BlackBerry Hamburg Manufacted By TCL Shows Up Online

blackberry-priv-review_ubergizmo_15
A couple of years ago, BlackBerry announced that it was outsourcing manufacturing of mid-range smartphones to contract manufacturers in a bid to save its ailing smartphone business. Rumor has it that the company is working with TCL Corporation for the mid-range Hamburg smartphone and now a TCL-made BlackBerry Hamburg has surfaced online, suggesting that this partnership is indeed real.

TCL Corporation is in the business of producing smartphones. It already produces them under the Alcatel brand, and if contracted, it will be manufacturing handsets for BlackBerry under the Canadian company’s branding.

A new listing at the Wi-Fi Alliance reveals that TCL has received certification for a new handset named DTEK 50 with model number STH100-2 (RJD211LW). The device is powered by Android Marshmallow with build number AAF295.

This means that either there’s a lot of coincidence in this listing or it’s now confirmed that BlackBerry and TCL are collaborating on a handset. There has been no official confirmation of a partnership between both companies so take all of this with a grain of salt for now until there’s an official announcement.

BlackBerry hasn’t confirmed yet when it’s going to come out with new handsets. It has been a while since the company released new smartphones and it’s expected to come out with a couple of handsets later this year.

Shelter Fakes Dog's Death To Free Her From Abusive Owner

If you met Lucy today, you’d see a playful pup eager to lick your hand. What you wouldn’t see is her painful past, which involved thousands of miles of travel and a faked death to escape an abusive owner.

In an effort to find Lucy a forever home, the Special Needs Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation, a U.S.-based nonprofit that works with international animal shelters, is sharing her inspiring story.

Last October, SNARR received a call from a sister shelter in Egypt, asking for their help.

Workers at the Egypt shelter knew of a young, purebred pit bull that was undernourished and covered with infections, and that had been beaten by her owner so badly, her jaw was broken. The workers wanted to rescue her, but they faced a problem: The dog’s owner was their landlord, with whom they shared a property.

After the owner rejected their offer to take the dog under their care, the shelter workers devised a plan that wouldn’t upset the abusive owner or risk the shelter losing its rented space.

They called SNARR and arranged to have the injured dog sent to the organization’s Philadelphia-based coordinator via a volunteer traveler who’d take her to New York.

“The shelter had to be very careful when getting the dog [off the property],” Lauren Connelly, SNARR’s foster coordinator, told The Huffington Post. “If they made the man mad, then the shelter couldn’t exist” — which would put all the animals under their care at risk.

So the volunteers waited until the owner left his property. Then they took the pup and sent her off to America. When the owner returned home, the shelter workers told him the dog had died.

According to Connelly, the owner never asked any questions about the dog.

By the time the dog reached Connelly in Philadelphia, her condition was dire. The young pit bull’s skin and her broken jaw were infected, and she was too afraid to leave her crate.

“The smell of [Lucy’s] infection would turn your stomach, it was awful,” Connelly told HuffPost. “Her jaw was so painful, she couldn’t eat. We had to make dog food soup so she can lick it up with her tongue.”

When Connelly brought Lucy — as she’d named the pit bull — to the veterinarian, professionals confirmed her violent past.

“The vet said that the jaw was broken in two places,” Connelly said — and the breaks appeared to be the result of blunt force. “She was either kicked or hit with something strong like a brick.”

After reconstructive jaw surgery, antibiotics and months of recovery, Lucy is finally living a love-filled life in Pittsburgh, in the foster care of a family with three young children.

By all accounts, Lucy is a very social 1-year-old pup with a happy-go-lucky personality. Her only issue is that she is initially frightened by men.

“Something to be aware of is that she is timid, especially around adult males (being abused by a man, this is not surprising),” SNARR workers explained in a Facebook post last week. “She does not become aggressive, but withdraws acting timid, shy, and hiding.”

But once she warms up to someone, Connelly says, Lucy is the friendliest dog you’ll ever meet. She loves to cuddle and lick people so much, SNARR shelter workers lovingly call her “Licky Lou.”

“She’s just like any other dog now,” Connelly told HuffPost. “You’d never know that anything had happened to her.”

If you’re interested in adopting Lucy, SNARR will transport her to approved families anywhere in the U.S. You can find the group’s contact information here.

Spain Votes In Parliamentary Elections As Far-Left Set To Rise

MADRID, June 26 (Reuters) – Spaniards voted on Sunday in a parliamentary election in which the anti-austerity party Podemos is expected to make big gains, potentially delivering a fresh jolt to Europe’s political mainstream after Britain voted to leave the European Union.

The last election, in December, broke the mould of 40 years of stable conservative or Socialist majorities and failed to produce a government, as upstart parties channeled growing resentment of the establishment following an economic crisis and a series of corruption scandals.

Turnout was 36.9 percent at 1200 GMT, the same reading as in December at the same time.

Opinion polls suggest the parliament that emerges this time will be just as fragmented as the previous one. Four big parties and six smaller regional ones are likely to win seats in the 350-strong assembly, none of them coming close to a majority.

The center-right People’s Party (PP) looks set to be the biggest party again, with around 120 seats. But its natural coalition partner, the liberal Ciudadanos (“Citizens”), appears likely to win only about 40 seats, leaving them well short of the 176 needed for a majority.

In theory, the rise of Unidos Podemos (“Together We Can”), a leftist alliance led by Podemos, could offer a way out. The 90 seats it is expected to win, combined with around 80 for the Socialist Party (PSOE), would be close to a majority. Support from some of the regional parties could enable them to form a government.

Many analysts believe, however, that the 137-year-old Socialist Party would prefer to form a ‘grand coalition’ with the PP, led by the acting prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, or give passive support to a minority PP government, rather than combine with a group that threatens their existence.

“This is a crucial time for the left. Our time has come. We have an opportunity for change,” said Carlos Martinez, a retired administrative clerk who cast his ballot for Unidos Podemos in the Arganzuela neighborhood, in the south of Madrid.

However, the 77-year-old, who voted in December for the former communists of United Left, now part of Unidos Podemos, said the anti-austerity alliance might find it hard to govern because other parties may coalesce to block it.

UNCERTAINTY

Such a scenario would have echoes of Greece, where a long-established center-left party, PASOK, joined a conservative-led government in 2012, only to find itself subsequently humiliated by the rise to power of the far-left Syriza party — which is close to Podemos.

After Britain’s vote to quit the EU, Greece’s Syriza prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, and Podemos leader Pablo Iglesias called for a re-launch of the European Union based on improved democracy, social protection and solidarity.

It is not clear what impact the result of the British referendum will have on the Spanish election.

Some voters said on Sunday they went for a “safe option” by backing the historically dominant PP and PSOE. Others said they were encouraged to vote for the insurgent Podemos. Like Martinez, though, many signaled the Brexit vote did not influence their choice

With summer holidays starting, there are also doubts about how many Spaniards will turn out to vote again, six months after an election that produced only political bickering.

Silvia Gea, a 39-year-old pharmacist from Madrid and long-time PP voter who cast her ballot for Ciudadanos in December, said she backed the PP this time around because she hoped it would help unlock the six-month stalemate.

Yet, she said she doubted political parties would reach an agreement any time soon. “I can see us coming back here to vote in six months time,” she said.

Britain's Major Political Parties Are In Disarray After Brexit

LONDON, June 26 (Reuters) – Britain’s two main parties were in open conflict on Sunday after a vote to leave the EU triggered an attempted “coup” in the main opposition Labour Party and a bitter leadership contest in the ruling Conservatives.

Both parties are reeling from the referendum result, when British voters rejected the arguments of their leaders and decided to leave the European Union in a vote which underscored the deep divisions in the country.

Prime Minister David Cameron has said he will resign — prompting a fierce battle to replace him — and several Labour lawmakers quit the party’s top policy team to try to force their leader, Jeremy Corbyn, from office.

It fell to Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to describe events as “a vacuum of leadership.”

“I look on at what’s happening in Westminster just now with a sense of utter despair on behalf of people across England and other parts of the UK as that vacuum of leadership both in the Tories and Labour develops,” Sturgeon told the BBC.

She also suggested the Brexit vote could see the departure of Scotland, which voted to remain in the EU, in a second independence referendum which could lead to the collapse of United Kingdom.

function onPlayerReadyVidible(e){‘undefined’!=typeof HPTrack&&HPTrack.Vid.Vidible_track(e)}!function(e,i){if(e.vdb_Player){if(‘object’==typeof commercial_video){var a=”,o=’m.fwsitesection=’+commercial_video.site_and_category;if(a+=o,commercial_video[‘package’]){var c=’&m.fwkeyvalues=sponsorship%3D’+commercial_video[‘package’];a+=c}e.setAttribute(‘vdb_params’,a)}i(e.vdb_Player)}else{var t=arguments.callee;setTimeout(function(){t(e,i)},0)}}(document.getElementById(‘vidible_1’),onPlayerReadyVidible);

Cameron has said he will stay on in his post until October to try to help reassure the public and markets, but his decision to announce his resignation immediately after the vote has unsettled those who campaigned to leave the European Union.

They say they will wait until a new eurosceptic leader is in place before triggering the process to leave the bloc as leading Conservatives jockey to take the mantle.

Former London mayor Boris Johnson, whose support for the leave camp galvanized the “Out” campaign, is favorite to replace Cameron but media have reported that there is a group of pro-Cameron lawmakers looking for “anyone but Boris.”

Foreign Minister Philip Hammond ruled himself out of the contest, but said: “It’s got to be somebody who can unite the Conservative Party … but it’s also got to be somebody with a credible strategy for dealing … with the challenge of negotiating an exit from the European Union without destroying our prosperity in the process.”

LABOUR DISARRAY

The deep divisions in Labour were also blown into the open when Corbyn sacked his foreign affairs policy chief, Hilary Benn, overnight because, as his spokesman said on Sunday, “he has lost confidence in him.”

A growing number of Labour lawmakers have called on Corbyn to resign in the aftermath of the vote to leave the EU. Some party members say he failed to assuage concern among the party’s traditional supporters; others that he should have campaigned more in favor of EU membership.

Two Labour politicians have submitted a motion of no confidence in Corbyn, which will be debated later this week.

Benn challenged Corbyn over his leadership, saying many lawmakers in the party had “no confidence in our ability to win the next election, which may come much sooner than expected.”

Several members of Corbyn’s ‘shadow cabinet’ – top policy chiefs who hold portfolios mirroring those of the government – resigned in protest at his leadership and others were set to follow.

But Corbyn, who was elected last year on a wave of enthusiasm for change among thousands of new, young Labour members, was “not going anywhere,” said his finance spokesman, John McDonnell.

“I know how disappointed people are about the loss of the European referendum, but now is the time we hold together.”

Instagram Will Soon Translate Captions And Profiles Automatically

instagram-translation
Instagram recently announced that it reached the 500 million user milestone. It’s a truly global service now that’s used by hundreds of millions of people across the globe to share photos and videos. Obviously, not all of them speak the same language but that doesn’t mean the language barrier should prevent people from enjoying the public content. Instagram has said that it’s going to start translating profiles and captions automatically soon.

The Facebook-owned company has said that in the coming month, users will start seeing a translation button on captions and profile bios that are written in languages different from their own.

This will make it very simple and easy to understand those captions and profile bios without having to copy and paste them into some other translation service like Google or Bing Translate. The translation will be done automatically within the app itself.

All profile bios, captions, and even comments will be supported by this feature. Whenever any of those things are in a language different from users you will see the translation button that’s going to make it easier for you to understand what’s written.

Instagram is yet to confirm precisely when this feature is going to be released and which languages will be supported by it at launch.

Microsoft Will Stop Surface 3 Production Later This Year

surface-3-4g-delay
It has been reported recently that Microsoft’s Surface 3 tablet is in short supply and getting your hands on one is proving to be difficult. Some suggested that perhaps Microsoft is reducing supply on its own and is now in the process of clearing inventory, and that’s really what it’s doing. The company has confirmed that it’s going to stop production of the Surface 3 tablet later this year.

It’s unclear whether Microsoft is going to release the successor to the Surface 3 this year or make us wait until 2017, but at least the company has confirmed that it won’t be producing more Surface 3 units a few months from now.

Microsoft announced the Surface 3 tablet back in May last year. This $499 Intel Atom-based tablet was primarily positioned towards students and budget-conscious users. They came with Windows 8.1 out of the box but are eligible for an upgrade to Windows 10. LTE versions of this tablet were later introduced as well.

A spokesperson for Microsoft said that since launching the Surface 3 over a year ago, the company has seen strong demand among are customers and that inventory is now limited. The spokesperson also confirmed that “by the end of December 2016, we will no longer manufacture Surface 3 devices.”

The company hasn’t said anything as yet about the successor to this tablet.
