LG X Power And X Style Spotted

lg-x-styleIt looks like those who are on the lookout for new smartphones and mobile devices would not have been disappointed at all today, as there has been multiple handset launches, and if you happen to be a fan of the South Korean company LG, then you would be rooting for them when you hear of how the LG X range has seen an addition of two more models to its family, as both of these handsets have been unveiled on the quiet over in Ukraine.

The first of the two handsets, the LG X Power, gains its name from the rather generous battery – we are talking about 4,100mAh of juice within, which means you can run the device for quite a long time before requiring a charge. Other hardware specifications include a 5.3″ IPS screen with 720p resolution (277ppi), a MediaTek MT6735 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot. At the back lies a 13MP camera, while the front boasts of an 8MP selfie camera.

As for the LG X Style, it will be the lesser of the two, sporting a 5″ screen with 720p resolution (294ppi), runs on a Snapdragon 410 chipset, 1.5GB of RAM, an equal amount of internal memory, and of course, a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

Meizu Lines Up Blue Charm Metal 2

meizu-bluecharm-metal2You know how a particular device is all set for a market release when it starts to appear in certification bodies such as TENAA (where over in China, it is somewhat the equivalent of the FCC in the US). Well, the folks over at Meizu are not keeping their cards close to the chest where the Blue Charm Metal 2 is concerned, especially since this particular model has already passed TENAA certification.

Known internationally as the Meizu Metal 2, the Blue Charm Metal 2 intends to be a sequel to the Meizu Blue Charm that has, for the want of a better word, charmed its fair number of people when it first arrived. As with each TENAA certification, do expect certain figures and numbers from the smartphone’s specifications to arrive as well, such as a Helio P10 chip running the show with an 1.8GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. For those who prefer to have additional RAM, fret not, there will be a variant of the device that will sport 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory.

Where its cameras are concerned, expect this handset to come with a 13MP shooter with dual LED flash at the back, alongside a 5MP front-facing camera, and underneath the all-metal body lies a rather generous 4,000mAh battery.

Alleged Photos ‘Confirms’ MacBook Pro’s OLED Touch Panel

macbook pro touch panelA rumor from last week revealed some pretty far out claims with regards to the next-gen MacBook Pro. According to the rumor, the laptop will feature an OLED touch panel above the keyboard along with support for Touch ID, in addition to the other rumors about it being really thin and light compared to its predecessors.

Now thanks to the folks at Cult of Mac, they have managed to get their hands on photos that seems to confirm some of the specs. As you can see in the photo above, it is the alleged photo of the chassis belonging to the upcoming MacBook Pro. The keyboard seems to be pretty standard, but as you can see there is a huge blank space above the number keys, where supposedly the OLED touch panel would go.

Presumably the OLED panel will be replacing the function keys on the laptop and given that it is also a display, means that users can customize it any way they want to include shortcuts for app launches, or maybe make it contextual depending on the app that you are running (like media controls when watching a movie or playing music, or editing shortcuts when you use Photoshop, and etc.).

That being said, there are other photos that shows that the new MacBook Pro will be going all-in with USB-C. Thankfully this isn’t the case like with the 12-inch MacBook as the photos suggest that Apple will be introducing four USB-C connectors, with two on each side. Safe to say that it should be taken with a grain of salt, but what do you guys make of the design so far?

Instagram Officially Announces New Tools For Businesses

instagram business toolsThere are many businesses who have accounts on Instagram, which actually makes sense because Instagram is purely for photos, meaning that it would be a good way to to show off their products like clothing, jewelry, or food, minus the clutter of text and other items on the feed on Facebook that might otherwise be distracting.

However unlike Facebook, Instagram never really offered any tools for businesses, at least until recently where we reported that Instagram had started to test out business profile pages. Turns out that businesses did not have to wait for long because Instagram has officially announced new business tools aimed at users who run business profiles on Instagram.

These new tools come in the form of business profiles where they will get special buttons that will allow customers to contact them directly via text, email, or a phone call (right now the only way is to DM them within Instagram, or launch a separate app to email). There will also be insights provided to businesses to get an idea of which posts work better than others, as well as get an idea of the demographics of their audience.

There will also be the option to promote certain posts that asks users to take action, like maybe to reserve/pre-order an item, or to vote on a design, and so on. These tools are expected to begin rolling out to users in the coming months and will make its way to regions around the world by the end of the year.

Companies Or Politicians Can’t Promote Themselves In Minecraft

minecraft-xboxoneeditionThere are many companies, celebrities, and politicians who will take advantage of pop-culture in an attempt to promote themselves, whether it be to take part in a viral dance video, use popular apps, appear to TV, and so on. This is normal and pretty much expected, but apparently this is also something that the folks at Mojang don’t want when it comes to their game Minecraft.

In a blog post on Mojang’s website, the developer highlighted some changes that they’ve made to their Guidelines that pretty much says that companies and politicians aren’t allow to promote themselves in the game. For example they’re not allowed to build a Minecraft mod or server that promotes an unplayable and unrelated product, like marketing a restaurant that’s made out of Minecraft blocks.

They also can’t use Minecraft to build a map or mod or a TV show or movie, or recreate a trailer using the game. However Mojang notes that this only applies to companies and individuals who might be using the game for commercial/promotional purposes (or who hired someone to do it for them).

They point out that fans and regular gamers are more than welcome to keep doing what they’re doing, so if you’re trying to recreate the Game of Thrones opening sequence in Minecraft, don’t worry, you can keep doing it as long as HBO did not hire you to do so.

It looks like the full hardware specifications for Samsung’s dedicated activity tracker has been revealed, with far better specifications compared to its predecessor.

Hillary is the Proven Leader on Climate Change

My good friend Cindy Harrell-Horn, one of the smartest and most committed environmental advocates of our time, recently shared her thoughts with us on the presidential election. Cindy and Hillary befriended one another–two mothers–when their children were young. I want to share Cindy’s story far and wide because it’s one of deep personal connection with Hillary and unveils an intimate understanding of Hillary’s compassion and empathy. Enjoy!

Hillary is the Proven Leader on Climate Change
By Cindy Harrell-Horn, environmentalist and mother

For most of my life I have avoided speaking publicly about the issues I care about, preferring instead to work quietly behind the scenes. Yet as I witness each day the profound impact of climate change on the places and people I love, I have decided it is time for me to raise my voice.

Air pollution, years of drought, rising sea-levels, mounting health impacts, and wildfires all fueled by climate change are taking their toll. No state has done more to address this incredible challenge than California. California now leads the nation in solar jobs, and the clean energy sector is growing rapidly–giving our economy a needed boost. Our leadership set a standard that President Obama has since followed to make historic progress at every level to reduce carbon pollution. Rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline, finalizing a rule to reduce carbon pollution from power plants, and securing the international climate agreement in Paris have put us on the path to minimizing the impacts of catastrophic climate change.

While I celebrate this progress, I know that it is all on the line in this election. California needs the next President to be a proven leader with the experience and expertise to start getting the job done on Day One–who not only understands the problems we face, but knows how to build on the environmental progress we’ve made, and pushes forward an aggressive plan to tackle climate change in a way that doesn’t leave anyone out.

There is no doubt that the leader we so desperately need is my dear friend, Hillary Clinton. She possesses a level of compassion and empathy that is rare in politics. I first met Hillary when our children were young. I know how deeply she cares about their future, and even more, about the future of the children that are most vulnerable to the impacts of global climate change. She carries their burdens with her, deepening her fierce commitment to addressing this challenge.

Just as important, Hillary has spent a lifetime honing the skills needed to get things done amidst partisan rancor. As a Senator and Secretary of State, Hillary was a tireless advocate for environmental protection. I’ve witnessed her skillful and effective efforts to protect clean air and clean water. I watched her vote repeatedly to incentivize wind and solar power. And I’ve seen her nimbly collaborate across party lines to help create job training programs for renewable energy workers. She twice introduced legislation that would prioritize investment in cleaner energy, and signed on to legislation to reduce the worst air pollutants from power plants. She launched the Climate and Clean Air Coalition, which brought together 37 countries and 44 non-state partners.

As a candidate, Hillary has a bold, ambitious plan for building on President Obama’s climate action plan and taking us further. Her plans include aggressive investments in solar and wind power, further reductions in climate pollution from not only carbon dioxide but methane, and a transition away from dirty fossil fuels, including opposition to offshore drilling, coal leasing and fossil fuel extraction on public lands. Her leadership earned her an important early endorsement from the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund.

Californians also understand that the clean water crisis in Flint, Michigan is not an isolated incident. Organizations have been advocating for clean water in the Californian Central Valley for a decade. Yet many low-income Latino communities in our San Joaquin Valley continue to wait for safe drinking water to return to their taps. It’s a tragic fact that communities of color in this country are unfairly shouldering the burden of air and water pollution. That’s why it’s so significant that Hillary Clinton is the only presidential candidate to not just call attention to this problem, but go a step further and develop a detailed plan to address environmental injustice. Hillary’s environmental justice plan says everything about why her vision for a cleaner, safer and more just world is exactly what we need in our next President.

I have watched Hillary Clinton as a public figure, as a fellow mother, and now as a grandmother. It is because of all of her roles, and the strength she has brought to them, that I see the leader California needs. Our families need a President with the proven leadership skills and the comprehensive plan to move us forward on addressing the serious economic, health, and environmental impacts of climate change. We need Hillary Clinton.
