire class because “None of you … deserve to pass, or graduate to become an Aggie,” according to Inside Higher Ed.

The professor said the class was being so disruptive that he couldn’t last teaching the course for the rest of the semester, and now a department head will take over.

Horwitz told KPRC the class was so bad he needed security guards in the room.

“Since teaching this course, I have caught and seen cheating, been told to ‘chill out,’ ‘get out of my space,’ ‘go back and teach,’ [been] called a ‘fucking moron’ to my face, [had] one student cheat by signing in for another, one student not showing up but claiming they did, listened to many hurtful and untrue rumors about myself and others, been caught between fights between students,” Horwitz wrote in an email to students, published by Inside Higher Ed.

Texas A&M Vice President of Academic Affairs Patrick Louchouarn told KPRC none of the students have failed the class though, because the “only reason a student would fail because he or she has not performed the expectations for that particular class.” The university will, however, investigate Horwitz’ allegations about student misbehavior.

“I have nothing left,” Horwitz told the Houston Chronicle, blaming the school for not enforcing the university’s honor code against his allegedly unruly students. “I put my neck on the line for what I thought was the right thing to do.”
