amazon-fire-tv-review-023

Comcast has finally opened its door for Amazon’s streaming hardware, the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. The company said in a blog post that customers are now allowed to access their pervasive access apps— Showtime Anytime and HBO Go — on the Amazon Fire TV and Stick.

Few months ago, Comcast reached a similar agreement with Roku. It also allowed access to TV Everywhere apps for various other TV-connected platforms such as the Apple TV, Xbox One and Google Chromecast. The company supports majority of HBO and Showtime listings through its Video-on-demand platform, live streaming and Xfinity TV Go app. Many web browsers such as Android, iOS, and Amazon devices are currently supporting Comcast’s Xfinity TV Go app. Although company has not revealed any plan to provide Xfinity TV Go app’s access to TV-connected platforms.

In the latest blog post, it has also confirmed that it supports over 90 networks on 18 devices, it wrote, “We will continue to grow as new technologies and platforms emerge.” Matt Strauss, Comcast Cable’s EVP and GM, video services, also said in the post, “Our customers have access to one of the largest content libraries in the world and we’ll continue to make opportunities available for them to watch when and where they want,”

There is still no word on support for Sony’s Playstation 3 and 4, however, with today’s move we can expect Comcast to extend the services to the Playstation franchise as well.

Android 5.1.1 Released For Nexus 5, Nexus 4 And Nexus 9 LTE

android-5.0-lollipop

Not too long ago Google released the Android 5.1.1 update for the Nexus 9, Nexus 10 and the Nexus Player set-top box. It was only a matter of time before this update was released for the smartphones, and the LTE variant of the new Nexus tablet. Today the company is rolling out this bug fixing update for the Nexus 5, Nexus 4 and the Nexus 9 LTE.

It’s an incremental update for all intents and purposes so don’t expect to see any drastic changes once you’ve downloaded it. Sprint revealed it about a week back that Android 5.1.1 will be rolling out soon for the Nexus 5 and now it’s finally here.

The latest software update for Nexus 5, Nexus 4 and the Nexus 9 LTE brings stability and performance improvements as well as crucial bug fixes for the system.

Since that’s all that it has, the update weighs under 25MB and shouldn’t take long at all to download. Nevertheless, it would be best to download it over a Wi-Fi connection with ample juice left in the battery.

It shouldn’t take long for the over-the-air roll out to complete for all users in all markets, those who simply can’t wait can grab the firmware files from Google’s developer website and flash it manually themselves.

Twitch Finally Lets You Watch Past Broadcasts On Mobile

twitch-vod

Twitch quickly gained popularity to become the go-to destination for gamers who want to broadcast their gaming sessions and for people who want to view these broadcasts. The service is now available on multiple gaming platforms and through mobile apps lets users view the streams even on smartphones and tablets. Twitch today announced that its apps will now allow you to watch past broadcasts on-demand.

This is a feature that the community has repeatedly requested the Amazon-owned company to roll out and it has finally followed through. VODs on mobile will let you watch highlights and past broadcasters from all Twitch partners as well as broadcasters whose videos are HLS enabled.

You can locate available VODs on a channel’s Activity Feed, to get there either tap the Activity Feed icon located on the player if you’re watching a live channel. If you’re in the Following directory or Search page tapping on any offline channel will take you to the Activity Feed directly.

Twitch also says that with this latest release it has patched a possible security vulnerability in its Android app, this change will require users on Android to download and install a completely new app instead of just updating the one they already have.

Users on Android have to delete the old app first and download the new one from here, iOS users update the app as they normally would.
