The Sandwich Knife – construct the perfect sandwich

Sandwich-Knife
When you want to make a sandwich, you want fresh bread, meat, cheese, veggies, and condiments that haven’t been in your refrigerator for three years. Every aspect of your sandwich will add to the overall flavor. While you can’t do much about the freshness of the meat or veggies unless you’re harvesting everything yourself, you can bake a fresh loaf of bread at home.

Of course, a loaf of bread that is not pre-cut usually ends up being a little lop-sided when you go to slice it. If you don’t want to measure and cut every slice, then you can spend money on something that will do the job for you. This Sandwich Knife has two parallel and vertically offset blades that will cut two pieces of bread, while leaving the crust connected between them so your ingredients and sauce will stay on the inside of your sandwich.

Once you’ve cut your pieces of bread, you can load it up with sauces, veggies, meats, and cheese and snack away without worrying about tomato juice and mayo running onto your hands. This is going to cost you $40, and is a completely frivolous purchase. If you love baking bread and eating sandwiches though, then this could be worth it. It will be made of stainless steel and can be put into the dishwasher for easy cleaning.

The Light Phone Is The Anti-Smartphone

432055c233ad3c671fee8651504e81dd_original The Light Phone is the opposite of every other phone in existence. It is thin, light, lasts 20 days on a charge, and literally does nothing but make and answer calls. It’s as if the makers of the Sports Illustrated Football Phone had studied the timeless teachings of William Walker Atkinson and created a telephone that was the platonic ideal of the ultimate telecommunication device. Apple iPhone 6s Might Hit The Launchpad In August

iPhone 6

A lot of buzz has already been created about the much-awaited iPhone 6s, and now to add fuel to the fire, grapevine is oozing with the speculation that the device might hit the launchpad earlier than expected.

If a pair of latest reports from Taiwan’s The United Daily News are to be believed, Apple’s next in line device might be launched in August and not September, due to finer production results.

The Korean Daily also cites various suppliers, and according to them Apple might already be working much more effectively on the production of the components of the forthcoming smartphones. As per the sources, they also hinted at the two devices under the production hood, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

Despite all the expectations, we don’t really think that Apple will make any changes in the outlook of the upcoming device, however we can expect the company to tweak the hardware. Many rumors are making rounds that the company might increase the camera to 12-megapixels. It may also provide 2GB of RAM paired with a latest processor.

Having said all that, the above information still stand on the rumor pedestal without any solid confirmation. Only time will tell if Apple releases the devices before the stipulated month or not.

Torrent Website EZTV Shut Down Following Hostile Takeover

eztvFor those who torrent TV shows, there is a good chance you might have heard of EZTV which is probably the place most torrent users go if they want to download TV-based torrents. Unfortunately it looks like these users will now need to look elsewhere for their downloads as the website has been shut down.

However it was not shut down by the authorities, at least it does not look that way. Instead it looks like it was the work of scammers who somehow successfully managed to conduct a hostile takeover of the website which led to EZTV’s founder and main operator, NovaKing, to call it quits.

How the scammers managed to take over the website is a pretty elaborate one that started with the scammers registering the same name over in the UK called EZCloud LIMITED. According to the report from TorrentFreak, “Using the EZCloud company details and by faking the director’s name, the scammers also managed to take over the EZTV.se domain through the EuroDNS registrar. NovaKing tried to prevent this from happening by alerting the registrar, but according to an EZTV staffer he was told to get a court order if he wanted his domain back.”

As it stands the website is still up and running, but is apparently being operated by the scammers who are distributing their own torrents. Whether or not these torrents are the real deal remains to be seen, but then again you probably shouldn’t be downloading them in the first place, right?

LG G4 Could Be Launched On Verizon June 4

lg_g4_verizonAs we reported earlier today, it looks like the LG G4 is starting to ship out this week to customers. Unfortunately it looks like the first batch of countries to get the device did not include North America which has us wonder when will the phone make its way stateside? If the speculation is to be believed, then you might want to mark the 4th of June on your calendars.

The folks at PhoneArena have spotted what appears to be a clue on Verizon’s website. As you can see in the screenshot above, the date on the phone’s display states the 4th of June which for 2015 is indeed a Thursday. This has led to speculation that the 4th of June could be the launch date of the LG G4 on Verizon’s network.

There’s no guarantee that this is the real deal, but it does sound plausible. However we should note that this is just for Verizon. As you guys know the LG G4 will be launched across the four major carriers, so the release date of the phone could differ from carrier to carrier, so for all we know there is a possibility that one of the four could release the phone before the rest.

That being said, T-Mobile is expected to launch a preview of the handset come 25th of May which is about two weeks from the 4th of June, so perhaps it might not be such a stretch of the imagination after all, but try not to get your hopes up just yet as we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more info.

OnePlus One Touchscreen Fix Leads To Battery Drain

oneplus-01A couple of weeks ago we reported that there was an issue with the OnePlus One’s touchscreen display. OnePlus then made a statement claiming that they would be working with Synaptics, the company behind the handset’s touchscreen technology, to come up with a fix for the problem.

The good news is that they did and the fix appeared to work according to users who downloaded the CM12.1 nightly that was released for the phone. One user was quoted as saying, “Today’s build totally fixed all my touch problems. This phone feels new. No more ghost swipes, works hot or cold, typing messages doesn’t take forever and a day. I’m blown away.”

Seems like good news, doesn’t it? Unfortunately it also seems that in the process, the CM12.1 nightly that was released had a side effect and that was it started to drain the handset’s battery in a very noticeable way, leading users to complain about the problem and also lead to Cyanogen having to revert the firmware.

XDA developer tiny4579 posted, “Initial testing indicates it might be the touchscreen firmware itself causing the initial drain. More testing is needed to be certain, but I tried this and was still seeing the increased drain, even on the previous nightly and firmware with the new touchscreen drivers.”

However we should point out that this is based on the nightly build which means that there is a chance that there might be some bugs. Thankfully the update was not pushed out to the masses just yet, only those who were interested in taking the nightly for a spin. Hopefully the issue will be fixed in a timely manner before being rolled out to everyone else.

TWRP Now Supports Qualcomm Encryption On The OnePlus One

oneplus logo

Good things just can’t stop making their way to OnePlus One owners, right from the end of Cyanogen issue few week ago and now it has garnered the TWRP support. The latest build of TWRP has started supporting the native Qualcomm encryption on the phone.

Now, for all those wondering what is TWRP? The abbreviation in full form means, Team Win Recovery Project. It is an open-source recovery image for the devices running Android OS. It offers touch-enabled interface that enables users to install third-party firmwares and backup on the current system, such support is often not available on stock recoveries.

TWRP developer, Ethan Yonker (Dees Troy) took to Google+ to announce that Qualcomm encryption delivers enhanced performance on the devices when compared to the stock Android encryption. The developer says that TWRP encryption addition makes the custom recovery platform better.

The recent build for OnePlus supports the decryption of CM11, CM12, CM12.1, as well as Oxygen OS. But there is a whole lot of stuff that you need to know before trying it out. As Yonker has explained in his post, If you didn’t encrypt using CM 12.0 nightly on or after 16th of January 2015, you probably aren’t getting the performance benefits of Qualcomm’s encryption. It also appears that the Oxygen OS team did not add support for Qualcomm encryption. If performance matters to you but you need to be encrypted, then I’d suggest sticking with CM.

The Android Open Source Project (AOSP) is apparently turning towards the native Qualcomm encryption because it speeds up the read-write performance. This also means that we might soon witness Google and other manufacturers using such encryptions for their forthcoming devices. Qualcomm already serves a major chunk of mobile phone manufacturers, which makes the whole idea easier to execute.

Public Speaking Etiquette – 10 Solid Ways to Get Yourself Noticed

Most people would rather have a root canal than stand up in front of a crowd and make a speech, even among their own peers. Yet, one of the most efficient and effective venues for getting yourself noticed is speaking to a group of people with a message that supports your knowledge, intelligence, and strengths. People will not only listen, but take note of your presentation skills. I often hear the remark, “You are so lucky, you don’t have to worry about making a fool of yourself!” On the contrary, every speech is a prime opportunity to do something or say something that may come across as foolish. A joke may tank, a remark may be delivered incorrectly or you may fall on your face (and I have!). Over the years, I’ve learned how to minimize these risks by utilizing a few simple tools.

  1. Speak hands-free. Glancing down, relying on note cards is distracting. Put down your papers and speak directly to your audience, connecting with eye contact and engaging with a smile and strong knowledge. Don’t worry about getting off course. No one will know you have skipped ahead of your presentation. Complete your thoughts and incorporate the material you missed into another segment of your speech.
  2. Avoid sputtering off too many statistics. One or two relevant statistics to support a comment is acceptable, but most participants would rather you speak their language than come across as a statistician. Share your own thoughts, experiences and insights on the topic.
  3. Get some rest. When your energy level is compromised, you may struggle to deliver a concise message. Make time to get enough sleep and steer clear of caffeine or alcohol the night before an early morning presentation.
  4. Inject humor. People enjoy seeing the presenter as a relatable human. Tell a story or a joke that you feel comfortable relaying. A good story captures the audience’s attention. A joke can easily work against you if it appears as if you are trying too hard.
  5. Encourage Q and A’s. If someone has a question, mention they are welcome to ask during the presentation. It’s a great icebreaker and sets the stage for two way dialogue rather than a talking head in the front of the room. Let the audience know they are free to give their opinion or share a thought.
  6. Stay mindful of the sound of your own voice. Record yourself and listen carefully to how you sound under pressure. Taping yourself will indicate if you need to practice slowing down, speaking up, or articulating your words more clearly. Look out for “up speak,” ending each sentence with a question mark rather than a period.
  7. Make sure your words mirror your facial expressions. If you are telling a serious story, or delivering bad news, a wide smile will not correspond with your message. On the other hand, if you are attempting to come across as light and breezy, a pensive furrow and a tight lipped smile sends a conflicting message. Practice your speech in the mirror to work out the body language kinks.
  8. Understand the power in a pause. A brief lapse of words can express thoughtful contemplation, or emphasize a particular point. It can also be used to let others know you are uncertain and thinking the answer through. If you are caught off guard, don’t be afraid to say “I don’t know, but I will find out and get back to you.”
  9. Hire a professional to coach you. When I first started out, I hired a speech trainer that worked with me on my personal idiosyncrasies and nuances. She methodically taped me, critiqued me, and gave me honest feedback. I sharpened my presentation skills with each session and eventually found my natural voice. Years later I went on to do the same for others, and took over her clients when she retired. Study with the best and the results will be well worth the cost of training.
  10. Relax and have fun. Once you have mastered your speech, and practiced until you are pitch perfect, trust your own ability to deliver a message that is foolproof and inspirational.
