A group of scientists at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital have scanned around 800 mummies of animals from ancient Egypt. Of these 800 mummies, the team found that approximately 1/3rd did not contain full animal bodies. No bones, that is to say – and sometimes no animal remains whatsoever. No cats, birds, rodents, or crocodiles. Was this a case of … Continue reading
Many midsize SUVs so popular for their perceived safety higher up than other road users are actually underperforming in key crash conditions, a new batch of IIHS testing concludes. The segment, which borrows the styling cues and elevated cabin of full-size SUVs but with a smaller footprint more suited to urban driving, has become increasingly in-demand, particularly among young families. … Continue reading

If you happen to be someone who is fond of being on time, then surely you would have a plethora of devices that are able to keep track of the time without missing a beat. While regular timepieces and the digital clock on your smartwatch or smartphone would work just fine, there are others who would prefer something that is more accurate, such as an atomic clock. The $149.95 24″ Outdoor Lighted Atomic Clock might be worth a look then if you happen to fall into such a category.
The 24″ Outdoor Lighted Atomic Clock, as its name suggests, is an oversized outdoor wall clock which will be able to maintain its unerring accuracy thanks to the radio clock transmitter that is located in Fort Collins, Colorado. Apart from boasting of glowing hour and minute hands, there will be a quartet of LEDs which illuminate the face whenever its light sensor indicate dark conditions. 2.75″ high Roman numerals let you read the time easily from up to 30′ away in the daytime, while there is also an integrated thermometer onto the face which indicates the current temperature, in the presence of an adjacent hygrometer that provides the relative humidity reading. The 24″ Outdoor Lighted Atomic Clock is capable of providing accurate time across the entire lower 48 United States, and it will never gain or lose a second in 60 million years.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity, released last year, was set in Paris and following that flirtation with the City of Lights, the next title is going to cross the channel and set up shop in London. Ubisoft today formally announced Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, the new title is going to be set in the Industrial Revolution-era London in 1868. Some of the reports that we had received prior to Ubisoft’s official confirmation have turned out to be true.
Just yesterday we reported that Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate will let you play as a woman and Ubisoft confirms that the title features two protagonists, Jacob and Evie Frye, brother and sister.
Instead of being developed at Ubisoft Montreal where AC titles are usually developed, Ubisoft’s Quebec City studio is behind AC: Syndicate. The studio says that this will be the fastest title in the franchise.
Players will be able to enlist street gangs for help during their quests and will find that the new title focuses more on brass knuckles and hidden weapons. The criminal underworld of London is a major driving force in this game.
Like its predecessor, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate will only be available on PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, as well as the PC. Ubisoft has said that AC: Syndicate will be released on October 23rd, 2015.

Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is among the few Samsung tablets available on AT&T. Since it’s being sold through a carrier there are the usual limitations when it comes to software updates. Carriers tend to take their time before they roll out an update that’s already been released directly by the company. Same goes for the Galaxy Tab S 10.5, which has finally received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update today from AT&T.
The country’s second largest carrier has certainly taken its time to roll out this update for the tablet. Samsung released the Lollipop update for the Wi-Fi only model of the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 back in March.
The wait is finally over for folks who own this tablet on AT&T. Android 5.0.2 is rolling out now over-the-air, build T807AUCU1BOD4, coming in at 1147MB.
All features and improvements included in Lollipop will be present on the tablet once it’s updated, this includes the Material Design user interface, enhanced notifications, performance improvements and much more.
The update also adds additional animations to the update as well as the Device Protection feature which makes it obligatory for Google account credentials to be entered if a device is lost or stolen. It will remain locked even if it goes through a factory data reset.

Existing regulations mandate that cellphone towers in Los Angeles remain standing even after a major earthquake, it doesn’t matter whether or not they remain functional after disaster strikes. Now though The Los Angeles City Council has moved to make it obligatory for future free-standing cellphone towers to be built to the same seismic proof standards as public safety buildings and they must remain functional even after an earthquake.
The ordinance has been approved 11-0 but needs to return for another vote by the council. If it passes through the second reading the mayor has to sign it before it becomes law. It will not apply to existing cellphone towers in Los Angeles.
It’s imperative that towers remain functional after an earthquake since a communications blackout can delay emergency response time and put countless lives at risk.
LA’s last major update was nearly two decades ago, in 1994, and since then cellular and internet communications have become an “integral part of our society,” say officials in a city report.
The new rules will also not apply to towers that are attached to buildings, but they will be addressed when the city takes up possible seismic retrofitting requirements for buildings.
Prior to the vote, Councilman Bob Blumenfield said that the extra cost required to build the new cellphone towers up to these standards is going to be “marginal.”
Then again, you can’t put a price on life.
