Canon acquires Lifecake, a photos app for parents

Canon is among the camera companies feeling the squeeze from the proliferation of smartphone cameras, and so perhaps that is one of the reasons behind its new acquisition of Lifecake, the company behind the photo-sharing app for parents by the same name. This move will give Canon another sliver of the mobile pie, and is designed specifically for parents who … Continue reading

It’s Official: Silent Hills Has Been Cancelled

silent hillsEarlier today we reported that Konami had issued a Q&A about the future of the upcoming Silent Hills game. However the Q&A did not exactly confirm with a certainty that the game had been cancelled. Thankfully the company has since come forward with a more definitive answer and it’s not good news.

The company has officially confirmed with a statement that the game has been cancelled. “Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.”

That being said it seems that all might not necessarily be lost as the second part of the statement reads, “In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.” We’re not sure what that means but it sounds like Konami wouldn’t mind working with either Hideo Kojima or Guillermo del Toro for future titles, although we’re not sure what was wrong with this one.

In the meantime the game’s playable teaser, also known as P.T. will be pulled from the Sony PlayStation Store this week so if you want to get in on a last run to see what could have been, you best get it on ASAP!

LG Watch Urbane Now Available From Google Play

LG_WATCH_URBANE_LIFESTYLE_01If you’re after a classy-looking smartwatch, there aren’t that many options around and the LG Watch Urbane is probably one of the newer ones. That being said last week we reported that the wearable would be released this month and given that we’re almost towards the end of April, it does seem like a good time for LG to release it, and release it they have!

For those interested in picking up the device for themselves, the LG Watch Urbane has been launched on the Google Play Store. Unfortunately it isn’t available worldwide yet and will only be available in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, South Korea, and Spain. No word on when it will make its way to other parts of the world so we’ll just have to remain patient and keep an eye out for it.

The LG Watch Urbane is priced at $350 making it a tad more expensive than other smartwatches out there and also more expensive than the LG G Watch R, its sibling with a less upscale design, but if you’re after a premium look and feel we guess that’s the price you’d have to pay.

That being said for those who are wondering what one can expect from the device, basically it is identical to the LG G Watch R in terms of hardware. It will feature a 1.3-inch Plastic OLED display and will be powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. There will be 512MB of RAM accompanying the device and will also feature 4GB of storage, a 410mAh battery, and will be IP67 certified.

Apple Has Sold 61.2 Million iPhones In The Last 3 Months

apple_logoIt is no secret that the iPhone is a popular device, and by launching the larger screen iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple has finally given customers what they’ve been clamoring for all these years, a bigger display, which is why it does not come as a surprise to learn that the iPhone has been selling like hotcakes, even after half a year.

According to Apple’s latest earnings report, it has been revealed that for the past 3 months ending in March, the Cupertino company has managed to sell a whopping 61.2 million iPhones. This represents a 40% increase from the same period last year and has blown past the estimates offered by analysts which was pegged at 56.8 million units.

That being said it does represent a drop from the last quarter ending in December where Apple sold 74.5 million units which was also the best-selling period for iPhones ever, although we guess that’s to be expected as the excitement and hype has died down, plus the launch of newer handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S6 have probably managed to lure some potential customers away.

In a statement made by Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, “We are thrilled by the continued strength of iPhone, Mac and the App Store, which drove our best March quarter results ever. We’re seeing a higher rate of people switching to iPhone than we’ve experienced in previous cycles, and we’re off to an exciting start to the June quarter with the launch of Apple Watch.”

Apple Watch – Will It Blend? Yes It Does!

The folks at Blendtec have over the years blended all sorts of gadgets, ranging from tablets to smartphones, and at one point they even tried to blend the guitar controller from Guitar Hero 3, and successfully we might add! This is why we can’t say we’re too surprised to learn that they are back and this time round, they are asking the age old question of whether or not the Apple Watch will blend?

Now we’ve seen all kinds of torture tests conducted on the Apple Watch ranging from the not-so-scientific to those done in a more controlled and scientific manner, but safe to say that given Blendtec’s ability to blend just about anything, there’s nothing scientific or educational about this, except to say that you’ll probably not want to drop your Apple Watch into a blender anytime soon.

The results are as expected: the Apple Watch is completely destroyed in the process. However interestingly enough the rubber band used by the Apple Watch Sport proved to be rather durable and managed to hold its own against the blades of the blender for a while before it started to get ripped apart. That being said it didn’t take long for the Apple Watch to be reduced to nothing but a pile of dust. It’s a bit painful to watch but if you have a few minutes to spare, check it out in the video above.

Diablo 3 Player Hits Level 70 In A Little Over A Minute

We know there are gamers out there who are power-levelers and are trying to see how long it takes for them to hit the max level in a game in as little time as possible, although it looks like in the case of Diablo 3 player Dat Modz, he’s probably taken the cake with a very, very impressive time of 65 seconds.

Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you, a Diablo 3 players has actually managed to hit level 70, which is the level cap (not counting paragon levels) in a little over a minute! How is this possible? First of all he was not playing solo. Instead Dat Modz had friends who opened up the not-so-secret Cow Level for him which gives a massive experience boost.

He also relied on several items and gems which gave him XP boosts, such as the Hellfire Ring with the Gem of Ease, and also equips Leoric’s Signet when he’s at the appropriate level, and to top it off he has a Ruby socketed into his helm which helps with the experience gains as well. We have to admit that it is a pretty impressive run and one that might not be so easy to pull off for many gamers.

However if you have some friends who are willing to give you a hand and you want to skip the mundanity of grinding through the levels and the different difficulty modes, then perhaps this is a method worth checking out. In the meantime you can see Dat Modz’s insane power-leveling in the video above.

MyFitnessPal Launched On The Apple Watch

myfitnesspal apple watchFor those who have ever tried to count calories and keep track of their diet, apps like MyFitnessPal are a popular choice. This is thanks to the app’s database of food which is updated and added to by users, meaning that all kinds of snacks and food combinations can be found within it.

The good news for avid users of the app is that MyFitnessPal has recently announced that their app has been launched for the Apple Watch, meaning that users will be able to check information about their nutrition information by looking at their wrist instead of having to look at their smartphone all the time.

Through the screens, users will be able to swipe through and get access to different information such as calories remaining, progress towards macronutrient and micronutrient goals, and how many calories they’ve earned for themselves by working out. The app will also see integration with UA Record, MapMyRun, and Endomondo which isn’t surprising given that Under Armour had acquired these companies earlier this year.

The apps are available for download via the Apple Watch App Store or the iTunes App Store on your smartphone, so if getting in shape is still one of your resolutions for 2015, then these apps could come in handy.
