13 Shopping Struggles That Only Short Men Would Understand

short dude

It’s no secret that men 5’8″ and under get the short end of the stick — especially when it comes to buying clothes. Pants always pool on the ground, sleeves are way too long and shoes are far too big.

Although there are a few stores that are starting to cater to shorter guys, many retailers haven’t made the necessary strides. To really get to the root of the problem, we asked our Facebook community: What are your biggest pet peeves as short male shoppers?

We collected some of our favorite answers that perfectly illustrate the 13 most frustrating things men 5’8″ and under experience while shopping.

1. “Sports apparel — apparently the standard-sized football jersey is meant to be worn as a muumuu.” — Facebook user Marc Ki

2. “I feel like all pants look like parachute pants. I found a perfect-fitting suit in the boys’ section at Kohl’s last year. I’m 5’5″ with my ego in the morning.” — Facebook user Trevor McGuire

3. “My husband has an awful time finding pants that fit. They are always too long and too baggy. Why don’t they have short, average, and long pants like they do for women’s sizing?” — Facebook user Melissa Missi Quon Huber

4. “5’3″ checking in. It’s almost impossible to get shorts that fit in length. Shorts come way past my knees.” — Facebook user Timothy Camus, Jr.

5. “‘One size fits all’ socks — that’s BS! I wear size 8 shoes and 99 percent of dress socks are too big. How can you label socks ‘shoe size 6-12’?????” — Facebook user Paul Barras

6. “Finding shirts without cartoon characters or childish designs.” — Facebook user Raymond D. Drayer III

7. “Pants are difficult to find. I have to pay more for the tailored slimmer fits since I am short and thin. A generic 30×30 at a department store makes me look like MC Hammer.” — Facebook user Carl Andrew

8. “I know a guy from India who has all his clothes sent to him from home, because in order to find stuff that fits him here, he has to go to the ‘boys’ section of most department stores.” — Facebook user Bruce Alan Wilson

9. “Every store is sold out of small shirts. Always.” — Facebook user Zach Snow

10. “No store anywhere stocks pants that will fit someone 5’6″ or shorter, who is not also stout.” — Facebook user Warren Buckingham

11. “Having jeans hemmed is an expense and the hem never looks quite right.” — Facebook user David Wheeler

12. “Some store employees treat you like one size fits all.” — Facebook user Douglas Dockey

13. “Being that 5’8″ is the mean/average and [the] most common height in the world, clothing stores always stock 3 times as many clothes for guys who are 6’4″ and 300 lbs.” — Facebook user John Bryant

Minecraft Is Most Watched Game On YouTube

minecraft-videoWhen it comes to YouTube, you know that there are millions and millions of videos to choose from. The thing is, which particular video should you spend your time to watch? While the common answer that would spring to mind would be cat videos, you might be surprised to hear that Minecraft happens to be the most watched game where YouTube is concerned.

Why are Minecraft videos just so darned addictive? With the virtual Lego game being the most searched-for term, right behind “music”, on YouTube, figures from YouTube video research firms Newzoo and Octoloy did show how Minecraft material managed to rake up over 3.9 billion views on YouTube in March 2015 – and this was for that particular month only.

Basically, Minecraft happens to be a game that one can get easily obsessed with, and whenever you are knee-deep in something, you would want to do all that you can in order to learn more about it, and watching YouTube videos happen to be one of the methods in this day and age. Having said that, just how many hours a day do you dedicate to watching YouTube videos, and out of that figure, have you allocated any to the viewing of Minecraft videos?

Combo Breaker Can Crack Combo Locks In Half A Minute

combo-breakerWhat can you do in 30 seconds? While I can think of some really casual stunts like picking my nose, this unique and diminutive 3D printed robot, known as the Combo Breaker, would have been a whole lo more productive as it claims to be able to crack a combination lock in that allocated amount of time.

Hacker Samy Kamkar (who also hacked the likes of the SkyJack drone) did publish on his website not only the blueprint, but also software code as well for a 3D-printable Arduino-based lock-opening robot that has been dubbed as the “Combo Breaker.” Using the Combo Breaker is a snap – all that you need to do is to attach it to any of millions of Master Lock combination locks, turn it on, and it will start to get to work. How does it weave its magic? It will pinpoint a Master Lock security vulnerability that was recently discovered in order to open the lock, taking a maximum of five minutes without the need for any human interaction.

Kamkar mentioned, “The machine pretty much brute-forces the lock for you. You attach it, leave it, and it does its thing.”

Sounds like a pretty interesting project, and this just goes to show how a security chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

Attorney Jay Clothier's Crude Domestic Violence Joke On T-Shirt Sparks Uproar

Michigan attorney Jay Clothier is under fire for creating a T-shirt with the name and URL of his law firm on one side and a crude joke about domestic violence on the back.

“You say domestic violence I say spousal discipline,” the lawyer’s shirt proclaims.

“It’s a deliberate attack on women,” Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell told reporters during a Tuesday press conference.

“It is the marketing of violence, plain and simple,” Pickell said.

The sheriff had initially posted a photo of the shirt to his Facebook page on Monday and said it is “actively used as an advertisement” by Flint attorney Clothier.

ROBERT PICKELL’S FACEBOOK POST (Story Continues Below)

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

I want your opinion! The t-shirt below is being actively used as an advertisement by a local attorney. I have fought…

Posted by Robert J. Pickell on Monday, May 11, 2015

“This t-shirt is not in poor taste, it is down-right dangerous,” Pickell said on Facebook. “It markets violence. It says it is OK to hit a woman and if you get arrested in the process … this attorney has your back.”

According to Abc12.com, the shirt has angered the YWCA and the Mid-Michigan women’s advocacy group.

“It’s not only an off-color bit of humor, but we see it as an attack on women and the pain that has been inflicted on them,” YWCA Director Heidi McAra told the news station.

Pickell said he plans to lodge a complaint against Clothier with the Michigan Bar Association.

Clothier acknowledges designing the shirt, but said he did so years ago and never distributed it or used it for advertising purposes.

“A defendant of mine had made that comment,” Clothier told The Huffington Post of the T-shirt’s slogan. “Obviously, it was perverse and sick, but I figured it was his perspective and somewhat provocative, which could get people talking about the issue of domestic violence.”

JAY CLOTHIER: (Story Continues Below)

Clothier said he “never intended to hurt anyone” and ultimately decided not to distribute the shirt.

“I showed it to my friends and they said, ‘Dude, you’ll get crucified,'” he said. “So I opted against using it.”

Clothier said he understands how the intended message of the shirt could be misconstrued. However, he said he is also concerned about the timing of the sheriff’s press conference, which was held nearly 10 years after the shirt was made.

“I think it is retaliation,” Clothier said.

Pickell, according to Mlive.com, held the press conference just days after a preliminary hearing in the case of former Genesee County Sheriff Deputy Gerald Parks, who Clothier represents.

Parks, according to the media outlet, is charged in connection with the 2012 assault of an inmate at the Genesee County Jail. The former deputy is also reportedly involved in a lawsuit against the sheriff’s department, in which he alleges he was retaliated against for testimony he gave during a union collective bargaining-related arbitration hearing that was critical of the sheriff’s department administrators.

“I believe the sheriff is attacking this shirt now because I am representing Parks,” Clothier said. “He is retaliating and attempting to smear me and hurt me economically.”

Pickell did not respond to a request for comment from HuffPost. In an interview with Minbcnews.com, he denied his actions are in retaliation.

ONE OF CLOTHIER’S OTHER SHIRTS: (Story Continues Below)

Clothier said he regrets making the shirt, which he calls a “stupid idea.” He also said it is one of many he has made over the years. Others include:

“Take the fifth we’ll bring the tonic.”

“I went to court with Clothier and it was a riot.” (Printed after a courtroom brawl)

“Reasonable doubt lives here.” (Attributed to Casey Anthony’s former attorney, Jose Baez)

“I make lawyers needles twitch.” (Printed for a polygraph examiner)

“Steve worked on my hard drive.” (Printed for a computer forensics specialist)

“If there are certain things that are happening in the law, I’ll make one for social commentary — to create dialog,” Clothier said.

The attorney said he is considering a civil suit against the sheriff.

“My last name is Clothier,” he said. “I used to work in retail and I’m now a lawyer. The sheriff wants to talk about shirts and I want to talk about suits. You can’t make this stuff up.”

The Not-So-Secret Sexual Healing Underground For Women

There is a not so secret, underground of sexual healing for women happening now in the United States and around the world. Let’s face it; sex may run us and it may very well be the gateway for us humans to be whole, creative and happy. Sex is also complicated and hard to to navigate. It’s the one part of us that is very difficult to isolate. Blame it on our wiring. Sex is physical, emotional and psychological. And especially for women with constantly shifting bodies and societal pressures, sexuality can be a land mine

Given that sex is such a charged and vital part of our identities, I am amazed that after centuries of analyzing, opining and investigating, we still do such a lousy job supporting and educating people around their relationship with their sexuality.

I know that now, but when I was in the midst of my own sexual discovery, I had no idea that what was plaguing me had been plaguing women throughout recorded history. My story is not so unusual. I didn’t know that when I was in it. One day I woke up and said, “What’s wrong with me?” After 20 or more years of an enviably successful marriage, I felt disconnected and broken. I overate, overworked and found all sorts of ways to sublimate an unnamable yearning that governed almost every minute of every day. In another time, oh, say, Ancient Greece or Victorian England, the professionals would have said I had a bad case of “Hysteria.”

I wasn’t sure what to do. Countless years of talk therapy ran me smack into a brick wall. Something had to give. The more I thought about it, obsessed really, the clearer it became that I needed to feel beautiful in my body. I wanted to feel sensually alive, sexually vibrant. It had been so long since I had connected to that part of me that I completely forgot it was there. Yet that desire, once I could name it, bubbled to the surface and refused go back into hiding. Instinctively, I reached for touch.

I didn’t set out to ‘cure’ symptoms — the allegedly usual things that afflict mid-life women like low libido, pelvic pain or wildly uncomfortable intercourse. Instead, and far more common, I was seeking to understand my own sexuality and connect with my body. I fell through some kind of a wormhole into California sex therapy history circa 1960’s, ’70s and ’80s. I got naked and began a journey into the land of somatic (a.k.a. “Body Based”) therapy. I climbed on a massage table and got touched — everywhere. I looked in the mirror at my most private parts. I talked about my buried, ‘shameful’ desires. It was terrifying, explosive, healing, fabulous and occasionally funny. I discovered that I didn’t need fixing at all. What I needed was help and guidance figuring out my sexuality, allowing in pleasure and finding fulfillment. I found out that by being seen and honored when I was my most vulnerable, allowing a trusted professional who asks for nothing except to hold my most intimate self was life-changing.

I certainly didn’t have any clue that I tumbled onto the remains and resurrection of what was known in the 20th Century as “Humanistic Sex Therapy.” Before that, it was called other things.

What I was doing stretches as far back as Ancient Greece in “the medical literature.” The Greek physician Galen (c. 129-c. 200), historically, one of the most influential writers on medical subjects, tackled the subject of women’s unmet sexual desire and pronounced it a disease. He coined the term “Hysteria” (Greek for “Suffering Uterus”) to describe the anxiety, irritability, sexual fantasies, pelvic heaviness and excessive vaginal lubrication in sexually deprived or particularly passionate women. In other words, these women were suffering from sexual desire unfulfilled! He coined the term “Hysteria”

Moi? Sexually deprived? Particularly passionate? Me and how many more! Just raise your hands. We’re legion.

His prescription was sex! He often recommended genital massage to be done by midwives. Jump forward several hundred years and “Hysteria” is still with us and doctors are still treating the disease with hands-on genital massage. The occupational injury to their wrists that many doctors suffered in this time-consuming treatment spurred George Taylor, M.D. to invent the vibrator in 1869.

Here we are again — with the culture beginning to get interested in humanistic body based experiences. It never really went away. It just went underground (except in Northern California) where it had been percolating away. And that’s where I found it in 1992, with my own ‘hysterical’ exploration of sexuality. It was there, in the land of the Golden Gate Bridge where a breed of practitioners known as “Sexological Body Workers,” or Somatic Sex Educators were born.

These somatic sex educators are certified in the state of California, have a professional organization and standards of practice. They provide hands-on (one way touch provided while fully clothed) therapeutic full body touch for clients with the purpose of supporting them to find a healthy relationship with their bodies and their sexuality through touch. Programs to certify Sexological Body Workers can now be found throughout Europe.

The humanistic model of supporting people in their sexuality has almost vanished, but like a species on the endangered list, it is beginning to resurface.

Ryan Reynolds Shares First Photo With Baby James

Ryan Reynolds is putting his new Instagram account to good use by finally sharing a photo of baby James. Sort of.

The new dad shared the first snapshot of his daughter, who was born late last year, on Thursday. In the photo, James’ hand can be seen gripping her dad’s thumb.

“Thumb wrestling isn’t always fair. Curiously, my hand is the small one,” he wrote.

Although Reynolds did not share a photo of the baby’s face, Blake Lively told Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan that she “looks like her daddy” during an April episode of “Live! with Kelly and Michael.”

The actress also regrammed her husband’s pic on Thursday, captioning it: ” …and with that, my husband @vancityreynolds joins Insta.”

Are You On Top Of Your Health?

This past Sunday, Mother’s Day, kicked off National Women’s Health Week, an annual event that is led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health. It should serve as a wake-up call — if you are lucky enough not to have had a health concern in your own life — to see your primary care physician and your gynecologist and make your appointments for whatever you need to do around your own health.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, heart disease is the leading cause of death among women, followed by cancer. National Women’s Health Week is a reminder for women all over the country – no matter their age – to take care of themselves. If we don’t, who will?

Which reminds me – is it me, or is cancer so much more prevalent these days than it was a few years ago? It seems not a month goes by anymore without me hearing about a friend or acquaintance who was recently diagnosed. Whereas five years ago, I knew a friend of a friend who was battling cancer; now I know several women who are facing this challenge in their lives. I don’t like these statistics growing so quickly.

As a mother, I scheduled my children’s yearly physicals, eye exams, cleanings and X-rays at the dentist like clockwork but I have to admit when it came to my own health, I could have been and even now should be more diligent. We all let life get in the way and don’t always make ourselves a priority – now is the time to change this. As soon as I finish writing this, I’m calling my family doctor for a checkup. Remind your friends as well. Be a real friend and show them how much you care about them. After I make my own call, I’m calling my best friends and making sure they’re on top of this.

Nothing, but nothing, is as important as your health. As the mother of two children and now a grandmother of six, I know that I want to be around for a long time to come!

OneNote For Mac Gets Support For Audio Notes

onenote-mac-audio-notes

It has been over a year since Microsoft released OneNote for Mac and since then the company has been frequently releasing updates for the app to add new functionality, which helped OneNote become one of the top 10 free apps on the Mac App Store. Continuing with that mantra, Microsoft today released a new update for OneNote for Mac which brings the ability to add audio notes.

Microsoft says that this is one of the most frequently requested features by the community, particularly students, who want to have the ability to record and save audio notes in OneNote.

The updated app will also allow users to recover notes that they might have deleted accidently, and view equations created in OneNote for Windows.

Recording audio notes in the app is very easy, just click on Inset and select Audio Recording and the app will start recording. The app can be used to record meetings, conference calls, classes, interviews, what have you.

Any notes the user types while recording will automatically be synchronized to the audio, so users can open the context menu and do a Control-Click to select Play Audio From Here if they can’t quite figure out what the person was talking about when they typed that particular note. The Add Bookmark button can be used to flag an important point that the user might want to come back to later.

OneNote for Mac is available as a free download from the Mac App Store.
