Ex-Trump Staffer Accused Of Assaulting Reporter Values His Own Personal Space

It turns out Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, who in March was accused of assaulting a reporter and was shown on video appearing to grab a protester by the collar, values his own personal space.

During an interview Monday on CNN, Lewandowski, now a CNN political commentator, clashed with Christine Quinn, vice chair of the New York Democratic Party, over Trump’s ongoing attack of a Muslim-American couple whose son, Army Capt. Humayun S.M. Khan, was killed in 2004 while fighting in Iraq.

“Don’t touch me!” Lewandowski shouted, after Quinn gently grazed his hand in an attempt to keep from being interrupted. He added that she needs to “relax.”

In a moving speech last week at the Democratic National Convention, the soldier’s father, Khizr Khan, said Trump has “sacrificed nothing and no one.”

Trump has since attempted to defend himself against Khan’s criticism, and suggested his wife, Ghazala Khan, kept quiet during the convention because of their faith. Ghazala Khan said later that she didn’t speak because she knew she would lose her composure when the convention displayed photographs of her son.

Lewandowski said on CNN that Trump has a right to defend himself against the Khan family’s public “attacks,” and that “if Donald Trump were president, Capt. Khan would still be alive today because we never would have entered the Iraq War in the first place.”

Quinn called Trump’s statements about Khan’s mother “ridiculous” and “outrageously un-American.”

“Any decent person who saw Mrs. Khan on stage could see the pain and grief on her face,” Quinn said. “And any person who has lost anyone, or even any person who’s been so blessed they haven’t, could understand why she couldn’t talk, even all these years later, about losing her son in the way she lost him.”

When Lewandowski tried to interject, Quinn snapped back. That’s when Lewandowski told her, “you gotta relax a little bit” and to keep her hands to herself.

“Oh calm down,” Quinn responded. “I’m not going to relax, because we have a man running for president of the United States who made a Gold Star mother have to go on TV and cry in front of America. … This isn’t about politics, this isn’t about presidential campaigns. It’s not even about me nicely touching your arm. It is about decency.”

Joe Biden Officiates Same-Sex Wedding For White House Staffers

Vice President Joe Biden officiated a wedding Monday for two longtime White House staffers.

The marriage of Brian Mosteller and Joe Mahshie was the first time Biden officiated a ceremony, the vice president’s office told CNN in a statement. Biden obtained a temporary certification from the District of Columbia.

“Proud to marry Brian and Joe at my house,” Biden tweeted. “Couldn’t be happier, two longtime White House staffers, two great guys.”

Mosteller serves as special assistant to the president and director of Oval Office operations. Mahshie is a trip coordinator for Michelle Obama, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The wedding was attended only by the immediate family, NBC reported. The ceremony took place at the vice president’s residence on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Observatory in Northwest Washington.

Biden’s wife, Jill, tweeted, “Love is love!” in response to her husband’s tweet.

The vice president’s tweet had more than 16,000 retweets and 50,000 likes by late Monday ― further evidence that Biden will be sorely missed when the Obama administration leaves office next year.

This Giant Pikachu Statue Is The 'Pokemonument' We Need

An anonymous artist has, perhaps illegally, taken the Pokemon Go craze to a whole new level.

A large Pikachu statue popped up overnight in New Orleans’ Coliseum Square Park on Sunday. Reddit user “Salamanagement” posted a picture of the statue later that day, and fans began visiting the figure

The “Pokemonument,” nicknamed after the inscription on the back of the statue, is made of fiberglass, but painted to look bronze. The statue seems like it was made with careful planning — the base fits perfectly in the spot where a fountain used to sit.

City officials have yet to make a statement on whether the statue will remain in the park. Nearby residents said they’re not against the idea of letting Pikachu stay.

It’s a defunct fountain,” Karen Reese, a member of the park’s neighborhood association, told online news site Uptown Messenger. “It’s actually on our list of fountains to get running again. So as long as it’s sitting here without any water flowing, it’s okay with me.”

Below, check out the giant Pikachu in its faux-bronzed glory:

Military Mom Booed For Questioning Trump’s Attack On Khan Family

At first, a pro-Donald Trump crowd gathered at a town hall event Monday night in Carson City, Nevada, cheered for a mother whose son is serving in the U.S. Air Force.

But when the self-described “military mom” confronted Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, Trump’s vice presidential running mate, over Trump’s attacks on a fallen war hero’s parents, the crowd quickly turned on her.

“Time and time again,” the woman said, “Trump has disrespected our nation’s armed forces and veterans. And his disrespect for Mr. Khan and his family …”

Although the booing and sneering from the audience began to drown out her words, she continued speaking to Pence: “You’ve got a son in the military. How do you tolerate this disrespect?”

function onPlayerReadyVidible(e){‘undefined’!=typeof HPTrack&&HPTrack.Vid.Vidible_track(e)}!function(e,i){if(e.vdb_Player){if(‘object’==typeof commercial_video){var a=”,o=’m.fwsitesection=’+commercial_video.site_and_category;if(a+=o,commercial_video[‘package’]){var c=’&m.fwkeyvalues=sponsorship%3D’+commercial_video[‘package’];a+=c}e.setAttribute(‘vdb_params’,a)}i(e.vdb_Player)}else{var t=arguments.callee;setTimeout(function(){t(e,i)},0)}}(document.getElementById(‘vidible_1’),onPlayerReadyVidible);

As seen in the video, the crowd taunted the woman, later identified as Catherine Byrne, even as she held up a photo of her uniformed son. Eventually, Pence stepped in to hush the crowd.

“That’s all right,” Pence said, adding, “That’s what freedom looks like, and that’s what freedom sounds like” ― a line he had used against protestors he encountered in Ohio on Friday.

After quieting the crowd, Pence thanked the woman for the service of her son and her family.

Pence went on to praise U.S. Army Capt. Humayun Khan, 27, a Muslim immigrant who was killed in Iraq in 2004 while saving the lives of his fellow soldiers.

In a moving speech last week at the Democratic National Convention, the slain soldier’s father, Khizr Khan, criticized Trump’s anti-Muslim rhetoric and said the businessman “has sacrificed nothing and no one.” Khan and his wife, Ghazala, have spoken against Trump several times since.

In response, Trump has claimed his sacrifices have included the construction of buildings and the creation of jobs. Trump suggested Ghazala Khan wasn’t allowed to speak during the convention and questioned whether Hillary Clinton’s campaign wrote Khizr Khan’s speech.

Many GOP senators have condemned Trump’s attacks on the Khans, who are honored as a Gold Star family. Pence, however, continued to defend Trump during Monday’s rally.

“Capt. Khan is an American hero and we honor him and honor his family,” Pence told the Nevada crowd, adding that the soldier’s story is an “incredibly inspiring” one.

But “having spent time with our nominee,” Pence said of Trump, “I have never been around someone more devoted to the armed forces of this country, more devoted to the families of our [service members] and no one more devoted to the veterans in our country.”

Bryne told CBS News that she liked Pence’s response about Capt. Khan and his family. But she said he didn’t fully answer her question about Trump’s disrespect toward the Khan family.

Pence’s answer echoed a statement he released Sunday on Facebook, in which he called Capt. Khan an American hero whose “family, like all Gold Star families, should be cherished by every American.”

Emotional Compost

Herein lies a singular challenge to unlocking our potential within. We must first uncover the individual hiding under all the demands of life and work. Everything accumulates. The childhood, the relationships and the hurts. The good and the bad. The complicated and the beautiful. It piles and piles. Tucks away and perseveres. Buries and moves on. Life moves forward whether ready or not. All of which stunts our personal potential. I love imagery and connection. I think about the personification of all this stuff. What would it look like if we could 3D print our emotions? Look. Examine. Hold. Then recycle when necessary. Scope, dissect then toss. Wouldn’t that be fantastic? The nature of our multifaceted lives reminds me of one of my favorite and most disgusting childhood poems, Sarah Silvia Cynthia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage Out, written by Shel Silverstein.

She simply would not take the garbage out.
And so it piled up to the ceilings:
Coffee grounds, potato peelings,
Brown bananas, rotten peas,
Chunks of sour cottage cheese.
It filled the can, it covered the floor,
It cracked the window and blocked the door

At last the garbage reached so high
That it finally touched the sky.
And all the neighbors moved away,
And none of her friends would come to play.
And finally Sarah Cynthia Stout said,
“OK, I’ll take the garbage out!”
But then, of course, it was too late. . .
The garbage reached across the state,
From New York to the Golden Gate.
And there, in the garbage she did hate,

It grew and grew. The garbage took over the kitchen, the house, it oozed out of windows and pored out the door. Lastly it overtook Ms. Stout herself. The lesson learned from Sarah Cynthia Silvia Stout: take the garbage out! If you don’t take out the trash it accumulates in piles and piles and piles of garbage. All our personal garbage, quite literally, suffocates the person within. In life, love and work we’ve got to take out our trash or risk feeling like a giant compost bin. So much personal garbage fermenting, rotting, smelling, molding. Rancid in the soul. Survive the teens, graduate from college, begin a job, major heartbreak and life keeps moving. Simple enough. Here a little there a little. More and more. All tucked away in the active compost of memory and heartache. The years and years of composted memory create heat and activity. A veritable hotbed. Bubbling. Ripe. Like the fetid garbage bin in the summer sun so our souls writhe and wrench with human emotional backup. Hurt, disappointment, fear and pain mask true potential and happiness. Emotions tucked away and locked up in personal dump zones get messy. Acrid. Jack Donahue, of Thirty Rock knew just what to do, he crushed his feelings with his “giant man vice.” We should post a warning, beware toxic dump area. Please excuse, “I haven’t taken the garbage out for years.”

With out maintenance the chambers of the heart and the corridors of the mind suffocate from all the fumes. Instead of living, loving and leading we are full time waste management workers. Gross. And a total waste of time, heart and energy. Take out the damn trash. Sort and recycle. Our potential is buried and our dreams dampened. In this overrun state our body and mind grow out of sync. We become emotionally, spiritually and physically bereft–a perpetual, lowgrade state of grief. Mourning what could have been? Who could have been?

If only I could hold an hourglass in my hands and slow time. To catch a breath, process and heal. Personally, I have never been one of those people who can tap my belly and pat my head at the same time, a contradiction in motion. The slow of thinking and healing and the speed of living. Our day can move from one challenge to the next and onto another all before breakfast, while hurts and disapoinments stagnate and aggregate. Heartache. Sickness. Death. Mortgage. Job. Personal paralysis. Living and working well beneath potential and dreams. Pile and pile. More and more. Sometimes all we can do is keep up with the task directly in front of us. A hamster on a wheel. If only time could stand still so one could learn how to live. Breathe. Feel. Discover. Perhaps a little spring cleaning.

After fudging my way through my twenties and treading water in my thirties, I decided to take stalk. To deal, heal and recover. All of my earlier hopes, dreams and identity were festering in the overripe compost of my soul. I decided it was definitely time to clean house. Take out the trash. Dust off my dreams. And move forward. My solution:

  1. Schedule time to think. Journal. Physically make time slow down.
  2. Make changes and do differently.
  3. Deploy a deliberate search and rescue for strengths, passions and dreams.
  4. Face fears fearlessly (or try).

I wish I could tell you that my efforts to clean up were an immediate success. They were not. Like Silvia, “in the garbage I did hate.” Picking myself up out of my self-created waste-zone has taken time. Uncovering the me in me: painstaking. In the process, I have learned a lot. Cleanup doesn’t happen overnight. However, I absolutely believe that potential will resonate when there is harmony between head and heart. Between dreams and reality. It is paramount to sort, uncover and recover. The process can unearth potential and reveal a best version of ourselves.

Donald Trump Calls Hillary Clinton 'The Devil'

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has long demonized his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton, such as referring to her as “Crooked Hillary,” his chosen nickname.

But on Monday night, he went even further, actually calling her “the devil.”

function onPlayerReadyVidible(e){‘undefined’!=typeof HPTrack&&HPTrack.Vid.Vidible_track(e)}!function(e,i){if(e.vdb_Player){if(‘object’==typeof commercial_video){var a=”,o=’m.fwsitesection=’+commercial_video.site_and_category;if(a+=o,commercial_video[‘package’]){var c=’&m.fwkeyvalues=sponsorship%3D’+commercial_video[‘package’];a+=c}e.setAttribute(‘vdb_params’,a)}i(e.vdb_Player)}else{var t=arguments.callee;setTimeout(function(){t(e,i)},0)}}(document.getElementById(‘vidible_1’),onPlayerReadyVidible);

Speaking to supporters in central Pennsylvania, Trump repeated a favorite line, saying Clinton’s primary opponent Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) sold out his supporters by endorsing Clinton.

“He made a deal with the devil. She’s the devil,” Trump said. “He made a deal with the devil.”

Trump made the same remark during a local TV interview in Colorado on Friday, saying that Sanders “sold out to the devil.”

At the Republican National Convention last month, retired neurosurgeon and former 2016 GOP presidential hopeful Ben Carson claimed that Clinton has ties to Lucifer.
