Have you ever seen a blimp? If you’ve never seen one in real-life, there’s a good chance you might have seen one in photos and in movies/TV shows, and you know that they are huge. Given the surface area of a blimp, checking for leaks manually and by using humans would be a very tedious task, and it could also mean that there could be spots that might be missed.
Looking to make checking for leaks more efficient and taking out the possible human error element, the folks at Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works lab have developed a robot called the SPIDER whose job is to check their blimps for any leaks. The name of the robot is rather apt as the robot certainly crawls around the blimp in a way that is reminiscent of a spider.
So how does the robot work? Basically the robot is two part: one part will crawl along the outside of the ship, while the other will go on the inside of the blimp’s surface. The outer robot will shine light on the blimp’s fabric and the robot on the inside will detect any pinhole light (thus indicating a leak) with its sensors, and when a leak is detected, it will patch it up.
It sounds and looks like a pretty cool process so if you have a couple of minutes to spare, you can check the SPIDER out in action in the video above.

When it comes to smartphones, we’re certainly hearing a lot less noise from Sony these days, but that doesn’t mean that they have given up. In fact just recently several photos have been making their rounds showing off a handset with the model number F833X. So the question is, when will the phone be announced?
Turns out there is a very good chance it will be announced at IFA. IFA is usually a great platform for companies like Sony and Samsung to announce new products, as we have seen in the past, and Sony has recently confirmed their presence by scheduling a press conference for the 1st of September.
While we can’t say with certainty what Sony will launch, the timing of these leaked photos certainly seems to suggest that the company has some new phones in the works. Of course since Sony is more than just about phones, like TVs, cameras, and more, there is a possibility that their IFA conference could touch on other products as well.
However there have been rumors earlier this month that suggests that Sony will unveil at least one handset at IFA, but either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled. That being said, we should note that Sony has recently stated that they will be focusing less on the US markets, so what we see at IFA might not necessarily make its way stateside.

Pokemon GO is slowly taking over the world, and given the cultural impact that the Pokemon franchise has had on players young and old, safe to say that there are millions of players around the world roaming world trying to collect Pokemon. Now there is a time and a place to play the game, and previously we reported that one shrine in Japan had actually banned the game.
We suppose it’s fair as they probably don’t want gamers trampling over the sacred grounds and making a lot of noise in a place that’s meant to promote peace and serenity. We expected many other temples and shrines to follow suit, but interestingly enough over in Kyoto, at least one Buddhist temple is actually welcoming Pokemon GO gamers with open arms.
The temple has announced that gamers are more than welcome to come onto its grounds in search of Pokemon. They also announced that they will be transforming itself into a Pokemon gym, or at least partially. There are even free cell phone chargers provided so that gamers low on battery will be able to recharge themselves and keep playing.
We have to admit it is a rather nice gesture, but hopefully players will also be able to moderate themselves and not make too much of a ruckus in consideration of other visitors who are there on non-Pokemon business.

Charleston Church Shooting Survivors Explain Why Clinton Offers Needed Change
Posted in: Today's ChiliPHILADELPHIA ― Felicia Sanders and Polly Sheppard, two of the three people who survived a shooting at the Mother Emanuel Church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, last year, made an impassioned call for love and racial unity on Wednesday.
Dylann Roof is accused of killing nine people inside the church in June 2015, including Sanders’ son, 26-year-old Tywanza. Sanders called her fallen son her hero before explaining why she forgave Roof.
“Hate destroys those who harbor it,” she said on stage at the Democratic National Convention. “I refuse to let hate destroy me.”
She also referenced the “Charleston loophole,” a flaw in the FBI’s system that allowed Roof to legally purchase a firearm before his background check had been completed.
“After that fateful day, Hillary Clinton called on lawmakers to close the Charleston loophole,” Sanders said.
“No one should feel what I’ve seen. No one should feel how we feel, how we suffered,” she continued. “The Bible tells us that if we humble ourselves, pray and turn from our wicked ways, God will forgive us and heal our land. Let us heed God’s word and, in turn, may God heal our nation.”
Sheppard presented a message about healing and forgiveness before explaining why she stands behind Clinton.
“Hillary was in South Carolina the day before the shooting and in the days that followed,” Sheppard said. “She talked about the hatred in our nation, the racism, the injustice. She said that we can’t hide from these truths. She called on us to name them and own them and change them.”
“Together, we can fight for that change,” she added. “Together, we can heal. Together, we can love.”
