Now Y Combinator Wants to Build a City Because Every Other Tech Company Is Doing It

Cities are so trendy right now that every big tech company wants to build its own. Zappos did it in Downtown Vegas
. Amazon is kind of doing it in a Seattle
. Alphabet is probably
doing it somewhere soon
. And now Y Combinator wants in on the fun, too, with a plan to build some kind of alt-Silicon Valley… somewhere.

Breaking Open a Lock with a Paper Clip, a Screwdriver, or a Metal Can Is Really Easy

Breaking Open a Lock with a Paper Clip, a Screwdriver, or a Metal Can Is Really Easy

You’re not going to be a master locksmith after you watch this video showing you three ways to break open a lock, but you might stop putting your faith in cheap padlocks. That’s because a few bent paperclips could jimmy the thing open. Even just jamming a screwdriver into the keyhole can make it unlock. Or if you’re super experimental, you can trace a key using tape and then cut out its shape on a flimsy metal can.

Rolls-Royce’s autonomous ship control center is crazy futuristic

It’s no secret that Rolls-Royce is working on autonomous ships for commercial use (read: self-operating cargo ships) — we heard about them years ago, and work on them has been relatively quiet since. That changed this month, with Rolls-Royce detailing what it envisions the future will hold in this regard; there will be the autonomous ships themselves, of course, but … Continue reading

The monitor isn’t being targeted at the average consumer, … Continue reading

Microsoft Will Be Shutting Xbox Fitness Down

xbox fitnessIn case you didn’t know, Microsoft had a feature for the Xbox called Xbox Fitness. Basically it was meant to provide gamers on the Xbox a way to work out, and in some cases it took advantage of the Kinect to track your progress/form. It even came with popular workout programs like Insanity and P90X.

Unfortunately it seems that Microsoft has decided that they will no longer support the feature and has announced that they will be shutting it down. According to Microsoft, “Given the service relies on providing you with new and exciting content regularly, Microsoft has given much consideration to the reality updating the service regularly in order to sustain it. Therefore, the decision has been made to scale back our support for Xbox Fitness over the next year.”

They also add, “Beginning today, June 27, 2016, Xbox Fitness content will no longer be available for purchase. For existing users of Xbox Fitness, the content you’ve purchased will be available to play for a year, through June 30, 2017.” What this means is that if you already own Xbox Fitness, you’ll be able to keep using it until next year, but if you haven’t purchased it yet, you won’t be able to.

Based on the comments on Microsoft’s blog, it seems that many gamers aren’t too thrilled about it, especially some who have just bought it and who basically paid $60 just to use it for a year. There are also some who are upset because this is a reason why they bought the Kinect accessory as well, but either way it looks like Microsoft’s decision is final.

Minecraft Movie Release Date Set For May 24, 2019

minecraft movieAs gamers have probably heard by now, there is a Minecraft movie in the works, although a couple of years ago, it was suggested that the movie was still 2-4 years away from actually being released. For those wondering about its release, wonder no more as we finally have an official release date.

The only bad news is that instead of us being 2-4 years away, which was reported in 2014, it seems that we might have to wait a little bit more. According to a post on the Mojang website, it has been revealed that the official release date for the Minecraft movie is set for the 24th of May, 2019. This means that we still have roughly under 3 years of waiting to go.

According to the post written by Vu Bai, “I know you’ve been thinking just about every day, ‘When’s the Minecraft movie coming out?’ Luckily for you, we can finally say! The Minecraft movie will be released on May 24, 2019! The film will also be released in 3D & IMAX. Yes, that might seem like a long time away, but it just so happens to be the right amount of time to make it completely awesome. And we all want an awesome Minecraft movie, right?”

We suppose it makes sense that they want to take their time getting it right. After all video game movies have had a bad rep for being terrible, so we can only hope that the wait will be worth it.

Bethesda To Make Skyrim: Special Edition As Next-Gen As Possible

When Bethesda announced Skyrim: Special Edition a couple of weeks ago during E3 2016, we have to say that from the trailer itself it looked amazing and definitely looked nothing like the original game. Then again this was meant to be a remaster and it looks like Bethesda had remastered the heck out of it.

However it turns out that’s not the extent of the changes they have made. Speaking to IGN, Bethesda’s Pete Hines said, “We haven’t really gotten into the full, ‘Here’s all the things that we’re doing,’ but the basic idea is, in all the ways possible we’re trying to improve it and make it as next-gen and appropriate for these consoles as possible. So, performance, or effects, or whatever we can do to make the game look and feel better, we’re going to give it a go.”

Hines was also asked about loading times on Twitter to which he replied by saying, “I think we’d like to improve performance in all areas. I haven’t been timing load times to compare.” Skyrim: Special Edition will be released this coming October where it will be playable on the PC, Xbox One, and the PS4. It will also come with all the DLCs that have been released for the game to date. In the meantime if you haven’t seen the trailer yet, you can watch it above around the 3:18 mark.
