Adam Savage Builds a Star Trek Captains Chair

When Adam Savage isn’t working on Mythbusters or other projects, he spends his off time creating some really cool and geeky items.

Case in point is this Star Trek captain’s chair replica. The project was inspired after Savage purchased an expensive “replica” captain’s chair that left him wanting more. So more is what he created.

Adam built the entire captain’s chair from scratch, including the carpentry and leather upholstery. He later called in his tech-savvy pal Jeremy Williams to help add lights and Trek sound effects to the buttons and switches.

To prove he is an über geek, Adam included the communications pod from the unaired pilot episode of Star Trek “The Cage” and he also put a drawer in the base of the chair for other props. You need somewhere to store those pointy ears and phasers after all. Check out the video for more chair details.

Sonos Offers New $349 Bundle With Two Play:1 Speakers

sonos-play-1-review-10

Sonos audio systems are quite popular for the ease of use they offer, not to mention the fact that the audio quality is not bad as well. Users are able to synchronize music throughout their house if multiple speakers are spread across different rooms, to play a different track in each of those rooms. The potential of Sonos is unlocked when you’re using a multi-speaker setup and now the company is making it easier and cheaper to get such a setup up and running.

The company today announced that it’s selling a new bundle, a 2 Room Starter Set, for $349. The bundle includes two Play:1 speakers.

You are certainly under no compulsion to place both speakers in different rooms, you can easily create a proper stereo experience by placing both Play:1 speakers together.

If you were to purchase both Play:1 speakers separately it would cost you $399, so with this bundle you get to save $50, that’s certainly not a bad deal.

The bundle offers speakers in either black or white colors. Sonos is selling the bundle through its website as well as through major retailers which include Best Buy and Amazon.

Sonos also revealed today that it’s working to improve the audio quality offered by the Play:1 through a software update which will be released in the near future.

sony-morpheus-gdc2014-hubert-nguyen

Sony has made no secret of the fact that it’s working on a virtual reality headset that’s currently known as Project Morpheus. However Sony has not yet revealed precisely when it’s going to launch this headset. Previous reports suggest that it might be released in June 2016. Sony has not confirmed this timeframe. A new report out of Japan today claims that Sony will launch Project Morpheus before June 2016.

Things are certainly heating up in the virtual reality arena. Oculus is gearing up for the commercial launch of the Rift headset. On the other hand companies like Samsung have already pushed out two generations of their cheap headsets that require a smartphone to function as the display.

HTC is also jumping in the game with Valve, the duo are working on the Vive VR headset that was unveiled just a few weeks back to the public.

Japanese publication Asahi claims that Sony is going to release Project Morpheus VR headset before June 2016. However the report does not go on to make it clear whether this is the release timeframe for the Japanese market or if this is when the headset will be released globally.

Sony is tightlipped on the matter and has not confirmed or denied this possible release timeframe for its virtual reality headset.
