Heroes Of The Storm Enters Into Open Beta

In the world of MOBAs, there are two that are dominating the scene at the moment – League of Legends and DotA 2. However Blizzard plans on competing with them with Heroes of the Storm, but whether or not they are successful remains to be seen. That being said if you are curious about the game and want to see if Blizzard has what it takes, you’re in luck.

The developer has recently announced that Heroes of the Storm has entered into open beta. What this means is that anyone can sign up for an account and start playing it. Prior to this, Blizzard had launched the game in Technical Alpha and Closed Beta phases where users had to be invited to participate, but now the door is pretty much open to all.

As Blizzard notes, the open beta is not necessarily indicative of what the final release will look like. There will still be changes and tweaks made to the game ahead of its official release, but presumably nothing too major will be changed so you should be able to get a pretty good idea of what the game will be like.

In the meantime as a quick recap, Blizzard had previously announced that the game will be officially released on the 2nd of June so if you want to start practicing ahead of its launch, now’s the time to do so.

Google Maps Hit With Racial Slurs And Vandalism

gmaps_washingtonBack in April, Google Maps came under fire for an image of the Android mascot taking a leak on the Apple logo. This was obviously not the work of Google themselves, but rather a user who took advantage of Google’s tools to add that to the maps. Following that stunt, it seems that more “hacks” have taken place recently.

According to a report by The Washington Post, it seems that if you were to navigate your way over to Washington, D.C. on the maps and type “n—- house” into the search bar, it will show you the White House. That racial slur is also used to associate with searching for Nairobi, Kenya.

Thankfully Google has since worked quickly to remove the results. According to a Google spokeswoman, “Some inappropriate results are surfacing in Google Maps that should not be, and we apologize for any offense this may have caused. Our teams are working to fix this issue quickly.”

To address the issue of the mascot, Google was forced to suspend the Map Maker editing tool while they worked on how to better catch inappropriate entries. Google is expected to make an announcement regarding the software come 27th of May. In the meantime this is not the first time Google’s services have been misappropriated, where previously search results were manipulated to display political statements.

Samsung Acknowledges Galaxy S6 Clear View Case Issue

s6 edge scratchA report last week revealed that Samsung’s Clear View case for the Galaxy S6 did not provide users with the protection it promised. In fact if anything, the case appeared to be the cause of several scratches appearing on the displays of the handset. For those wondering if there is a solution to this, you’re in luck.

According to an update from SamMobile, Samsung has since come forward and acknowledged the problem and stated that they are looking into this. It is unclear as to what will happen to users with scratched displays and if they are eligible for a return. Several XDA forum members have also confirmed that after contacting different branches of Samsung, the company is indeed acknowledging the problem at hand.

Now according to SamMobile who spoke to their local repairman, it seems that while Gorilla Glass 4 is a tough material, the top layer of the glass is a bit weak meaning that it is susceptible to being scratched which is very unfortunate. Now for those of you who have the Clear View case, your best bet is to place a screen protector now before any damage is done.

For those who are thinking about getting the Clear View case, perhaps you might want to hold off on your purchase for now until Samsung comes up with a solution for it. In the meantime have any of our readers been affected by this issue?

Swiss Bank UBS Pleading Guilty To Wire Fraud, Settles U.S. Legal Cases For $545 Million

BERLIN (AP) — Swiss bank UBS says it is pleading guilty to wire fraud and is paying $545 million to settle U.S. cases of market manipulation.

The bank said Wednesday that under the deal with U.S. authorities it will be granted conditional immunity from prosecution in a Department of Justice probe on the manipulation of foreign exchange rates. UBS AG said it was the first to report to the DOJ potential misconduct by banks in forex markets. It will however pay a $342 million fine to the Federal Reserve.

It will separately pay a $203 million fine to the DOJ for manipulating a key market interest rate called the London Interbank Offered Rate.

The bank said “the conduct of a small number of employees was unacceptable and we have taken appropriate disciplinary actions.”
