Apple Creates Rainbow Apple Watch Bands For LGBT Pride

apple pride bandsTo celebrate this year’s LGBTQ Pride festivities and also to mark the 30th anniversary of the company’s association with Pride, it seems that Apple has decided to create special rainbow bands for the Apple Watch that they handed out to their employees, which also came with a little note.

According to the note it reads, “Apple’s first Diversity Network Association, Pride, turns 30 this year and we’re thrilled to celebrate this tremendous milestone with you! As recognition for everyone who registered to participate in a Pride event this year we created something special. This limited-edition band is a symbol of our commitment to equality and we hope you’ll wear it with pride.”

Unfortunately for those who aren’t Apple employees, it seems that Apple has no plans of selling the bands. Instead they were created in limited quantities and were handed out to employees. It is said that they are made out of nylon and they are also rather attractive in terms of design, a nice change of pace from the other Apple Watch bands offered by the company.

Prior to this year, Apple celebrated previous years like in 2015 where they created t-shirts, flags, and banners and passed them out to parade participants.

South Korea Creates Safety Signs For Walking And Texting

walking_texting_dangersTexting and walking is dangerous as we have seen people hurt themselves in the past because of it. In various cities around the world, local governments have tried to come up with creative solutions, or like in the state of Nevada, it was even briefly considered that the act of walking and texting should be made illegal, like driving and texting.

That being said, it seems that over in South Korea the government has decided to make use of a more traditional solution, which is that they will create signboards to warn users of the dangers of texting and walking, as you can see in the image above, although we have to wonder how effective it will be for those who are already walking and texting.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, “The traffic sign is designed to show pedestrians at a glance a dangerous situation in which a smart phone user runs into a car while walking on the street. In order to enhance the understanding, the phrase ‘Warning: Be careful while using a Smartphone while Walking’ will be added to the sign.”

“In addition, the pedestrian sign has a message that says ‘Walk Safely.’ The message is made simple and clear so that the pedestrians who are mostly looking down at their smart phones can easily see it.” The signs will be placed in areas like Hongdae, City Hall, Yonsei University, Gangnam Station, and Jamsil Station where such accidents are said to happen more frequently.

Apple’s iPhone 8 Could Finally Bring About Wireless Charging

iPhone6s-2Up-HeroFish-PR-PRINTWhile there are many smartphone makers who have integrated wireless charging technology into their devices, it is pretty obvious that wireless charging tech isn’t as big as it should be. This is probably due to the limitations in which the phones need to be placed on a charging mat, and also it tends to charge slower than regular charging.

However could Apple have finally cracked the code when it comes to wireless charging? According to a report from Chinese website MyDrivers, they have suggested that Apple’s iPhone 8 could finally introduce wireless charging technology. Unfortunately given the state of Apple rumors, it’s really quite hard to say if this is true.

Right now this year’s iPhone is expected to be the iPhone 7, but last we heard, Apple could be reserving the iPhone 7 name for 2017’s model. This means that the iPhone 8 will probably arrive in 2018/2019, or if the 3-year refresh cycle is to be believed, 2020 which is admittedly a very, very long way off.

That being said, next year’s iPhone is said to be quite a game changer in terms of design and features as it will be sporting an OLED screen, something that has been rumored about for a while and could finally materialize next year. In any case take with a grain of salt, but how does wireless charging sound to you guys?

The 10 Best — And 10 Worst — Cities To Retire In America

Forget pristine beaches and palm trees. The top city in the U.S. to retire is actually Arlington, Virginia, according to Bankrate.com’s annual ranking of places for retirees, released Monday. Rounding out the top five are: Franklin, Tennessee, West Des Moines, Iowa, Sarasota, Florida, and Scottsdale, Arizona.

The study, by the publisher of finance content, considered nine categories when crafting the list: cost of living, climate, healthcare cost and quality, taxes, crime, well-being, walkability and cultural vitality. A wealth of cultural opportunities, a strong sense of well-being among seniors and great healthcare are the main reasons why Arlington was ranked number one.

“We found that smaller cities and suburbs fared the best,” said Bankrate.com analyst Jill Cornfield, in a release. “Most seniors prefer to live in these types of communities because they offer access to big-city amenities without as much hustle, bustle and crime.”

According to the study, Niagara Falls, New York, is the worst place to retire. It was dragged down by high taxes, a cold/snowy climate and an above average crime rate. Milford, Connecticut; San Bernardino, California; Troy, New York, and Worcester, Massachusetts, comprise the rest of the bottom five.

In March, Bankrate.com released its annual list of best states to retire. Wyoming nabbed the top spot, followed by South Dakota, Colorado, Utah and Virginia.

Of course, other evaluations have come up with other suggestions for retirees. For example, if you are one of those people who would prefer retiring abroad, a recent ranking of 96 countries revealed that Norway is the best place to grow older, followed by Sweden, Switzerland and Canada.

So where do you want to retire? Scroll down to see Bankrate.com’s complete list of top 10 U.S. cities to retire. And go here to find out more about what makes these cities so special.

Which Has More Caffeine, Light Or Dark Roast? Here's The Truth

For most of us, drinking a cup of coffee is about getting that jolt of caffeine. But are you drinking the right roast to maximize your buzz consumption? Chances are, probably.

There’s a common misconception that dark roast has more caffeine than light roast because it’s darker. Other folks believe that light roast has more caffeine than dark roast because caffeine is lost when beans are roasted. Both of those schools of thought are wrong because all roasts of the same bean have basically the same amount of caffeine. Caffeine is actually extremely stable during the roasting process. The effect of roasting on caffeine is so minimal it can really only be observed in a controlled laboratory setting.

Light roast, dark roast, medium roast, it will all pretty much get you equally caffeinated. Unless, that is, you’re drinking different species.

There are two main coffee species that are cultivated in the world: Arabica and Robusta. Arabica is more expensive and tastier. Robusta is harsher and cheaper. But Robusta generally has more caffeine. An average morning cup of Robusta coffee (about 12 oz.) could contain anywhere between 232 to 800 milligrams. And an average cup of Arabica would contain somewhere between 84 and 580 milligrams — that’s about half the caffeine content of Robusta. The higher caffeine content actually makes Robusta less pleasant to drink.

So our takeaway is: pick the roast based on your taste preference — light roast has a brighter flavor and is more acidic, dark roast is smoother — and don’t try to judge its caffeine content from its roast.

9 Summer Dresses That Are Better From Behind

This summer, everyone seems to be keen on showing off their shoulders. But we still think that a dress with an exposed back is the way to go.

Not only is it incredibly sexy, but it’s a nice surprise, especially when the front is simple. And thankfully, tons of brands and designers are churning them out, just in time for all the nice weather.

Herewith, nine dresses that are so much better from behind.

Egg-In-A-Donut Gives A Whole New Meaning To Breakfast Of Champions

Take a look at the most glorious sight your breakfast-hungry eyes will ever see:

That right there, ladies and gentlemen, is a donut-in-a-hole — basically a toad-in-a-hole that uses a donut in place of bread. It’s what a toad-in-a hole has always wanted to be; the perfect union of the two best breakfast foods. It’s changing the breakfast game, and is also absolutely delicious and stupid-easy to make.

Created by the brilliant hands of Jiselle Basile, a chef and food stylist over at Extra Crispy — a site devoted entirely to all things breakfast — this is a breakfast to be tried at least once (or once a week). Head on over to Extra Crispy for Basile’s recipe.
