Daimler Will Launch ‘At Least’ Six Electric Cars

mercedes-star
Tesla has had a relatively open playing field for the past few years as legacy car manufacturers haven’t been rolling out or even hyping up all-electric cars. However, as the company prepares to start producing the Model 3 which is its first mass-market electric car, suddenly the conventional car manufacturers seem very interested in all-electric cars. A new report suggests that Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler is interested in launching “at least” six electric cars.

Reuters reports that Daimler is working on at least six electric cars and it may end up introducing as many as nine. It’s not immediately clear how many of these models will be sedans and crossovers like the Tesla Model X.

If previous reports are believed, at least two sedans and two SUVs will be launched under the Mercedes-Benz brand. Some reports also claim that Daimler is going to focus on all-electric SUVs are crossovers.

The new report also claims that the group is going to launch a plug-in hybrid SUV as well which will run on a hydrogen fuel cell when its 30-mile all-electric range is consumed. On paper, this will give owners the advantage of a car that runs on fuel but without the impact of running a car on gas.

It may take a while for Daimler’s green vehicles to arrive. The report suggests that these models will start arriving between 2018 and 2024. Tesla is expected to start production on the Model 3 next year with some deliveries also scheduled for 2017.

What’s New In iPhone 7? Infamous Analyst Makes Predictions

iPhone-6-review-2
Apple is going to formally launch the iPhone 7 in a few days and it’s quite likely that some of the things we have already heard about this handset will turn out to be true. Infamous Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has sent out a new research report to investors outlining his predictions of what’s new in iPhone 7.

Kuo reiterates in the research report that Apple is going to do away with the 16GB and 64GB storage options for the iPhone. This year the company is expected to offer the new iPhone in 32GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options.

Kuo also predicts that the iPhone 7 camera flash is going to be improved with increased number of LEDs from two to four. Two LEDs are said to be in cool and two in warm colors. The company might add an ambient light sensor to further improve image quality in low-light conditions.

iPhone 7 is also expected to have the same True Tone-branded display that was introduced with the 9.7 inch iPad Pro. Kuo’s note mentions that the iPhone 7 Plus is going to feature a dual-camera setup on the back with two 12 megapixel lenses – one telephoto and the other wide angle.

Additional specs mentioned in the note include the new A10 processor with 3GB RAM, improved 3D touch sensor, Home button with haptic feedback. Kuo does predict that Apple is going to remove the 3.5mm standard headphone jack from the iPhone 7.

Apple’s official announcement of the iPhone 7 has been scheduled for September 7th. It won’t confirm anything about the new iPhone until then.

Chrome For Windows Updated With Material Design And Battery Tweaks

google-chrome
Chrome is often criticised for being a bit too power hungry and while that’s not really an issue on a PC that’s plugged in all the time, it can prove to be troublesome on notebooks and other similar devices. Even Microsoft has taken a swing at Chrome’s battery performance but Google is determined to not take it lying down. The company has pushed out an update for Google Chrome for Windows. The update brings Material Design as well as battery improvements to the most popular web browser out there.

Chrome version 53 for Windows has now been released into the stable channel which means that it’s ready for public consumption. The updated browser brings CPU and GPU power consumption improvements for video playback. It also gets overall performance and power improvements.

Hopefully, the tweaks that Google has made will address some of the concerns about its battery performance, but the results won’t be known for sure until some tests are run on the updated version and compared with the previous one.

Aside from these tweaks, Chrome 53 brings HiDPI improvements and Material Design tweaks to improve the browser’s look and feel. All characteristic Material Design elements are reflected in the flatter navigation, tabs, and overall user interface. Chrome 53 also brings dark mode for incognito mode and color emojis support for users on Windows 10.

Mike Pence Doesn't Really Want To Talk About The Accused Sexual Harassers Working For The Campaign

WASHINGTON ― Indiana Governor and Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence declined to comment on whether it was appropriate for Donald Trump’s campaign to work with several men accused of sexual harassment.

Trump’s newest campaign director, Steve Bannon, was accused of sexual harassment in a 1994 lawsuit and charged with domestic violence in 1996. And former Fox News executive Roger Ailes, who was forced out in July amidst allegations of widespread ongoing sexual harassment, is reportedly advising the campaign.

“Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd asked Pence on Sunday about the “troubling allegations” against Bannon and Ailes, and whether he was “comfortable with their involvement in this campaign.”

“Well, I promise you, the person leading Donald Trump’s campaign is Donald Trump,” said Pence. “You know, he and I talk every day, sometimes several times a day. He is a hands-on leader and a hands-on CEO.”

Todd pressed him again, and Pence skirted the question.

“I trust Donald Trump’s judgment to assemble around this team a group that’s going to help us move forward and be successful and win,” he said. “And come on, I mean ― Steve Bannon has denied all of those allegations.”

Todd tried a third time, and got a similar response: “To be honest with you, Chuck, I know these issues, staff issues and internal issues are of great interest in your world. When I’m out campaigning, it’s just not where the American people are focused.”

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.

Turkish-Backed Rebels Clear ISIS From Border, State Media Claims

ISTANBUL, Sept 4 (Reuters) – Turkish-backed rebels on Sunday cleared Islamic State fighters from Turkey’s Syrian border, securing an area in northern Syria and making a substantial advance in an incursion by Turkish forces, state media reported.

The rebels, mainly Syrian Arabs and Turkmen fighting under the loose banner of the Free Syrian Army, took charge of the frontier after clearing out the Sunni hardline group, state-run Anadolu Agency said.

The advance took place little more than a week after Turkey launched the Syrian incursion, called Euphrates Shield, deploying tanks and air power to support the rebels, who swept into the border town of Jarablus.

On Saturday, Turkey and its rebel allies opened a new line of attack in northern Syria, rolling across the border some 55 km (34 miles) west of Jarablus.

The rebels now appear to have secured a roughly 90 km stretch of land that Turkey has long wanted to control, to keep out jihadists and to stop the advance of U.S.-backed Syrian Kurdish fighters.

Turkey is fighting a three-decade-old Kurdish insurgency in the southeast and fears that gains by the Syrian Kurdish YPG will embolden militants at home. Turkey considers the YPG a terrorist organization and an extension of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

While the United States and Europe also regard the PKK as a terrorist group, Washington sees the YPG as a separate entity and as its most effective partner in the fight against Islamic State in Syria. That position has caused friction with Turkey, a NATO member and a partner in the fight against Islamic State
