Leaked Galaxy S8 Photo Shows Navigation Buttons

All of the rumors and reports about the Galaxy S8 so far suggest that the handset is not going to have a home button. This also means that it will not have the two navigation buttons that you normally find on either side of the home button. It appears that the Galaxy S8 will stick with software-based navigation buttons and today a purported picture of the Galaxy S8 has leaked online, possibly showing us the navigation buttons.

This is actually the first time that a leaked photo of the Galaxy S8 is drawing our attention not towards the design but towards something else entirely. The Galaxy S8’s design has been leaked time and again in renders so there’s really no need to see any more of them.

We can see a bottom bar in this image that features a back button on the right corner. One can expect to see other relevant buttons pop up in this bar as and when required. The good thing about software-based buttons is that they can be tweaked to suit each particular app or service, at least as far as native apps and services are concerned.

Samsung is due to reveal later this month when it’s going to launch the Galaxy S8. The company is going to launch two variants of this flagship, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, at an event next month.

Refurbished Galaxy Note 7 Might Be Sold In Select Markets This Year

The Galaxy Note 7 caused a lot of headaches over at Samsung because the phone started catching fire soon after it was released. After a lengthy investigation, Samsung concluded that battery defects were to blame. The handset cost Samsung billions of dollars in lost sales aside from the costs associated with the recall. The company might be trying to make some money out of the entire ordeal by releasing refurbished Galaxy Note 7s in select markets this year.

As per a new report out of South Korea, Samsung has now recovered most of the 3 million-plus Galaxy Note 7 units it sold across the globe last year. The entire exercise has obviously cost the company a lot of money.

It’s claimed that Samsung is thinking about recouping some losses by releasing refurbished units of the Galaxy Note 7 in India and Vietnam. Since it has recovered close to 3 million units and used 200,000 to conduct tests, the company has more than 2.5 million unsold Galaxy Note 7 units lying in warehouses. So it would make sense to refurbish them and sell them again to make some money out of this ordeal.

The report mentions that the refurbished Galaxy Note 7s will have a battery in the range of 3,000mAh to 3,200mAh instead of the 3,500mAh that this handset originally came with. It’s unclear which company will be supplying the battery of the refurbished units. Samsung is reportedly going to finish refurbishing the devices by May and will begin selling it in the aforementioned markets by June.

Bear in mind that Samsung has not officially confirmed any of this so until it says something about refurbished Galaxy Note 7 units, take this news with a grain of salt.

Samsung Smartphones Will Soon Be Able To Unlock Windows 10 PCs

Do you have a habit of locking your PC whenever you leave your desk? Do you find it a pain to punch in your passcode every time you come back? If you’d like a simpler way of unlocking your Windows 10 PC then make sure you have a compatible Galaxy smartphone. According to a new report, Samsung will soon enable users of compatible Galaxy smartphones to unlock any Windows 10 PC.

This will reportedly be made possible by Samsung Flow. It’s a Windows 10 app which lets Galaxy TabPro S owners unlock their tablet using a compatible smartphone’s fingerprint reader. The app only works with the Galaxy TabPro S right now but given that it makes life very easy, PC users are calling on Samsung to support all Windows 10 PCs with it.

Samsung has confirmed that it’s going to release the app for non-Samsung Windows 10 PCs in the coming months. This was confirmed by Samsung support in response to a customer question about the availability of Samsung Flow for non-Samsung Windows 10 PCs. The support representative confirmed that Samsung Flow would be released for all PCs after the next major Windows 10 update – the Creators Update – is released by Microsoft in April this year.

The app will enable any and all Windows 10 users to unlock their computers using a compatible Galaxy smartphone’s fingerprint sensor. The app also lets users check smartphone notifications, transfer content, reply to notifications, and share app activity from the paired smartphone.

iPhone 8 Rumored To Feature Revolutionary Camera Technology

Another day, another rumor about the iPhone 8. According to a new research note by the infamous KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is working on “revolutionary” camera technology for the iPhone 8 which will power facial or iris recognition, 3D selfies, and augmented reality experiences on Apple’s next flagship device.

This camera technology is not something you see often on smartphones and what Kuo has described in his research note is quite similar to what Microsoft shipped with the Kinect for Xbox. Even the implemented of this technology is said to be similar to the Kinect.

Kuo predicts that Apple is going to build this technology into the front of the iPhone 8. The conventional camera sensor will be supported by an infrared projector and receiver. This will enable the front camera to capture depth information instead of just capturing a normal flat image.

The ability to do this will come in handy if Apple wants to enable users to rely on facial recognition to unlock their iPhones. The technology could also be used for powering games as well. Users may also be able to take 3D selfies which would certainly be a cut above the rest.

Kuo also predicts that Apple will eventually add depth-sensing functionality to the iPhone’s rear cameras as well but doesn’t hint that this is going to happen later this year with the iPhone 8.

Apple is due to unveil the new iPhones later this year in the fall so we can be sure to hear a lot of reports, some absurd and some not, in the months leading up to the official announcement.

Sonos PlayBase Soundbar Leaked

It appears that Sonos has been working on a new product that it’s going to release next month. A leaked listing has been spotted on B&H for a product called “Sonos PlayBase.” It’s unlike any existing Sonos product so it appears to be a new creation. While the listing doesn’t really reveal what this device is going to do, from the looks of it, this is a soundbar for TVs. The design suggests that a TV will be placed directly on top of this plate-shaped soundbar for an enhanced audio experience.

Since this is a Sonos product, after all, the functionality might not be limited to just enhancing the TV’s audio, it may also offer all of the connected music streaming options that you get on other Sonos products.

The leaked images of the Sonos PlayBase don’t reveal much about the device itself. They do show that it includes an Ethernet port, an optical port, a speaker grille at the front and just one button on the side. It doesn’t appear to have an HDMI port.

The PlayBase just might have touch controls and an integrated mic quite like the Play:5 speakers that Sonos released recently. The B&H listing for Sonos PlayBase has now been taken offline but it did mention that this product will be out at some point in March. Sonos is yet to officially confirm the existence of the PlayBase.
