Pokemon GO’s Devs May Crack Down On Third-Party Apps In The Future

pokemon-goSometimes the tools provided by the developers of a game isn’t quite enough, which is why for some games, developers have allowed other gamers to create additional features themselves such as mods and addons. In the case of Pokemon GO, we’re seeing a couple of third-party apps such as Poke Radar.

However it seems that apps like Poke Radar aren’t exactly sitting too well with Niantic Labs, the developers of Pokemon GO, and during an interview with Forbes, the company’s CEO John Hanke hinted that in the future, the developers might start cracking down on these apps by somehow making them stop working.

When asked about how he felt about such apps, Hanke said, “Yeah, I don’t really like that. Not a fan. We have priorities right now but they might find in the future that those things may not work. People are only hurting themselves because it takes some fun out of the game. People are hacking around trying to take data out of our system and that’s against our terms of service.”

Based on his statement, it sounds like these apps will keep operating for now, but in the future perhaps they will find a way to disable them, so we guess the best thing for players is to not get too reliant on such apps.

Pokemon GO Gamer Given Free Trip Around The World To Catch Pokemon

regional pokemon go mapYou guys might recall that a little over a week ago, we reported that a gamer going by the handle ftb_hodor managed to catch all 142 Pokemon in the US. Now it looks like his efforts are being rewarded because a report from Business Insider has revealed that the gamer, who goes by the name Nick Johnson in real-life, will be given a free trip around the world to catch Pokemon.

Now Pokemon fans will know that 142 isn’t the complete list of Pokemon, at least not as far as the classic game is concerned. In reality there are 151 Pokemon, but as far as the US is concerned, Johnson has managed to capture all that he can, which is why he will be sponsored by Marriott Rewards and Expedia to fly around the world to catch region-exclusive Pokemon.

Johnson and his girlfriend will be flown to Paris first where he will attempt to locate and catch Mr. Mime. He will later be sent to Hong Kong where he will try to capture Farfetch’d, and then he will be flying to Sydney, Australia where he will catch Kangaskhan. His last stop will be in Japan for a little R&R. Johnson stated that he will rely on each country’s Pokemon community to help point him in the right direction.

Speaking to Business Insider, Johnson says, “I will be scouring Reddit on my flight over and have a battle plan by the time I get there. I will travel across the land, searching far and wide. Basically.”

GameStop Accepting Console Trade-Ins For The Xbox One S

xbox one sAre you planning on getting your hands on the upcoming Xbox One S? We know, it might seem like a waste to have two consoles at home since you can only play one at a time, but the good news is that it looks like according to a report from DualShockers, GameStop is currently accepting trade-ins, meaning that you can trade-in your old console for the Xbox One S.

Of course you won’t be getting a 1-for-1 trade-in. Gamers who trade-in consoles like the PS4 or Xbox One will get up to $200 and $150 in trade credit respectively, while gamers who bring in consoles like the Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS handheld console will only get up to $100. We say “up to” because depending on the condition of your console, there is a chance you might not get all of it.

However if you were already planning on buying the Xbox One S anyway, we suppose saving yourself the odd $100 isn’t such a bad idea. Given that the 500GB Xbox One S starts at $300, if you can knock $100-$200 off, it’s actually a pretty decent deal.

It also appears to be usable towards bundles like the Madden NFL bundle, the 500GB Halo bundle, and the Gears of War 4 bundle. The Xbox One S has been scheduled for a release in August, and the deal with GameStop seems to be only valid for 1 day which is the 30th of July, so you’ll want to hurry if you want to get in on it.

Gamer Pays $1,300 For Leaked Copy Of No Man’s Sky

no mans skyNo Man’s Sky has been set for a release on the 9th of August, and the 12th of August for gamers on PC. This means that gamers have about 1-2 weeks of waiting to do before they can officially get their hands on the game. However it seems that one gamer decided that he did not want to wait, and has reportedly paid $1,300 for a leaked copy of the game.

According to the gamer who goes by the handle “daymeeuhn” on Reddit, he claims that he found a leaked copy of the game being sold on eBay where he paid $1,250 for it, with an extra $50+ for shipping. To prove that the leak was real, he even recorded a video of him opening the package and installing it on his PS4.

Unsurprisingly the folks at Hello Games weren’t too happy about this and have since taken to Twitter to warn gamers not to watch the footage as it does contain spoilers. “We’ve spent years filling No Man’s Sky with surprises. You’ve spent years waiting. Please don’t spoil it for yourself :(“ However for those who absolutely have to see what the game is about, daymeeuhn has uploaded the footage onto DailyMotion, but don’t say we didn’t warn you!

As for his justification for paying so much for a game that is going to be released soon, he says, “I’m a lucky guy. I’ve done well for myself. I have disposable income and I’m happy in life. I’m in a state of being where I don’t look at a purchase and determine the overall value by the price tag, but rather by how much happiness it will bring myself or the people I care about.”

This Is How Much Space You’ll Need For The PlayStation VR

playstation vr spaceVirtual reality is more than just popping a headset on your head, unless all you’re doing is just watch a movie. If you plan on playing games that involves controllers, this is where it gets more tricky because not only does your computer need to be able to support the headset, so does your room.

By that we mean that you’ll probably want to make sure you have enough space around you so that you don’t hit the wall or knock things over. Now if you are planning on getting Sony PlayStation VR, a pamphlet has made its way onto Imgur (via Polygon) which shows you how much space is required for you to play comfortably.

Assuming this pamphlet is the real deal and it is for the PlayStation VR, it has been suggested that players will need 9.8 feet of space in length of the room, and 6.2 feet in width. It also requires users to have a 2 foot dead zone in front of the PlayStation Camera which is used for tracking purposes.

This isn’t to say that you can’t play the game if you have a smaller room, it’s just that maybe you won’t be able to move as freely as you’d like, but either way perhaps now’s a good time to start measuring your play area and to start shifting things around. In the meantime the PlayStation VR has been scheduled for a release on the 13th of October.

Diablo 3’s Auriel Coming To Heroes Of The Storm Next Month

Earlier this month Blizzard unveiled two new heroes for Heroes of the Storm. Warcraft’s Gul’dan was one of them, and the other is Auriel from Diablo 3 where she is one of the archangels from the Diablo universe. For those interested in playing a support hero, Auriel will be the latest one added to the game, and she has been set for a release on the 8th of August.

Gamers who have access to the Public Test Realm will be able to take her for a spin next week before her public release, but if you’d rather not spoil it for yourself, then maybe you should wait. Like we said, Auriel will be a support hero and will be capable of healing her allies. She will come with healing skills like Ray of Hope, and Heroic Abilities such as Crystal Aegis and Resurrect.

According to Blizzard’s description, “It is through the Archangel Auriel that the power of hope flows into the fabric of creation. Her eternal light illuminates even the darkest souls. Seeking harmony in all things, she is a mediator, a counselor, and when the need arises, a fearless warrior.“

She will also come with damaging abilities, but her role as support means that you probably shouldn’t expect to deal too much damage, at least not compared to heroes with the Assassin trait. In the meantime you can check Auriel out in action in the video trailer above.

Apple Watch 2 Rumored To Have A Thinner Display

Apple Watch-3-Up-PRINTIt has been about a year since Apple launched the Apple Watch, and last we heard, its successor has been planned for a launch later this year, possibly in September or October. So far not much is known about the second-gen Apple Watch, meaning that there’s a good chance Apple will be keeping the form factor.

However it is possible that Apple could make the Apple Watch 2 thinner and lighter than before. This is according to a report from DigiTimes (via MacRumors) who claims that the second-gen Apple Watch could go for a “One Glass Solution” for its display versus the current setup which is a “Glass on Glass” build.

This essentially eliminates one extra layer of glass from the display, ultimately making the entire watch thinner and lighter. Alternatively Apple could use the extra space from the removal of the glass to add extra components, or maybe stuff in a beefier battery (the Apple Watch’s battery life is one of its main criticism).

Now other than the rumored change to its display, logically speaking Apple will most likely introduce a faster processor, maybe more RAM, a bigger battery, and maybe even cellular connectivity, but either way do take it with a grain of salt and remember to check back with us in the coming months for the details.

Sony Has Shipped 43.5 Million PS4 Units To Retailers

ps4While Sony’s mobile division is exactly doing very well at the moment, it shouldn’t really bother the company because it looks like the company’s gaming division is doing quite well. According to the latest numbers from Sony, the company has revealed that they have managed to ship 43.5 million units of the PS4 to retailers to date.

Note that these are units shipped to retailers, which means that not all 43.5 million units have been sold. However given that last we heard back in April that Sony had sold 40 million PS4 consoles, we guess it’s safe to assume that the number of units shipped is pretty close to the number of units sold.

According to Sony, the company believes that they will be able to sell an additional 20 million PS4 units through the end of the company’s 2016 fiscal year. With 3.5 million units sold, this means that the company plans on selling an additional 16.5 million from now until the 30th of March. With the holiday season at the end of the year, it is possible that Sony could hit their goal.

However we should also remind you that Sony has a newer PS4 in the works codenamed “Neo”. With gamers knowing about this, it is possible that some gamers will hold back from purchasing a PS4 now if they know that a newer and better model is on its way, but we guess we’ll have to wait and see Sony’s new numbers to determine if the announcement of the Neo would have impacted their predictions.

Tekken 7 Will Have A Proper Single-Player Experience

Tekken 7There are some games in which the storyline isn’t as important as the gameplay. For example games like Call of Duty or Battlefield don’t really need to have a fully fleshed out backstory full of lore and history for it to be fun, and neither do arcade fighting games, although we guess it would be nice if players knew the character’s background story a bit more.

The good news for Tekken 7 gamers is that according to Bandai Namco, the company has promised that they will be creating a proper single-player experience for gamers. This means that if you want to learn more about the story and the characters, Bandai Namco will not be neglecting that aspect of the game.

According to Bandai Namco Games America Brand Manager Mark Religioso who spoke to DualShockers, “What we’re kinda seeing now with the trends in fighting games, is that fans want more than the core fighting experience, they also want a full fleshed-out single player experience, which is why we’re pursuing story mode so hard in this game. We’re really integrating it in a special way where it goes from in-game cinematics to actual gameplay with a lot of dialogue between characters, so you can really experience and feel that story.”

Sounds like a pretty good plan and we’re sure that many gamers are excited to get their hands on the game, which last we checked will only be seeing a release on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2017.

The SunFriend Personal UV Monitor keeps your tan in check

Sun Friend

We should all spend more time outside, but unless we’re prompted by Pokemon GO, good luck getting us to go anywhere. If you do start to venture out into the sun’s rays more often, you need to give your skin proper protection from the sun. While sunscreen will certainly help, different skin types have differing sensitivities to UV exposure, and it’s hard to tell when you’ve gotten enough sun for the day.

While gadgets like the Sunscreenr will help you make sure you’ve hit all the right spots with sunscreen, the SunFriend will tell you when you’ve had enough UV exposure in general. This bracelet will help make sure you’re getting enough Vitamin D without overdoing it on UV exposure. Since it is very likely to be used in or near water, it is waterproof down to 3 meters, and you don’t have to worry about it connecting to your phone to tell you anything important.

When you’re gallivanting out in the sunshine, you’ll want to pay attention to whether or not the LEDs are all lit up. Should they all be screaming at you with their tiny flashing lights, you’ll know it’s time to call it a day on the sun exposure. You’ll have to pick the proper sensitivity, and if you still get burned that likely means your picked the wrong one. There are color choices of black, citrus orange, grey, ocean blue, or spring green, but it all depends on what you want sitting on your wrist. For whatever reason, you’ll also have to make that decision in a price range of $16-45 depending on the color you choose.
