Who Needs an Apple Snapchat? Old People Like Me

Apple is reportedly working on its own Snapchat clone. It would join companies like Twitter and Facebook who are furiously trying to copy the features that have made the image and video sharing app popular with younger users. Young people are important, sure, but where Apple is uniquely positioned to succeed is in building a Snapchat for text-addicted old people like me.

Dji Is Launching a Drone Training Arena in Korea

Maybe you want to buy a drone. but you are intimidated and feel like you need some training first. It’s understandable given how expensive drones are. You don’t want to spend thousands of dollars and have it crash on the first flight. Well, DJI wants to make it easier for you. The company has launched the DJI Arena, a drone flying and training arena in South Korea that will help drone owners learn to fly.

The training facility has various obstacles that drone owners can fly their drones through, which will help them learn to be ace pilots or at least passable flyers. DJI Korea Country Manager Moon Tae-hyun says “The opening of the DJI Arena is our commitment to the development of the local UAV market. There is huge potential in how UAV technologies can change the way people see the world and create positive impact to people’s lives. Our goal is to make aerial technology more accessible, reliable and easier to use for anyone who wants to use it.”

Just like car drivers, some people could definitely use extra training. I think it’s a pretty cool idea, and hope they set up a U.S. facility someday.

xiaomi-redmi-note-4
Xiaomi today announced the launch of a brand new handset called the Redmi Note 4. It touts a 5.5-inch full HD display with 2.5D curved glass. The handset has a full metal body with chamfered edges that lend a premium feel to it. The Redmi Note 4 has respectable specifications and in true Xiaomi fashion it has been competitively priced.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is powered by a 10 core MediaTek Helio X20 processor reaching clock speeds of up to 2.1GHz. It also features a 13 megapixel rear camera, up to 64GB of internal storage with microSD card support, LTE as well as an “ultra-fast” fingerprint sensor.

Xiaomi appears to have omitted some crucial bits of information from the press release announcing the launch of the Redmi Note 4. It doesn’t mention how much RAM this handset has or whether it has a USB Type-C port or sticks with the more common microUSB port. Official pictures show that it has the latter.

The company is going to start selling this handset starting tomorrow in silver, gold and dark grey colors via Mi.com, Mi Home stores in China as well as through China Mobile’s offline and online sales channels. The base 16GB model of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 costs around $140, it’s a very good deal at this price, but it’s not available to customers in the U.S. as Xiaomi is yet to launch its smartphones in the country. The company has said that its smartphones will be landing in the United States very soon.

Anglr is Fitbit for fishing

Screen Shot 2016-08-25 at 9.26.23 AM As an avid non-fisher it’s hard for me to quite grasp the depths of depravity associated with a fishing trip. Waking up at 4am? Swinging a pole at some water? Drinking beers all morning in a hot boat? Catching and eating a squirming live thing? Not for me. The folks at Anglr want to change my mind. Their product, the Anglr Tracker, is an activity tracker for fishing. You attach it to… Read More
