When I first saw Audeze’s new planar magnetic in-ear headphones my eye was drawn to the slightly goofy design. But, any self respecting audio lover will probably overlook that if the sound is right. And, on first listen, it looks promising. Audeze ha…

Simple Ways to Get Energized to Have a Successful Work Day

The secret to having an energized and successful work day really comes down to being prepared the day before. It’s hard to have a great work day if you wake up frazzled and not put together. That’s why it’s so important to follow the simple steps below every day to guarantee success the following day.

Get a Great Night’s Sleep

It seems so simple, but it’s true. More and more entrepreneurs are putting a greater emphasis on getting quality sleep. Lack of sleep used to be something people bragged about, but now sleep is considered integral to being your best self during your work day.

In order to get the best night’s sleep, be sure to go to bed at a decent hour. Turn off all screens at least an hour before you go to bed and keep repeating the same routine each night. You’d be surprised at how much a successful night of sleep can help you to feel energized the next day.

Plan Your Day

If you know exactly what you need to do each day, you’re guaranteed to be far more successful than a day where you just wing it. Whether you run your business out of an office building or your basement, have a set number of tasks that you absolutely have to get accomplished. Then, have a list of tasks you can tackle once you’re finished with the most important ones.

Prioritizing tasks is so important as is knowing how much you can actually get accomplished during the day. You don’t want to have a to do list with 15 tasks on it and then beat yourself up when you don’t finish them all. Part of having a successful work day is knowing your limits and only taking on what you can handle.

Break When You Need To

Sometimes, we just work better after we’ve had a nice break. You can’t work all day every day. Sometimes you’re going to have to stop what you’re doing for work and go on a walk to clear your mind. You can also take the time to call family, friends, or colleagues to take your mind off of your business. You’ll probably notice that some of your best ideas come when you’ve made a conscious decision to clear your mind. Don’t push through if you’re in a rut; take a small break to clear your mind before trying again.

Ultimately, you can have a successful work day every day, but it’s going to take some preparation. All of that preparation should come the day before or the night before. Setting out your food, clothes, and more can help you to be ready to conquer your work day. It might not be easy but it’s definitely possible. Plus, once you get into the habit of being prepared, you’ll be well on your way o having a successful work day every day.

We Should All Listen To 4 Sexual Assault Survivors’ Words About Brock Turner

Since June, the public has been rightfully outraged over former Stanford University student Brock Turner’s lenient six-month sentence for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman. We’ve heard from reporters, politicians and celebrities.

But what about survivors of sexual assault and rape?

A new video from Bustle aims to elevate those voices by featuring four women who have been sexually assaulted. The powerful video was published only a few days before Turner was released from jail Friday morning after serving only three months in protective custody.

The four women describe their assaults and the gut-wrenching scars they have to live with every single day as survivors. One woman was raped by her best friend in college. Another was raped by her boyfriend. All four women describe the devastating experiences that followed their assaults, such as being victim-blamed by the cops, suffering from debilitating PTSD and developing substance abuse issues.

The judge who presided over Turner’s trial, an who has since stepped down from criminal court under intense scrutiny, justified his lenient punishment by saying that prison would have a “severe impact” on the former college student.

In the video, Bustle asked the women to discuss the severe impact their assault had on them. These are just a few of their answers:

“The severe impact that my assault had on me is still ongoing years later.”

“I struggle with depression.”

“I don’t trust anyone.”

“I started self-harming.”

“I didn’t want to be touched.”

“Generally I just wanted to die, pretty much every single day.”

Brock Turner’s victim was brutally assaulted, bravely came forward and then endured an agonizing character assassination throughout the trial that ― along with the trauma of her assault ― will likely stay with her the rest of her life. But prison would have more of a “severe impact” on perpetrators like Turner than their assault did on the actual victims?

Sure.

Now Donald Trump Is Pitting LGBT People Against All Immigrants

Donald Trump’s bloodcurdling speech in Phoenix on immigration two nights ago is being compared to his speech a year ago, in the same place, on the same topic. But in many ways it also mirrors his address at the Republican National Convention in July, focused on “law and order,” pitting groups against one another, and in the process demonizing all people of color.

At that time he attempted to pit “LGBTQ citizens” against Muslims, reiterating that he will protect gays from a “hateful foreign ideology.” For weeks he’d been horribly exploiting the Orlando massacre, which was carried out by an American citizen filled with a hatred of gays who grew up in a country in which hate groups, like the Family Research Council, inspire animus and discrimination.

Because the killer was a Muslim, however, and referenced ISIS, which he seemed to have confused with Al Qaeda and other groups — though he had no ties, or even known sympathy to ISIS before — Trump spun the massacre as one directed by “radical Islam” and decided this was how he would feign support for LGBT people. As I’ve pointed out many times, the media ate it up as, often describing Trump as “embracing” LGBT “rights” when he is us opposed to any actual “rights” – including marriage equality — as any other GOP presidential candidate has been.

On Wednesday Trump appeared to expand on his attempt to pit LGBT people against Muslims to include all immigrants as potential enemies. This is of course monumentally ignorant in many ways, including because of the fact that many immigrants, whether Muslim, Mexican or any other group, are LGBT themselves. Many LGBT immigrants are in fact fleeing their countries because of horrific anti-LGBT oppression, such as the case with LGBT Syian refugees (while Trump rails against Hillary Clinton for calling for accepting more Syrian refugees). And many Central and South American LGBT immigrants are facing terrible homophobic and transphobic abuse in detention centers in the U.S., after fleeing homophobia in their home countries.

That pertinent fact notwithstanding, Trump promised in his speech on Wednesday to enforce an “ideological certification” test for immigrants that is as hypocritical as it is unconstitutional:

Another reform involves new screening tests for all applicants that include an ideological certification to make sure that those we are admitting to our country share our values and love our people….Applicants will be asked for their views about honor killings, about respect for women and gays and minorities, attitudes on Radical Islam, and many other topics as part of the vetting procedure.”

This is outrageous because it is evangelical Christian extremists leaders in the United States — U.S. citizens — who are right now the major danger to the safety and well-being of LGBT people, taking away our rights and inspiring violence on the streets. When Trump says that the ideological certification will make sure immigrants accept our “values,” what “values” is he talking about? Right now the values he embraces regarding LGBT people are those of the Family Research Council, which endorsed him.

He’s promised them and other anti-LGBT groups, via the Christian Broadcasting Network, to appoint judges who would overturn marriage equality and supports the First Amendment Defense Act, which would allow for discrimination against LGBT people by government entities and businesses. And he certainly doesn’t support the Equality Act, which would add LGBT to the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which Hillary Clinton pledged to support after it was introduced in Congress. He in fact believes such issues should be left to the states, as he said regarding North Carolina’s anti-LGBT people which regulates where transgender people go to the bathroom.

So when Trump says immigrants must share our values for “respect of women and gays” he’s trying to dupe both GOP moderates and the media into the belief that he actually supports LGBT rights when he doesn’t. At the same time, anti-LGBT groups don’t mind the mention because they know it’s in the service of bashing Muslims – and Tony Perkins of FRC admitted as much, even using the term LGBT himself — and that he’s, on paper, on board with their domestic anti-LGBT agenda; he’ll in fact be speaking to them as the star speaker of FRC’s Values Voter Summit next week.

The rhetoric certainly doesn’t play to LGBT voters — even as Trump is now hawking “LGBTQ for Trump” t-shirts — who know that the threat to their rights and their lives is from domestic gay-bashers who run the evangelical groups Donald Trump has accepted support from. But Trump’s goal, as with his outreach to African-Americans, is instead to reach those white straight suburban GOP voters. And, unless the media doesn’t continue to be duped, he may succeed.

Stop Complaining About the New iPhone 7

2016-09-01-1472763627-3516701-heropict.jpg

For the past several months, everybody has been complaining about the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Okay, so they won’t have headphone jacks. If you have used some of the top Bluetooth headphones by Bose or Sennheiser, you would see how wireless sound can come very close to matching the sound on wired headphones. Besides, do you really like wires dangling when you are working out?

Another complaint has been that the design of the new iPhones is very similar to last year’s design. Why change something that works? Both the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus feel very sturdy, and the only problem is that there is too much space above and underneath the screen. It would be great to have a bezel-less iPhone, but it’s not absolutely necessary.

There are many reasons to look forward to the upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Here are some of them:

Stereo Speakers

Okay, so the iPhone 7 series is getting rid of the headphone jack, but a second speaker will be put in its place. People have been asking for an iPhone with stereo speakers for years, and it looks like they’ll finally get their wish. If the speakers sound anything like they do on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, the new iPhones will provide the ultimate multimedia experience. True, you can just listen to your videos and music with headphones, but there’s something special about watching and listening to a film such as Jurassic World without needing any accessories.

Improved Screen Resolution

The 1080p screen resolution on the iPhone 6s Plus is still low compared to competing smartphones. [Photo by Daryl Deino]

The 1334 x 750 (326 ppi) screen resolution on the iPhone 6s and the 1920 x 1080 (401 ppi) resolution on the iPhone 6s Plus are so three-years ago, but that could be changing. According to many sources, it looks like the iPhone 7 screen will get a 1080p upgrade and the iPhone 7 Plus will have a 2K screen. This will make pictures, text, and videos sharper. The iPhone 7 series won’t have an OLED screen like Samsung’s smartphones, but Apple’s LCD screens are still fantastic.

Improved Cameras

It’s difficult to complain about the cameras on the current iPhone 6s and, especially, the iPhone 6s Plus. They take mostly perfect pictures and great 4K videos. But Apple is allegedly making the cameras even better on the next generation iPhones.

Even though the iPhone 7 camera is said to have a minor camera improvement, it’s the iPhone 7 Plus camera that will really shine. According to BGR, the 7 Plus will have a 12MP dual-cam that features a driver chipset from Analog Devices and LinX technology. It will be able to take DSLR-quality pictures. The only thing missing will be a zoom lens.

It would be great if the iPhone finally offered stereo microphones to take 4K videos in stereo sound. Given that the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will add stereo speakers, it’s quite possible they will finally add stereo microphones as well.

Full Waterproof

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are already water-resistant, but many sources say that both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be fully waterproof. This means that if you wish, you could take your phone with you in the shower or the swimming pool and not have to worry about a single thing. This could be great for taking underwater photos.

It’s fine to complain, but why complain about the new iPhone 7 series before it is even announced. Why base your opinion on hype? If you don’t like the new iPhones after Wednesday’s Apple event, fine. But for now, please find something legit to complain about.

Every Vote For Dilma Rousseff's Impeachment Was A Vote For Corruption

On August 31, a rainy afternoon in São Paulo, I watched the 2016 coup play out on the Senate TV channel. They referred to the process as a legal impeachment. They claimed that Brazil’s president, Dilma Rousseff, had committed a macroeconomic crime.

My dear reader, stop pretending to be impartial. Stop trying to convince yourself that this decision will overthrow the Workers’ Party (PT). It’s will not.

Those who stood behind this coup have, by default, supported Michel Temer, Eduardo Cunha, Aécio Neves and their followers.

Those who were in favor of this coup have endorsed corruption.

I am not a member of the PT. I will never become a member of any party, due to my work as a journalist, as well as for personal reasons.

But I am not afraid of taking a stand: I think it’s important to say that this impeachment was actually a coup. I believe it was a parliamentary coup brought about by corrupt politicians.

I watched Dilma Rousseff’s trial since it started on Thursday, August 25, paying attention to the arguments of the prosecution and the defense. There was no consensus over the fiscal maneuvers, which are central to the impeachment claim.

The Senate voted favorably for her impeachment, with a score of 61 to 20. Senator Randolfe Rodrigues was responsible for proposing a separate motion concerning Dilma’s political rights. However, the 43 votes in favor of barring her from holding any public office for the next eight years were insufficient.

In a nutshell: The coup removed her from office, but some senators, mainly from PMDB (the current president’s party), realized that an open war against the PT was not a smart idea. They decided that they didn’t want to bar Rousseff from public office for eight years, unlike what happened during the legitimate impeachment process against Fernando Collor de Mello.

Here are the facts about the politicians that voted in this process.

Renan Calheiros is a defendant in at least 11 investigations into corruption crimes.

Another member of his party, Romero Jucá, was involved in plotting to stop investigations into the Car Wash Operation.

I think it’s important to say that this impeachment was actually a coup.

Antonio Anastasia, who was responsible for preparing the impeachment report, has been accused of receiving R$ 2 million from the Andrade Gutierrez, UTC, OAS, Odebrecht and Queiroz Galvão contractors as well as from the BTG Pactual Bank, which were all mentioned in the Car Wash Operation.

Aécio Neves was mentioned at least five times in the plea bargain process of the Petrobras corruption scheme.

Michel Temer, the new president of Brazil, has been accused by the Car Wash Operation investigators of receiving R$ 5 million from congressman Eduardo Cunha since 2015. The former speaker of the lower house of Congress, whose political rights have not been suspended, has allegedly received R$ 52 million in 36 installments, according to an accusation in one of the numerous plea bargain statements.

It may sound repetitive, but one thing is clear: All these crimes are more relevant than the fiscal maneuvers carried out by Dilma Rousseff during the Harvest Plan.

All these investigations involve money stolen from the Brazilian people, and not financial operations devised to obtain financial resources for the “Bolsa Família” and other social programs.

All the facts of this coup must be reiterated, no matter how repetitive they may sound.

Senators from PSDB (and their political allies) consider the fact that Dilma has kept her political rights as a “coup” against the impeachment process.

The hard and cruel truth is that the Workers’ Party corrupt congressional base disrespected the constitution and double-crossed a president elected by 54 million votes.

And they did it in order to keep stealing from all of us.
