Galaxy S8 Exynos Processor Officially Announced

Samsung today announced its next-generation Exynos 9 series processor which is most likely going to debut with the Galaxy S8 this year. The Exynos 9 Series 8895 is the first Samsung processor to take advantage of the company’s 10nm FinFET processor which allows for up to 27 percent higher performance while consuming 40 percent less power. It’s the same process that Samsung is building Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 on, and that chip is also going to debut with the Galaxy S8.

Like we’ve seen it do in the past, some variants of the Galaxy S8 will be powered by Samsung’s processor while others will have the Qualcomm chip. The Exynos 9 Series 8895 is also the first processor of its kind to come with an embedded gigabit LTE modem with support for five carrier aggregation.

“In addition to being built on the most advanced 10nm FinFET process technology, the new Exynos 9 Series 8895 incorporates Samsung’s cutting-edge technologies including a 2nd generation custom CPU, gigabit LTE modem, and more” said Ben Hur, Vice President of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics.

This octacore processor is made up of four of Samsung’s 2nd generation custom designed CPU cores in addition to four Cortex-A53 cores. ARM’s latest Mali-G71 graphics processor provides superior graphics performance such as the ability to record and playback video in 4K UHD at 120 frames per second and the ability to support VR video at 4K resolution.

Samsung has confirmed today that the Exynos 9 Series 8895 processor is currently in mass production. Even though it hasn’t said it outright, the first device to be powered by this processor will most likely be the Galaxy S8.

Tesla Superchargers In North America Will Be Doubled This Year

Tesla’s Supercharger network is integral to the experience of owning an all-electric car but without having to make a trade-off when it comes to range, particularly when driving long distances. Its Supercharger network is what enables owners to make coast-to-coast trips without having to spend too much time charging up the car in between. The company has a respectable number of these stations live already in North America and Tesla has now confirmed that it’s going to double the number of Supercharger stations in North America this year.

Tesla has 2,636 Supercharger stations at 373 locations across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The company revealed in its quarterly letter to shareholders that it’s going to double this number to twice as many locations across North America by the end of this year.

Any and all Model X and Model S owners can quickly charge up their cars at a Supercharger station. Tesla says that just 30 minutes of charging can provide users with as much as 170 miles of change.

While 2,636 stations might seem much, as more Teslas take to the streets and the Model 3 just around the corner, it goes without saying that Tesla is going to need a lot more of these to ensure that drivers find an available spot at Supercharger stations in a reasonable amount of time.
