OvRcharge wireless charger makes your phone levitate

We’ve seen levitating products with increasing frequency, one of the coolest ones being that Mars levitating speaker. Equally fascinating is a newly surfaced wireless phone charger that causes your smartphone to levitate above the charging base: OvRcharge. The device is being funded on the crowdfunding website Kickstarter, where the company behind it, AR Designs, details the voodoo that makes this … Continue reading

Dolly The Sheep’s Clones Are Healthy

dolly clonesCloning is a concept that’s probably been on the mind of many scientists decades ago, and back in 1996, scientists achieved a breakthrough in which they successfully cloned their first mammal in the form of Dolly the sheep. Naturally some questions were raised regarding cloning, such as is it safe, and will clones die earlier than their un-cloned counterparts?

This fear was brought on by the fact that Dolly lived for about 6.5 years despite having a life expectancy of 11-12 years, and this was due to progressive lung disease and severe arthritis. However it seems that we might have nothing to worry about because a University of Nottingham study found that Dolly’s genomic clones – Daisy, Debbie, Denise, and Dianna – are healthy with no signs of premature aging.

Before you get too excited about a world filled with cloned humans, a report from the New York Times has pointed out that it seems more of an anomaly that clones can live healthily for so long, as very few cloned embryos actually make it to adulthood, with many even failing before they are born. This means that the cloning process isn’t necessarily perfect just yet.

Let’s not forget that there are also ethical issues with regards to cloning, with some arguing that we as humans are trying to play god, but we suppose that’s a debate for another day.

Windows 10 For Education Will Not Come With Cortana

Cortana windows 10Introducing a voice assistant like Cortana to a computer operating system was a pretty nice touch by Microsoft. It helps promote the use of the feature which could prompt users to download it for their phones, and it also makes it unique in terms of operation, which is why when Apple announced similar plans for Siri, we weren’t that surprised.

That being said, it seems that while Cortana on Windows 10 is one of the platform’s more unique features, Microsoft has decided that for the education versions of Windows 10, they will not be bundling Cortana with the platform, although we’re not sure why that is, but it looks like students will not be able to use the feature.

“Windows 10 Pro Education builds on the commercial version of Windows 10 Pro and provides important management controls needed in schools. Windows 10 Pro Education is effectively a variant of Windows 10 Pro that provides education-specific default settings, including the removal of Cortana.”

Perhaps it’s a privacy issue, or maybe they don’t want students to use Cortana to bypass any safeguards that educators might have put in place, but either way we suppose the focus here would be more on the educational value of the platform rather than Cortana.

Sennheiser Unveils PC 373D Gaming Headset With A Surround Dongle

sennheiser-pc-373dAre gaming headsets a necessity? Some might argue that they are. This is because some gamers do rely on sound to be more aware of their surroundings and where the enemy might be. Now if you are a particularly competitive gamer or if just want to have an edge over your friends, you might be interested in checking out Sennheiser’s latest offering.

Sennheiser is a company known for their audio products like consumer headphones, and less for gaming headsets, but if you like the brand then the PC 373D might be of interest to you. This is a headset that that company claims will provide the wearer with 7.1 Dolby Surround sound, and there is even a Surround Dongle that basically lets users toggle between surround and stereo.

For example when listening to music, stereo might be a better option, but when playing games or watching movies, surround might produce a better effect. There is a built-in microphone to allow users to chat with teammates. It even has noise cancellation so that when you speak into it, the background noise will be shut out, or at least reduced.

Unfortunately this headset will not come cheap as it is priced at $275. It is expected to be made available by the end of the month, so if you are in the market for premium gaming headphones, maybe the Sennheiser PC 373D could be it.

Driver Crashes Car Into Game Developer’s Office, Claims They Ruined His Life

nexon car crashSure, many of us have had frustrating moments when it comes to game developers, such as questioning how they could have implemented certain features, why they changed certain aspects of the game, the price, the in-app purchases, and so on. To take out our frustration, some might have sent in emails, posted on social media, or just ranted about it to friends.

However a Chinese man named Lee decided that the best way to show his frustration was to take a car and drive it literally into the offices of Nexon, who for those unfamiliar developed popular titles such as MapleStory and Atlantica Online. Lee’s excuse was that he was drunk, and secondly he also blamed the company for apparently ruining his life by making him so addicted to their games.

Lee was said to be on vacation in South Korea which was when he decided to take the car, belonging to his brother, and crashing it into Nexon’s offices. The company has yet to comment on the incident, but presumably Lee has been arrested and will be facing charges for his actions. That being said, Lee’s addiction isn’t as rare as you might think.

In the past we have seen how games have made gamers so addicted and so unaware of their surroundings that they have neglected their own health, or in worse cases, they neglect the health of their own children.

Sony Confirms 13 PlayStation VR Games Are In Development In Asia

playstation_vrLater this year Sony is expected to launch the PlayStation VR, and while it might be the cheapest of the bunch (assuming you already own the PS4), there really is no point if it doesn’t have any games, right? Now during E3 Sony did confirm several PlayStation VR titles were in the works, but during their press conference in Hong Kong, the company confirmed an additional 13 titles.

According to Sony, these 13 PlayStation VR titles are currently being developed in Asia, presumably for the Asian region, although we suppose it wouldn’t be surprising if they found their way stateside. The games are being developed by various studios across Asia, such as Singapore, China, Korea, and Taiwan, just to name a few.

The titles include Stifled, O! My Genesis VR, The Occasional Encounter, Unearthing Mars, Mortal Blitz VR, The School: Swan Song, Ace Banana, Mixip, Kill X VR, Weeping Doll, Pixel Gear, Dying Reborn, and Phantom World. We’re not sure about the details of those games listed, but if anything it does help to bolster the platform’s library of games.

That being said, PlayStation VR is expected to be launched on the 13th of October. Pre-orders for the device have been sold out meaning that if you did not pre-order beforehand, you’ll have to head on over to the store on launch day and hope that there are units left for you. However according to Sony’s earlier statement, it seems that they believe that supply will be constrained at the start, so good luck!

Using A VPN In United Arab Emirates Could Land You In Jail

high-speed-internetThere are many people out there who use VPNs not for nefarious reasons, but for simple and innocent reasons, like maybe to access websites that are being blocked by the government, or accessing content that might be geo-restricted, and so on. However it seems that over in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), using a VPN could land you in jail, and be slapped with a hefty fine.

According to a royal edict from the President of the UAE, they have made some changes to the law which now reads, “Whoever uses a fraudulent computer network protocol address (IP address) by using a false address or a third-party address by any other means for the purpose of committing a crime or preventing its discovery, shall be punished by temporary imprisonment and a fine of no less than Dhs 500,000 and not exceeding Dhs 2,000,000, or either of these two penalties.”

In case you’re wondering, that equates to about $136,130 and $544,521 after conversion, which are obviously some rather stiff and harsh penalties. So if you have plans to visit the UAE for business or pleasure, and have typically relied on VPNs, maybe it’s a good idea to disable them during your stay in the country, lest you find yourself in jail or hit with a very, very expensive fine.
