Apple Watch May Soon Let You Shop From The Apple Store

apple watch

There are apps available right now for people who want to shop using the Apple Watch, as one tech reviewer found out as he accidently purchased an Xbox One while filming an Apple Watch demo. Aside from Amazon, Target is yet another major retailer that lets people purchase stuff using their smartwatch. A new report claims that Apple’s first smartwatch may soon allow you to purchase products from the Apple Store.

According to 9to5mac’s sources Apple is putting the final touches on a version of its Apple Store app for its first smartwatch, it’s expected to arrive “soon” through an update for the Apple Store app for iPhone and iPad.

It makes perfect sense for Apple to do this. The app will provide Apple Watch users with a simple way to purchase more products from the company, it’s actually hard to find a reason why Apple shouldn’t do this.

According to the report the app will not only let people purchase stuff but they will also be able to receive their Apple Store-related notifications right on their wrist.

Apparently the company is going to make its store employees push Apple Store app installations on the Apple Watch once the smartwatch goes on sale in its stores this summer, until that happens employees will be encouraged to show off the application on demo units of the Apple Watch.

BBM For iPhone Returns To The App Store

iPhone-6-review-12

Late last night the BlackBerry Messenger for iPhone app was mysteriously pulled from the App Store. It didn’t make any sense since the app has been available for download through the App Store for quite some time now, some chalked it up as a glitch and remained hopeful that BBM would soon make its return. Indeed it has, BBM for iPhone is once again live on the App Store and can be downloaded at will.

Many of you might be well aware that it has only been a couple of years since BlackBerry took BBM cross-platform. Previously its instant messaging service used to be limited to its own smartphones.

Now though BBM can be found on iOS, Android and even Windows Phone. BlackBerry has actually restructured it as a separate business which appears to be doing well, despite the fact that it has over 100 million users. Many popular cross-platform IM apps have much more than that.

A new version of BBM for iPhone is now available for download through the App Store. Version 280.8.1.76 of BBM for iPhone happens to be newer than the one in beta right now, while it doesn’t bring much in the name of new features, users should expect to get bug fixes and general improvements.

Google’s Password Alert Extension Will Protect You Against Phishing

password-alert-chrome

Phishing attacks can be hard to spot for users who are likely to miss the red flags and these attacks can end up compromising their online presence, and may even result in the theft of their personal and private information. It goes without saying that nobody will mind being protected against phishing attacks which is why Google’s new extension is likely going to be taken up by many people.

The extension is called Password Alert and it’s main purpose is to protect your Google account from phishing attacks. It’s a free and open-source Chrome extension that will protect Google and Google Apps for Work accounts.

Keep in mind though that this extension will only protect your Google Account and won’t be of any use on another site that’s masquerading as Facebook or some other social network.

To combat that Google is improving its Safe Browsing technology in the Chrome browser to warn people against potentially dangerous sites that might be up just to steal their information.

Basically if you come across a site that’s imitating accounts.google.com to steal your login credentials, Password Alert for Chrome will instantly warn you about the danger. The extension simply checks the page’s HTML to identify whether or not it’s an authentic Google page.

Password Alert is a free extension for the Chrome browser, available for download through the Chrome Web Store.

Airbnb App For Tablets Finally Arrives

airbnb-tablet-app

Airbnb has long offered mobile applications for iOS and Android but it has taken its sweet time to come up with one that supports tablets as well. The property rental company has finally released an app that’s compatible with tablets, it brings a magazine-style user interface on both iOS and Android.

iOS users have been able to use the existing iPhone app on their iPads, however the app is displayed in 2x magnified mode and retains the user interface that’s suited best for the iPhone. You can imagine how that looks on the iPad. Many Airbnb users would certainly have been hoping for one that’s optimized for the tablet.

Airbnb says that the new app is actually more than just an app, it calls it a “picture book,” with high-resolution images being front and center as users slip through a magazine-style interface to find properties around the world that they might be interested in renting.

The app features “dual-paned” browsing which lets you view messages and properties simultaneously, and immersive maps provide more information about a listing before you actually click through.

Alex Schleifer, head of design at Airbnb, said “Our tablet apps were inspired by the elegance of magazines and coffee table books.” The updated Airbnb apps for iOS and Android with tablet support will be rolled out later today.

Hulu-logo

Hulu has announced today that it has reached a deal with AMC which gives it exclusive subscription video-on-demand streaming rights for a new program called “Fear of the Walking Dead.” If the name sounds a bit familiar that’s because this is no coincidence, the new show is actually a spin-off of the insanely popular The Walking Dead series. This deal is part of a multiyear deal that Hulu has signed with AMC.

This deal with AMC also provides Hulu with new and upcoming shows from partner networks like IFC, BBC America, Sundance TV and WE tv.

Hulu will exclusively stream Fear of the Walking Dead online before it appears elsewhere, it will also get exclusive streaming rights to other shows from the aforementioned channels.

That’s not the only big news that Hulu announced today. After months of rumors about all the different online video streaming services that could score exclusive streaming rights to rerun favorite Seinfeld, it was finally confirmed today that this crown is also going to Hulu.

Hulu is now the exclusive online streaming home for Seinfeld and reportedly it has paid up to $180 million for this privilege. All nine seasons of Seinfeld will start streaming only on Hulu this June.

GTA 5 Online Players On PC Being Banned Due To Mods

gta-5-pc-delay

It appears that Rockstar has started banning GTA 5 online players on PC who use mods, no matter what kind of mod they use, one that’s cosmetic in nature or one that gives them an unfair advantage over other players. Many players have taken to reddit to report that they are actively being banned if they use a mod when playing GTA 5 online on the PC.

Players who are talking about this on reddit appear to be confused if they’ll be banned regardless of what mod they’re using, some believe that as long as the cosmetic mod doesn’t give them an unfair advantage they shouldn’t be banned from playing online.

The number of conflicting reports from other players is interesting, because some say that they have not been banned and they continue to play online with mods.

The Grand Theft Auto franchise has historically had a robust mod community so it’s not at all surprising to see people coming up with these modifications after Rockstar finally launched this title for the PC.

However Rockstar has not yet revealed bannable offense to the community which is why confusion persists regarding mods, particularly when playing online. GTA 5 players on PC will face no issues with any mod that they use during the single player mode.
