Apple’s Suppliers Reportedly Gearing Up For Curved iPhone Displays

iPhone6s-Hand-SafariQuickAction-PR-PRINTOne might argue that some of the ideas that Apple has introduced to its products aren’t exactly original. For example many believe that the newer iterations of iOS have borrowed heavily from Android, or how fingerprint scanners on phones were actually introduced by Motorola many years ago, and so on.

However despite that, Apple has never really come across as a company that reacts to what others are doing, but that could change next year when Apple could be introducing curved displays to its iPhone, a rumor which some of you guys might have heard about recently. In fact according to a recent report from DigiTimes (via Cult of Mac), Apple’s suppliers are already gearing up for production.

The report claims that a company in particular called Mirle Automation has been working on technology that will be able to replicate the curved glass chassis seen on similar devices like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and Note 7. The company has also reportedly received orders from Apple’s manufacturing partners such as Foxconn and Lens for said equipment so that when the time comes, they will be able to create those curved displays for 2017’s iPhone.

Assuming the rumors are true, next year’s iPhone is set to become the biggest change Apple has made to its iPhone lineup in a while. We are talking about OLED screens, curved displays, and even iris scanning technology. Safe to say that you probably should take all of this with huge doses of salt for now, but if you think you can wait one more year, then maybe holding off on this year’s iPhone might not be such a bad idea.

Garmin Virb Ultra 30 Action Cam Comes With Voice Controls

One of the rumored features we have been hearing about for the GoPro HERO5 is voice control, in which users will be able to activate the camera and have it perform certain tasks through the power of your voice. GoPro has yet to make the HERO5 official, but it looks like as far as action cameras are concerned, Garmin has beaten GoPro to the punch.

The company has announced their latest action camera, the Garmin Virb Ultra 30, which as you can see in the image above is small and compact and almost GoPro-ish. It will also come with voice controls so users can tell the camera when to start and stop recording, a useful feature if you have the camera mounted on a harness or on your helmet, or if your hands are full.

Granted Garmin isn’t necessarily a name you might associate with cameras, but on paper the Virb Ultra 30 is no slouch. In fact a lot of its features seem to be features that many would have expected from the HERO5, such as an LCD touchscreen display, 4K video recording at 30fps, 3-axis image stabilization, and also the ability to livestream directly to YouTube.

There is also built-in GPS and sensors that will show the user how far, fast, or high their movements are, great if you’re planning on skydiving or snowboarding or other kinds of sports. Unfortunately it does not come cheap as it is priced at $500 and is available for purchase starting today.

ZED AIR laptop is extremely basic yet functional

zed-airWhile many of us simply cannot live without a notebook these days, as such tools will allow us to be extremely productive even though we are far away from the actual office (coupled with a good portable Internet connection, of course), this does not mean that all notebooks are created equal. For starters, there is this thing known as the Razer Blade laptop that offers plenty of hardware that will cater for your gaming needs, and on the opposite end of the high end spectrum would be the ZED AIR laptop from I-Life Digital Technology — which is a machine that targets first time laptop buyers since it has been specially designed for functionality.

Make no mistake about it, the ZED AIR laptop states its intent right from the get go. This highly portable laptop will come with a beautiful, clean, and fan-less design that is just 17.9mm thin while tipping the scales at a mere 1.55 kg. You will be able to choose from gray, silver and gold shades, while it is accompanied by USB 2.0, HDMI and SD memory card ports. Which is a pity really, since it does not feature USB 3.0 connectivity that should be the norm in this day and age.

Your hands should also feel comfortable to fly all over the place when typing, since it will feature a full-sized keyboard and a large touchpad that provides comfortable typing and navigation experience. The ZED AIR should be able to offer a fair amount of bang for your hard earned buck with its $135 price point.

Other hardware specifications of the ZED AIR laptop include 802.11ac wireless connectivity, 32GB of internal memory, an Intel Atom quad-core processor, Windows 10 as the operating system of choice, 2GB of RAM, a display at 1366 x 768 resolution, and a battery life that should be able to last for up to 10 hours on a full charge.

Cat S60 smartphone sports an integrated thermal camera

cat-s60Thermal imaging — now this is a catchword that will certainly evoke a sense of superiority if a particular device carries such a feature. After all, for the moment, the standard bearer of higher end smartphone models would be a fingerprint scanner for security purposes, while an iris recognition system is also starting to catch on for yet another layer of security. The Cat S60 smartphone comes with a very unique idea — that it will carry an integrated thermal camera, now how about that?

The Cat S60 smartphone is touted to be the first smartphone in the world that will sport an integrated thermal camera, now how about that? Not only that, the Cat S60 also carries the boast of being the world’s most waterproof smartphone, which is something that some of us might be nervous to test out in the first place.

The Cat S60 will feature an embedded thermal camera from FLIR, where Cat S60 owners will then be able to make use of their smartphones in a range of cases, including detecting heat loss around windows and doors, spotting moisture and missing insulation, identifying over-heating electrical appliances and circuitry, finding leaks in underfloor heating and seeing through obscurants like smoke. Makes it sound as though you have gained superpowers around the home or at the office, doesn’t it?

Its integrated thermal camera will visualize heat that is invisible to the naked eye, highlighting temperature contrasts. It is so sensitive, it can pick up heat and measure surface temperatures up to a distance of around 30 meters, not to mention to see through obscurants such as smoke.

As for its waterproof capability, the Cat S60 will be so up to depths of up to 5 meters for one hour, which means it is good to bring with you while you are snorkeling. One thing is for sure though, the Cat S60 is not going to be that cheap, but neither will it be out of reach, since an unlocked device will retail for £529.99 a pop. Other hardware specifications include drop proof ability to 1.8m according to MIL Spec 810G, a 4.7″ HD capacitive multi-touch with auto wet finger & glove support, a 3,800mAh battery, a 13MP camera at the back with a 5MP front-facing camera, 4G LTE support, a Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor, 32GB of internal memory and 3GB of RAM, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow in tow.

Stage Door: A Day By The Sea

<img alt=”2016-09-01-1472689158-9173979-HuffPoDay.jpg” src=”http://images.huffingtonpost.com/2016-09-01-1472689158-9173979-HuffPoDay-thumb.jpg” width=”350″ height=”225″style =”float: left; margin:10px”

Plays about post-war Britain, especially those of N.C. Hunter, often have an elegiac quality. That’s especially true in A Day By The Sea, the Mint Theater’s revival of his 1953 work.

Now off-Broadway at the Beckett Theater, Hunter’s quiet, understated effort echoes Chekhov: familial discord, class issues and cynical idealism.

Here, Julian (Julian Elfer), an overly serious Foreign Office careerist, has reached an impasse. He’s stuck in mid-management, while his personal life is nonexistent. That worries his mother (Jill Tanner), who oversees a household that includes a fragile elderly brother (George Morfogen), tended to by a drunken, but philosophical doctor (Philip Goodwin).

While they lash out at the stupidities of wartime diplomacy, the sun is setting on their once placid existence. There is a subtle shift when Frances (Katie Firth) returns to the manse after a long exile.

A Day By The Sea
records the regrets and angst of middle age. But it also chronicles the passing of an era with a graceful melancholy.

For Britons of a certain class in the post-war years, the play must have hit home. It may seem mannered, as many of that ilk are, but it’s also insightful and sensitively wrought.

Hunter’s gentle prose is sprinkled with wit and ruefulness. At three hours, its pace is gradual, but its points land well. Often staged in the Fifties, the author fell from favor when the angry-young-men plays became all the rage.

But Hunter is worth revisiting, and the cast captures the period with precision. Firth is perfect as a woman who has earned wisdom via hard experience, while Elfer has mastered the vulnerability that often masquerades as pompousness. Both actors hit the mark, as does Tanner’s turn at laser-like honesty.

Admittedly, Austin Pendelton’s direction is staid, but his cast sails through Hunter’s nostalgic musings with ease.

Two-Year-Old Prodigy Finds Viciously Perfect Solution to the Trolley Problem

The trolley problem is a classic thought experiment in ethics, which asks you to imagine a trolley headed toward a track that five people are bound to. If you pull a lever, you can redirect the trolley to another track, where one person is bound. Do you do nothing at all and watch five people die? Or pull the lever, change fate and be personally responsible for the death of one person?
