Modulo Modular Programmable Electronics: Slidestorms

We’ve seen programmable electronics that use magnets or Bluetooth instead of wires and solder to connect its parts. But those kits are mainly meant for beginners, and are not as powerful or versatile as more advanced computers such as the Raspberry Pi or Arduino boards. Modulo Labs has developed a middle ground in the form of Modulo, a modular development board.

Like the aforementioned beginner kits, Modulo does away with soldering thanks to modules that simply slide into a base circuit board. The base board has slots for up to four interchangeable modules; there’s also a variant that has room for a Spark controller in addition to the modules.

These modules are advanced enough for complex projects. For instance, the microcontroller module is Arduino compatible and has six i/O ports. The whole system also integrates easily with single board computers, and you can daisy chain multiple Modulo boards.

Snap into Kickstarter and pledge at least $69 (USD) to get a Modulo kit as a reward.

Microsoft Edge Browser Won’t Immediately Be Released For Other Platforms

ms-edge-build2015-02

It came to light a few months ago that Microsoft was working on a brand new web browser that is being built from scratch to replace the ailing and ill-fated Internet Explorer. That browser now has a name, Microsoft Edge, and it will be released alongside Windows 10 later this year. There has been speculation that Microsoft might bring Edge to other platforms like OS X, iOS and Android but the company has made it clear that Edge won’t immediately be available for rival platforms.

The company has never completely denied the possibility that this is never going to happen, it leaves the door open, saying that it’ll wait and see whether it makes sense to port Edge to other platforms.

Microsoft cleared this up during one of its Build Tour events on which it has embarked upon following Build 2015. At one of these events it was asked if Edge would be released for platforms other than Windows, Microsoft says it’ll wait and see before making a decision.

There’s a reason why many are asking this question, Microsoft has recently ramped up its software assault on rival platforms by releasing key apps and services across multiple platforms so it’s natural to assume that it may do the same with Edge.

As it stands, Microsoft is devoting all of its time and resources to get Edge ready for Windows in time for the summer release. After that, the Redmond company will see if it makes sense to go down this road.

T-Mobile Releases Lollipop For Galaxy Tab S 10.5

Reports are streaming in gradually that T-Mobile is rolling out a new software update for the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 today. Folks who own the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 on T-Mobile should keep their eyes open for a new software update today because the carrier is rolling out Android 5.0 for this tablet. As is the case with all updates these days, it’s being rolled out over-the-air and will be downloaded and installed on the device itself.

The carrier isn’t the only one in the country to release said update for this update. About a week back AT&T released the very same Lollipop update for the Galaxy Tab S 10.5.

People who own the LTE version of the carrier have had to wait for a considerably long time given the fact that Samsung released the Lollipop update for this tablet’s Wi-Fi only variant back in March.

Nevertheless, now that it’s finally rolling out on T-Mobile, users are unlikely to be interested in the timing because they’ll be looking forward to test all that’s new in Android 5.0.

T-Mobile has rolled out software version T807TUVU1BOE1 which will update the device to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop and bring all of the features that are associated with Lollipop. The download weighs in at 1.1GB.

The U.S. President Finally Gets Own Twitter Account

president-obama

The @POTUS, or President of the United States, Twitter account has finally gone live today. Previously the sitting president, Barack Obama, used to interact through @WhiteHouse or his personal @BarackObama account. Now finally there’s a separate account for @POTUS which will most certainly be taken over by the person who gets President Obama’s job in 2016.

The inaugural tweet was sent out by President Obama himself, it read: “Hello, Twitter! It’s Barack. Really! Six years in, they’re finally giving me my own account.” As of this writing the account already has close to 300,000 followers.

Despite the president’s addiction to his BlackBerry, this tweet appears to have been sent using an iPhone, if TweetDeck is to be believed.

The White House explains in a blog post that the @POTUS twitter account is going to serve as a new way for the president to “engage directly with the American people,” with tweets coming exclusively from the person occupying the Oval Office.

Once the current president bows out the account will most likely pass on to whoever wins next year’s election. All the people need to know is that tweets posted through the account will be coming directly from the incumbent president.

So now you have one more account to follow.
