Lenovo Has A 18.4-inch Tablet In The Works

Samsung-Galaxy-View-03Tablets come in a variety of shapes and sizes, although every now and then you see companies break away from more conventional sizes, such as Samsung when they launched the 18.4-inch Galaxy View tablet last year. Now a tablet of that size is naturally unwieldy, but apparently Lenovo thinks Samsung might be onto something.

According to recent benchmark sightings, it seems that Lenovo has a similar-sized tablet in the works. The benchmarks reveal that the tablet will also sport an 18.4-inch display with a 2560×1440 resolution, which gives it a higher resolution than that of the Galaxy View. It also appears to be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm chipset and will come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

The amount of RAM and screen resolution make this Lenovo device more powerful than the Galaxy View, although we can only imagine that it will make it cost more as well. It also appears to be running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow which is welcome news. Like we said, tablets of this size tend to be unwieldy but we guess some users might prefer using it more as a monitor.

No word on how much it will cost, but Lenovo did recently confirm that they will be hosting an event on the 9th of June, so maybe we will find out more then.

Sleep Deprivation: The Silent Killer

2016-05-11-1463010837-6425264-SleepDeprivation.jpg

Sleep deprivation not only affects your overall daily performance, in a short period of time it can cause chronic illness. Most individuals do not realize that getting enough quality sleep at the right times can help protect your mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety.

Your body can’t function properly when it is deprived sleep. Each individual requires at least eight hour of sleep a night. If an individual doesn’t acquire enough of sleep and this behavior continues on an ongoing basis the person’s cognitive abilities will become affected and their body immune system could become affected, increasing the chances of developing chronic illness.

According to Harvard Medical School, studies show that sleeping less than five hours a night increases the risk of death from all causes by about 15 percent. Sleep deprivation is dangerous to your mental and physical health and can dramatically lower your quality of life.

Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington provides brilliant insight In The Sleep Revolution as she provides excellent scientific research on page 111 discussing studies that were performed that concluded that even though we may not know how we develop the common cold we do know how to increase the likelihood of getting one. Huffington continues as she discusses how we open the door to other illnesses like cancer when we deprive ourselves of sleep.

The Sleep Revolution is packed with magnificent advice, tools, techniques, and strategies, which teaches readers how to renew their relationship with sleep giving them the ability to take back control in their lives, so they can experience a fulfilling life.

Ways to Transform and Renew Your Relationship with Sleep

Changing our bad habits with sleep is not something we can change quickly. Here are some constructive ways from Arianna’s Huffington’s book The Sleep Revolution, to help you consistently get a good night sleep on a daily basis.

  1. Turn down the lights: When your brain detects light it automatically thinks it not time to sleep yet. Make the bedroom as dark as possible creating a calming dark atmosphere with little disturbances. Consider using a sleep mask and/or ear plugs when you sleep.
  2. Exercise: A 2013 study from Northwestern University found that daily exercise could add around forty-five minutes of extra sleep.
  3. Avoid spicy foods: Spicy foods can cause heartburn or bloating. Australian researchers found that participants who ate Tabaco sauce and mustard before bed had a harder time falling asleep. They also found that their body temperatures increased. This is another factor that leads to poor sleep.
  4. Avoid fatty food: Researchers found that eating too many fatty foods can cause people to experience excessive sleepiness during the day causing them to sleep more during the day interfering with their sleep at night.
  5. Acupuncture: According to a review from Emory University, 93 percent of people who tried acupuncture experienced an improvement in their sleep. Another study concluded that acupuncture was just as effective as sleep medicine.
  6. Use lavender scents: Lavender scents are one of the most popular herbs for sleep is lavender, which promotes healing and relaxation. A Thai study concluded that lavender helps relax us by slowing down the heart rate, decreasing our blood pressure and lowering skin temperature.
  7. Grab a catnap: According to David Randall, the author of dreamland, even a short nap, “primes our brain to function at a high level.”
  8. Wear comfortable pajamas: Don’t always worry about impressing your mate. Be comfortable. Being comfy helps you to relax and when you’re cozy you sleep better.
  9. Mediation: Mediation helps to clear the mind, so we can avoid those racing thoughts that fill our minds and bring stress into our lives.

Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington provides brilliant insight on how to transform your life including fabulous advice plus a wide-range of recommendations and tips from leading scientists on how you can achieve better and more restorative sleep, so you are able to harness its incredible power.

Throughout the book, Arianna Huffington provides a vast array of scientific evidence that helps readers acknowledge the vital importance of sleep and how it plays an essential role in people’s mental and physical health.

Sleep is not only necessary for well-being, but it is vital for each individual to receive adequate sleep so they can function well. Sadly, most people do not receive the amount of sleep that they need because of the various responsibilities that they have to do. With looming deadlines and hard tasks that need to be accomplished immediately, people tend to forget sleep and put their health on the line as they increase their risk of developing illnesses, diseases and even the possibility of death.

No matter what age you are you can transform your life and create the life you always wanted for yourself. A life filled with happiness, inner peace, good health and strong inner strength that can lead you to endless opportunities and the ability to reach any level of success you desire.

World Of Warcraft: Legion Beta Testing To Begin Soon

world of warcraft legionA couple of days ago, we reported that the World of Warcraft: Legion beta testing is expected to begin on the 12th of May at 2PM Pacific Time. Just in case you weren’t 100% sure that it was, Blizzard has since posted a reminder that the beta will indeed be beginning soon and that all gamers have to do is opt-in for the testing.

According to Blizzard, “The Legion beta test includes the new Demon Hunter class, the starting experience for the Broken Isles, the new level-up and max-level zones, the new Artifact system, and much more. Beta testers will be able to create characters using level 100 templates, so they’ll be primed and ready to explore the newest content.”

Blizzard also notes that there will not be any NDA placed on the beta, meaning that you’re more than welcome to share what you’ve discovered with your friends. Alternatively it also means that you can look forward to more videos posted on YouTube describing the beta experience. This isn’t an open beta so if you did not receive an email letting you know that you have been chosen, then we guess that’s just too bad.

In the meantime World of Warcraft: Legion is expected to be released by the 30th of August, 2016, meaning that we still have several months of beta testing ahead of its release which will hopefully ensure a smooth and relatively bug-free launch.

Google Just Released A Keyboard For Your iPhone

Google has announced Gboard today, it’s a new keyboard app for iPhone users that allows them to search and send information, GIFs, emojis, and much more through the keyboard itself. It’s interesting what the company is doing here because it’s essentially bringing over Google Now on Tap to iOS. Since the feature can’t be baked into Apple’s platform the second best way to bring it to iOS is by launching it as an app.

It’s the same concept. Instead of having to switch between apps for little tasks, users can accomplish all that they need to using Gboard.

For example, say you’re making plans with a friend for dinner and they ask you to find the address. Normally you would close whatever app you were using to talk to them and launch a web browser, open a search engine, find the address, copy it and then paste it back in the messaging app. Sounds hectic.

Gboard makes it simpler. Press and hold on the Google logo and type in your query, and instantly share the desired result. They keyboard works with all iOS apps, lets users swipe to type, as well as brings emojis and GIFs so that they can easily add some spark to their conversations.

It’s a great way for Google to showcase this technology and also get more people on iOS using its search engine since users don’t get to change the search engine that Gboard uses. Gboard is now available as a free download from the App Store.

4 Reasons I Am Single and Happy

2016-05-11-1463001030-4335471-ScreenShot20150525at10.54.53AM.png

Why is it when a woman says she is single and 31 that something is wrong with her? I just do not get it! I can’t understand it to save my life. Even men have bought into this idiotic theory that a woman that is 31 and single is mentally unstable. Well, I am sorry but it is not the case (although everyone has a little crazy in them). I am 31 and single because I choose to be.

Just thinking. I was at a thrift store and this lady told me, “you are too pretty to be single. You better lower your standards. Honey because the ratio of men to women is something else honey chile.”

Why did she say that to me? Did she not know she was speaking to the the paper sack brown queen? I along with millions of unmarried women 31 and over say it is a choice. Just because we are single doesn’t mean we are miserable. Furthermore, I know plenty of single wives… (they have their rings to sleep with at night).

So here are my four reasons I am single and happy.

First, I am preparing myself for marriage. I am getting rid of the baggage of past relationships, insecurities, etc. As well as achieving goals that could possibly add stress to a relationship in which they are better done as a single woman. So sweet darling please hold your tongue when you think to say to a single woman that she is sad because she is single. Not all women are looking for a better half. I am whole so I don’t need to be a half on anything. Better yet,

I don’t like the word “half,” it gives the signal of something being incomplete and in search for any and everything to fill that void of the other half.

Secondly, there is a peace in the solo moments that are nurturing to the soul. It gives you time to know and study yourself. I finally learned how to embrace my solo moments when I traveled solo abroad too. (Read my post on Why women should travel abroad solo)

Thirdly, let freedom ring. I don’t have to make decisions based on how it will influence others. It is priceless. I have the right to do what I want to do and it is so liberating. I don’t have to argue or explain myself to anyone.

Finally, single is not a status. It is simply a 6 letter word that describes a person who is strong enough to live and enjoy life. If you aren’t happy single, you won’t be happen in a relationship. Happiness comes from within. It is an internal characteristic. It does not come from men. Yes, I know there are some things that are better done with a partner but I will do those things when the time comes. I will never scream I am independent and don’t need anyone but I can hold my own! In the mean time I will sip my green tea and prepare to be the person I wish to attract.

So stop asking me why am I single if you do not want me to ask how are you still in an unhealthy relationship. :

P.S. A man is not a hobby but a helpmate/helpmeet…If you did not know… soul ties are real so you can’t tie your soul to every Rick James that you meet.

LAPD Looking To Use Tesla Cars For ‘High-Pursuit’

model-s-lapd

The police have a very tough job on their hands given that they’re responsible for keeping people and communities safe, they require the best tools at their disposal in order to be able to do their job effectively, and LA’s finest is now considering to use some of the best electric cars ever mode particular for use in “high-pursuit” situations.

The Las Angeles Police Department has already been testing and evaluating two Tesla Model S P85D cars that are on loan from Tesla. They have been considering to add a few of these top-tier electric cars to their fleet given that the Model S provides a great blend of safety and performance.

Police can’t go around trying to catch bad guys in slow cars. Fast cars are always welcome and given that a top-of-the-line Model S with Ludicrous Mode enabled can go from 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, bad guys will surely think twice about running away from the cops.

However, a car doesn’t just need to be fast to be fit for police duty, because they often perform driving maneuvers to catch perps fleeing in cars. The Model S is very well built, and given that it can survive an accident even after soaring 82 feet in the air goes to show that the police might be on to something here.

The only caveat here is that Tesla cars, particularly the Model S, are not cheap and police departments aren’t actually loaded with cash for expensive vehicles. LAPD Police Administrator Vartan Yegiyan acknowledges that the Model S is a bit too expensive now for the department to consider but as electric vehicles continue to get cheaper, they will surely become a viable option over the next few years.

Elizabeth Warren And Congressional Democrats Call Out Lack Of Diversity At The Federal Reserve

A majority of House Democrats and eleven Democratic senators sent a letter to Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen on Thursday, urging the Fed to improve the diversity of its top officials and increase the representation of consumer and labor groups in its ranks.

The letter, spearheaded by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) in the Senate and Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) in the House, argues that a lack of diversity of all kinds at the Federal Reserve undermines the central bank’s ability to represent the public.

The Fed’s control over monetary policy, the letter notes, gives it far-reaching influence over the economy. When the central bank decides to raise interest rates, it increases borrowing costs, putting downward pressure on job creation in order to keep inflation in check.

A Fed with fewer black and female decision-makers might be less attuned to the ways in which modest changes in the job market disproportionately affect African-Americans and women, both of whom suffer from employment discrimination.

“When the voices of women, African-Americans, Latinos, and representatives of consumers and labor are excluded from key discussions, their interests are too often neglected,” the letter states.

Boasting the signatures of 116 House Democrats, including all of the Democrats in the Congressional Black Caucus, the letter does not lack for evidence with which to critique the central bank.

Eighty-three percent of the board members of the regional Federal Reserve banks are white, and almost three-quarters of them are men, according to a Center for Popular Democracy study cited in the letter.

Just 11 percent of those board members represent consumer and community groups or labor organizations, the study states, while 39 percent come from the financial industry and 47 percent from other major business sectors.

When the voices of women, African-Americans, Latinos, and representatives of consumers and labor are excluded from key discussions, their interests are too often neglected.
Warren-Conyers letter to Janet Yellen

The congressional Democrats praised Yellen in the letter for prioritizing full employment since she has taken the helm in 2014. Yellen has presided over just one increase in the Fed’s benchmark rate in December, when the Fed raised it to a range of 0.25 to 0.5 percent from the near-zero level, where it had been since the 2008 financial crisis.

The letter also credits Yellen for promising to “consider” African-American candidates for open regional Fed president positions during her congressional testimony in February, and expressing “concern” that there has never been a black president of a regional Federal Reserve bank.

But just days after Yellen’s testimony, the Democrats note, the Fed announced it had approved the re-appointment of 10 regional Fed presidents, all of whom are white and eight of whom are men.

“Despite the importance of this decision, there appears to have been no public consultation, and limited transparency regarding the metrics and criteria used to evaluate the presidents’ performance, or in the decision to reappoint them,” the letter alleges.

Warren and Conyers’ letter is part of a broader push by progressive members of Congress, along with national activist groups and like-minded economists, to make Federal Reserve monetary policy a key component of the progressive agenda. They argue that the outsize influence of inflation-wary financial professionals on the central bank, plus sustained pressure from ideological conservatives in Congress, mean it’s time for liberals to be more vocal about their views.

The Fed Up coalition, an alliance of progressive groups headed by the Center for Popular Democracy, has led these efforts, which include a reform plan released in April that would transform the Fed into a wholly public entity, among other changes. (The 12 regional Fed banks are currently owned by private financial institutions.)

Fed Up said activists affiliated with its member groups made calls to members of Congress to encourage them to sign the letter.

Democratic hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) was among the lawmakers who did so. Sanders also praised Fed Up’s April reform plan and released detailed proposals of his own for the central bank in December.

Fellow Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton’s campaign implied that Clinton agreed with the letter’s key demands.

“Secretary Clinton believes that the Fed needs to be more representative of America as a whole as well as that commonsense reforms — like getting bankers off the boards of regional Federal Reserve banks — are long overdue,” Jesse Ferguson, a spokesman for the Clinton campaign, said in a statement. “Secretary Clinton will also defend the Fed’s so-called dual mandate — the legal requirement that it focus on full employment as well as inflation — and will appoint Fed governors who share this commitment and who will carry out unwavering oversight of the financial industry.”

The remarks appear to be the most explicit comments to date by either Clinton or her campaign on the Democratic presidential front-runner’s vision for the Fed and the types of Fed officials she would appoint as president.

Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump’s presidential campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the letter.

Trump told CNBC last week that he would likely replace Yellen, who is the first female chair of the central bank, once her term ends in 2018. In the same interview, he said he supports low interest rates, a policy Yellen promoted that might be undone by a more conservative Fed chair.

Trump’s latest comments suggest a departure from claims he made in August, when he said the low rates were feeding a financial asset bubble.
