4 Tricks To Help You Go Gray Effortlessly And Confidently

Whether you’re barely 30 years old or well into your 60s, growing gray hair is a part of life. While many women choose to cover up their silver strands, it can be quite empowering to ditch the dye and go gray naturally.

But with parts of your hair seemingly going grey faster than others, what’s the best way to go grey naturally? We asked Giovanni Vaccaro, the creative director of on-demand beauty service GlamSquad, for styling tips and tricks that will help anyone embrace silver strands with fierceness.

1. Get a new haircut.

Instead of reaching for the tweezers to pluck your gray hair, Vaccaro suggests liberating yourself with a haircut. “When choosing an ideal cut and style, you should be more focused on your face shape than your hair color,” he says. But if you’re looking for a big change, why not go all out with a short crop.

2. Try balayage.

This “hair painting” technique is a low-maintenance way to grow out your gray hairs without having to sacrifice length, according to Vaccaro. Your colorist can create a natural look by using a brush to “sweep” on other colors that will help blend your grays, from the root to the ends.

3. Intensify shine and lock in moisture with the right haircare products.

For white grays… Vaccaro recommends violet shampoos like Pravana Pure Light Sulfate-Free Brightening Shampoo to give you a brighter white and neutralize the brassy, yellow tones.

For silver grays… focus on hydrating. “Silver hair is more likely to be coarse and dry so it needs more moisture,” says Vaccaro. “Masque Densité by Kérastase is a high-moisture treatment that helps restore resiliency and shine to graying hair.”

4. Switch up your makeup.

Wearing dark, smokey eye makeup and red lipstick with gray hair can make your complexion appear dull and washed out. To accentuate your grays and warm up you skin, add a pop of color with rosy blushes and pink lip colors. And you can’t go wrong with neutral eyeshadows in navy, plum or taupe to brighten up your eyes.

Bone Thugs-n-Harmony Rapper Helps Driver In Diabetic Shock

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — Rapper Layzie Bone of the Grammy Award-winning group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony helped a driver who went into diabetic shock and nearly ran into the performer’s vehicle in Wyoming.

Casper news station KCWY-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1R28xfi ) that Steven “Layzie Bone” Howse was heading to a concert in Riverton on Saturday to promote his new album “Perfect Timing” when he saw a car swerving across the roadway. It spun to a stop in front of the rapper’s vehicle. Layzie Bone told the station that he rushed to the man and offered him apples and oranges to help his blood sugar while they waited for paramedics.

The rapper says he was scared for the man and glad he could help.

Wyoming Highway Patrol Lt. Chris Schell says a medical emergency causing erratic driving is rare.

3 Reasons Your Phone Is Killing Your Social Life

I’m driving down Robertson Boulevard in Los Angeles, and if you’ve ever been here you’ll know what a crazy road it is. It’s a narrow two-lane street, which should clearly be one lane. People park in the right hand lane, oblivious to getting out of their cars into traffic!

Today, on this road of madness, I experienced another example of phones turning people into mindless robots.

Here’s what happened, and three reasons you need to put your phone down before you’re transformed into Mr or Mrs. Oblivious… (or worse):

1. It Makes You Switch “Off “

As I was trying to navigate the credit-card-width margin between cars (and EVERYONE driving way too fast), I see a woman in her car on the phone. She just couldn’t put the thing down. It’s as if it was pinned to her ear. Suddenly, she opened the car door, almost hitting my front bumper. Luckily, I was hyper alert and managed to swerve out the way.

Even then, she looked at me like I was crazy. It was as if she was completely tuned out of life. She was oblivious, but then most people are nowadays.

2. You Miss The Details of Life

People are walking around these days oblivious to the details of their lives. The funny thing is, the answers to most of life’s problems are found in the details. I see examples of it all the time. People talking, supposedly engaged in conversation, but not really listening because they’re too busy reading something on their phone.

When you pay attention to life, you always have things to talk about. Makes it infinitely easier when you meet someone you want to flirt with. You don’t have to “think” of something to say, you’re participating in the experience of life. When the thing you most engage with is your phone, interacting with another human being feels foreign.

Most of us are so wrapped up in our own world and the epicenter of it is our phone.
Recently, a friend of mine met a woman online he really liked. They emailed, texted, had some chemistry on the phone so they decided to meet for lunch.

But when they met for lunch, she showed up with three phones she was engaging with in one way or another.

For him it was a non-starter. I mean if she brought three phones on their first date, can you a imagine what being in a relationship with her would be like?

3. It’s Addictive

I swear you’d think people live inside their phones. If they had one wish they’d jump into their phone and exist within their imaginary world 24/7. It’s addictive and it’s dangerous.

If you live life through your experiences, you’ll probably be happier than living through your smartphone. People who smoke say they feel like cigarettes are their friend. Like they’re always there for them when things get tough. But we all know cigarettes kill you.

It’s the same thing with your phone. If you take it too far, and you’re not paying attention to your life, you never know what might happen. And the adverse is true: Imagine if you put the phone down. How much more of real life would you experience… how many more real connections and meaningful relationships would you make?

You’ll never know unless you try.

Every day there are people cutting you off in traffic because they’re not paying attention. Bumping into you in person or ignoring you because they’re so engrossed in what’s happening on their phone.
It’s rude and it’s dangerous, but society has become this way. We have become less aware. We’ve become involved with ourselves and we don’t care about other people.

When you drive, drive. When you walk, walk. The more you observe, the more you live. The more you notice, the more involved you get and the more opportunities you have to meet people. The next time someone honks at you, don’t give them the finger.

Wave to them and thank them for waking your stupid ass up at a stop light because you were too busy texting somebody or checking your Facebook feed. The next time you open your car door, check to make sure there’s no traffic coming. The next time you cross the street, make sure you’re looking both ways. We’ve totally forgotten about things that we learned as kids because we’ve become so absorbed in our phones.

Does Your Child Care Provider Have at Least a High School Diploma?

0-5 – The critical years

The science is clear; Children begin learning from birth, developing their vision, hearing, language, and cognitive functions very fast in the early years of life and especially in the first year (as seen below).

2015-05-20-1432094790-1655868-HumanBrainDevelopment.jpg

Children who receive high quality care in the first few years of life score higher in academic and cognitive tests — even a decade after. (National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Report).

Who is looking after your child?
For 11 million children in America each week, the child care setting is the primary channel through which they receive the stimulation and interaction they need to develop their brain. On average, these children spend 36 hours a week in child care.

Unfortunately the key providers of this critical type of care and support are paid an average of only $21,490 (in 2013), making child care one of the lowest paying professional fields.

This makes it hard for child care centers to recruit child care professionals who have the requisite education credentials. To worsen the issue, thirty-one states require only a high school diploma or less for child care center lead teachers and forty-one states require a high school diploma or less for regulated family child care providers.
2015-05-20-1432094900-5132574-childcarestats.001.jpg

But there is hope.
With the rise of open source education, massively open online courses, and internet access in libraries, it is possible for child care professionals to develop their skills and merit higher compensation.

Providing child care is one of the most complex tasks (and as we have seen the most under-recognized). A child care provider needs to ensure the child’s safety, health, nutrition, emotional, physical well-being as well as stimulate language and thinking abilities.
The latter is becoming more and more important as the total amount of information enveloping us grows at a faster and faster rate.

The skills that will be needed will be the higher-order cognitive traits of creativity, curiosity, persistence (or grit) instead of simply rote memory skills.

So what can be done?
As the Founder and CEO of a science education nonprofit, Iridescent, and a strong believer in open-source technology-based education, I am curious to see if there could be some cross-sector collaborations between for profit institutions that train child care providers, STEM education nonprofit organizations and ed-tech startups looking to “disrupt” a particular field, similar to a partnership we are launching with Town + Country, a nanny agency. Our initial goal is to develop and provide a 15-20 hour training to child care providers that would introduce them to design thinking, creative problem solving, identifying and addressing gender biases, developing a growth mindset (instead of a fixed one). But there is so much more to explore and develop!

There is much evidence to show that it is time we move beyond rote repetition of facts, letters, colors and numbers. The early years are the critical years and it is in these years that child care providers can play a pivotal role. If we come together to provide open, high quality resources for these professionals, we will set up 11 million American children to reach their full potential — with happiness and contentment.

Christina Aguilera Releases New Ballad, 'Anywhere But Here' For 'Finding Neverland' Album

Christina Aguilera takes on Neverland in her latest song “Anywhere But Here.”

The singer released the lyric video for the new song on Tuesday, which is Aguilera’s reimagining of the opening song from Broadway musical “Finding Neverland.” Matthew Morrison of “Glee” sings the original song in the stage production, which follows the story of author J.M. Barrie, the man behind Peter Pan.

Aguilera is just one of the many musical names contributing to the Broadway show’s concept album. “Finding Neverland the Album” also features music from Zendaya, John Legend, Jennifer Lopez and Trey Songz, Nick Jonas, and more. The album comes out on June 9.

Credit Card Rewards Redemption: Value vs Points

2015-05-20-1432153079-7661978-Rewardchips1.png

Points. Miles. Cash back. Rewards. What’s the difference?

Understanding your credit card rewards can be tough! Those that play the rewards game and win, like ThePointsGuy.com and FrequentFlyerGuy.com, will often reference the importance of getting the most value from your points or miles in order to get more out of them than the typical 1 point=1 cent. Here we provide one example on what credit card reward experts mean when they stress value over (number of) points or miles using the Chase Freedom and Chase Sapphire Preferred credit cards as examples.

To most people, the Chase Freedom is just another cash back credit card that offers the typical $100 sign up bonus and a basic 1% back plus 5% back in different rotating categories. You might be shocked to learn that receiving cash back from your Chase Freedom is actually the worst value when you consider all the ways you could redeem your points. If you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred in conjunction with the Chase Freedom, you can instantly combine the Ultimate Rewards points you earn on both accounts and redeem them in a number of valuable ways.

If you take the current sign up bonuses on both cards and combine them, you can quickly see why you should never redeem your Ultimate Rewards points for cash back.

Chase Freedom

  • $100 bonus (10,000 points) after spending500 in the first 3 months from account opening.
  • $25 bonus (2,500 points) after you add an authorized user and they make a purchase in the first 3 months from account opening.

Chase Sapphire Preferred

  • 40,000 points (400 cash back) after spending4,000 in the first 3 months from account opening.
  • 5,000 points (50 cash back) after you add an authorized user and they make a purchase in the first 3 months from account opening.

After including the points you earn on the necessary minimum spend requirements, you will have a grand total of (at least) 62,000 Ultimate Rewards points. Now, if you went the typical cash back route like the Chase Freedom advertises, these 62,000 points would be worth $620 dollars. But if you wanted to truly maximize the value of your Ultimate Rewards Points, you can get much more than 1 cent per point.

Your next best option for redemption would simply be to redeem your points for travel through the Ultimate Rewards portal and receive a 20% discount. With this approach, your 62,000 points would increase in value to $744. You just made an extra $124!

However, the true power of the Ultimate Rewards points is unleashed when you elect to transfer your points out to travel partners. Chase Ultimate Rewards points are one of the select few rewards currencies that allow you to transfer out to travel partners on a 1 to 1 ratio. Chase travel partners include 6 airlines (United, Southwest, British Airways, Singapore KrisFlyer, Korean Air and Virgin Atlantic), 4 hotels (Hyatt, Marriott, IHG, and Ritz-Carlton), and Amtrak. The great thing about transferring to travel partners is that because their redemption programs all have different guidelines and point valuations, you can often get two or three times the value of your points than if you were to redeem them for cash back! Although it may require some research, it’s well worth your time.

Let’s use United Airlines as an example. If you were to transfer your Ultimate Rewards points to United’s frequent flyer program, you would be able to book a round trip flight from anywhere in the US to anywhere in Europe for just 60,000 points. If you live on the West Coast, this would otherwise cost you around $1,400!

So you tell me which you would prefer to receive: $600 in cash or a $1,400 plane ticket. To those who have absolutely no interest in travel, perhaps the cash back would be a more favorable choice. As for me, I’ll stick with the free vacation Europe and continue receiving more than twice the value for my points!
