Samsung Galaxy S6 Handsets Cross The 10 Million Shipment Mark

galaxy-s6-vs-galaxy-s6-edge_01With the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, it showed that Samsung was headed in an interesting and new direction in terms of design and features, which is why it does not come as a surprise to learn that apparently Samsung has managed to ship over 10 million Galaxy S6 handsets to date.

This is according to Korean news outlet Yonhap News who claims that the combined shipping of both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have crossed the 10 million mark in terms of shipping. However we should note that this is just shipments and as we know, the amount of phones shipped is different from the amount of phones actually sold.

However it does indicate that there is a lot of demand for the handset so whether or not Samsung actually sold all 10 million handsets it’s still pretty impressive. That being said a report from last month revealed that the South Korean tech giant was actually planning on raising their sales estimates from 50 million to 70 million this year, and shipping 10 million units seems like a pretty good start.

In the meantime there are rumors floating about the Samsung could be thinking about launching the Galaxy Note 5 a little earlier than expected. We can’t be sure if that will affect the sales of Galaxy S6 handsets but for those longing for a larger display, the Galaxy Note 5 could be the device to watch out for.

John Chen Reiterates Belief That BlackBerry Will Be Profitable Again

john-chen-contextBlackBerry is definitely not the company that it once was. No longer are businesses clamouring to use the company’s technology and services to help with communications in the workplace. In fact the current trend appears to be BYOT in which employees are allowed to bring in and use whatever device they’re comfortable with.

Let’s not forget that Apple and Google have stepped up their enterprise efforts, so where does this leave BlackBerry? Speaking to Business Insider, the company’s CEO John Chen reiterated his belief that one day BlackBerry would be profitable again. This was in response to being asked as to why despite everything is BlackBerry continuing to churn out smartphones?

According to Chen, it is because BlackBerry fills a gap that other platforms do not, and it is one that they are capitalizing on. “I can only make iPhone so much more secure, but I can’t make it as secure as a BlackBerry device. If you look at the US Army, they’re still rolling out all BlackBerry. If I tell them there are no more phones, I lose that account. The question is how do you make phones profitable at the volume those people represent?”

Essentially what Chen seems to be suggesting is that BlackBerry phones are able to satisfy a niche market and that it is possible to become profitable based on that. Chen did not share details on how he would pull that off but at the very least he appears to be rather optimistic about BlackBerry’s future.

Microsoft Reportedly Wants A Minority Stake In Nokia HERE

microsoft__logoA report from last month revealed that Nokia was reportedly interested in selling off its HERE Maps division. So far we have heard rumors that a variety of companies are interested in the technology, ranging from your usual tech giants such as Apple and Google, to German carmakers, and even companies such as Uber who might find the technology beneficial.

That being said it seems that we can now add Microsoft to that list. This is according to a recent report from Bloomberg which revealed that Microsoft is apparently interested in Nokia’s HERE Maps technology as well. However instead of buying the company outright, Microsoft is said to be more interested as a minority shareholder. Microsoft’s reported interest in the company is intriguing as it was only last year that the sale of Nokia’s cellphone division to Microsoft was officially completed.

In the meantime the report also adds that other companies such as China’s Baidu are also reportedly interested in acquiring Nokia’s HERE Maps. It certainly sounds like this is heating up to be quite a hotly contested piece of technology but who gets to walk away with it is still pretty much up in the air, but hopefully it won’t be too long until we have a clear answer.

Oculus Has No Plans To Block Adult Content From Being Viewed

occulus-vr-03With live streaming platforms such as Twitch and Sony’s PlayRoom, all sorts of content can be streamed and while it was meant for gaming, there more enterprising users who ended up live streaming videos of themselves performing lewd acts which led to Twitch and Sony clamping down on these videos.

Now the question is while the Oculus Rift has been designed for gaming, what if users want to use it for more adult purposes? What’s the company’s stance on that? Well for those of you who believe that such content should not be blocked or censored, you’re in luck. According to a report from Variety, the company’s founder Palmer Luckey said that they have no plans to block adult content.

Luckey was quoted as saying during a panel at the Silicon Valley Virtual Reality Conference, “The rift is an open platform. We don’t control what software can run on it, and that’s a big deal.” Of course whether or not developers or companies take advantage of the technology to build adult content that uses virtual reality remains to be seen, but we suppose at the very least it is possible and will not be blocked by Oculus.

In the meantime Oculus had previously revealed that the consumer version of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset would begin shipping to customers in Q1 2016.

Here Are The Top 10 Fittest Cities In America

The national’s capital isn’t just leading our government — it’s setting the standard for fitness, too. According to the latest American Fitness Index, Washington, D.C. is the most fit city in the country, retaining its title for a second year in a row.

So, how is fitness measured? Researchers from the American College of Sports Medicine took at look at obesity, smoking and diabetes rates, plus community and environmental factors that play a substantial role in providing access to better health. The survey answers the question, “I want to be physically active and healthy — does my environment or the community in which I live support my desire to be healthy?” according to Walter R. Thompson, an AFI advisory board member.

The report looks at data for the 50 largest metropolitan statistical areas in the United States. This year is the first time it has included a look at what percentage of a city’s population lives within a 10-minute walk of a park space. The main finding: The top-ranked cities have the most accessible parks.

“For example, 95 percent of the population in Washington, D.C. lives within a 10-minute walk to a park. On the other end of the spectrum, [in] Indianapolis, which is 50th on our list, only 31 percent live within a 10-minute walking distance of a park.” Thompson told The Huffington Post. “Another consideration is how much funding goes to parks. In Washington, D.C., the city spends $287 per person per year on parks. Indianapolis only spends $24 per person per year on parks. All of our top ranked cities all spend more money on parks than our lowest ranked cities.”

2015 didn’t look quite as good as 2014 fitness-wise, unfortunately. The AFI saw an 11.3 percent drop in the number of people who exercised within the last 30 days, and a 7.8 percent increase in diabetes and death rates.

But hey, at least D.C. is doing well. And so is California. Check out which cities made the top 10 below:

A Definitive Ranking Of The Best (And Worst) Bagel Flavors

Photo credit: Creatas Images via Getty Images

When it comes to bagels, there are a few truths everyone has to accept. First, it’s really hard to get a decent bagel outside of New York or Montreal — despite the fact that it is scientifically possible. And two, not all bagel flavors are created equal.

It would be a beautiful world if one could order a bagel flavor on a whim and be just as pleased as if they had ordered a plain bagel. This is not the case. While some bagel flavors are so good they make everything they touch turn to gold (ahem, everything bagels), others are in fact so terrible that accidentally ordering one can ruin your day, week, or even year (ahem, blueberry).

Don’t let bad bagels happen to you. We’ve ranked our favorites among a selection of popular bagel flavors, starting with the ones that shouldn’t be touched with a 10-foot pole to flavors so good you’ll request a dozen of them for special occasions. Since this is obviously a subjective ranking, we want to hear your thoughts below.

Chocolate Chunk Cookie Recipes, For When You Need A Little Extra Chocolate

There’s a lot of debate about what makes a great chocolate chip cookie. Chewy vs. crisp, small vs. the size of your head. Some folks believe that it is the chocolate chips themselves that make for an inferior cookie, touting the virtues of chopped chocolate instead, which melts into the cookie dough. Others remain true to the classic chip.

We rest firmly in the middle.

Sometimes, chocolate chips make for an unforgettable cookie — like the 22 recipes right here — but sometimes chocolate chunks are where it’s at (for example, when you need loads of chocolate). These 15 recipes below are proof of that.

33 Messy Braid Hairstyles That Prove Perfection Is Overrated

One of our favorite things about wearing messy braids is that you don’t have to be a master hairstylist to achieve the look. Flyaways, visible bobby pins and frizzy ends often make these braided ‘dos look effortlessly gorgeous.

Another added bonus about messy braids is that they don’t require a particular hair texture or length. Everyone — from Kelly Osbourne with her partially shaved head, to Mindy Kaling with her naturally wavy locks — loves to sport them.

Take a cue from the celebrity messy braid hairstyles below and don’t get caught up in creating perfectly polished plaits. Use your imagination and the hairstyling products in the slideshow to make braiding at home even easier.
