Chrome Extension Will Prevent Facebook Videos From Autoplaying

As you might have heard, Facebook recently announced their plans to make changes to how videos are played on its platform. The company has decided that by default, videos will soon start to play automatically with the sound on. Apparently this has been well-received as Facebook claims to have gotten “positive feedback” from it.

However if you’re in the camp that thinks that this is a silly and annoying feature, you’ll be pleased to learn that there is now a Google Chrome extension that will prevent Facebook videos from autoplaying. This extension called “Disable HTML5 Autoplay” will be available for both Chrome and Opera, with plans to eventually make it available for Firefox as well.

This extension will not block the videos but rather stops them from playing automatically, so if you wanted you could still play them by clicking on them. Do note that Facebook will give users the option of disabling the feature if they choose to, but this extension will work with not just Facebook videos, but all HTML5 videos in general so if you do visit websites that love to autoplay videos upon loading, then this feature could come in handy.

The extension is also customizable where you whitelist and blacklist sites that you want videos to autoplay or to not autoplay. You’ll be able to get your hands on the extension via the Chrome Web Store or the Opera Add-Ons page.

New Alleged Moto G5 Hands-On Photos Leaked

The other day thanks to a retailer listing the Moto G5 and G5 Plus, we managed to get a glimpse at the specs and images of the upcoming handset. In case that wasn’t enough, new alleged hands-on photos have made their way online thanks to Brazilian website Dudu Rocha Tec (via PhoneArena).

The leaked photos don’t really tell us anything we didn’t already know based on previous leaks, but we guess it more or less confirms what it will look like in real-life and we have to say it looks pretty good! The leaked photos also confirms that the Moto G5 will feature a fingerprint sensor at the bottom of the phone, which could also double up as a home button which will be something new for the company.

As for specs, just in case you missed the previous leaks, the Moto G5 and G5 Plus will differ mostly in its screen size and chipset. The former will feature a 5-inch display, while the latter will be slightly larger at 5.2-inches, but both are expected to have Full HD displays. Under the hood the Moto G5 will be powered by a Snapdragon 430 while the G5 Plus will pack a Snapdragon 625.

Motorola is expected to officially announce the Moto G5 at MWC 2017, or at least that’s what we’re assuming based on a countdown timer that was recently launched on their website, but do check back with us next week if you’d like the official details.

Android SVP Teases ‘Oreo’ For Next Android Name

At the moment the current Android name is “Nougat” as Google makes their way through the alphabet, and so far Google has been going with different names of desserts. That being said in 2017 we can expect the next major build of Android, which we can only assume will be called Android “O”.

So the question is, what will the next build of Android be known as? In a recent tweet by Android SVP Hiroshi Lockheimer, it seems that Lockheimer is teasing that it could be called “Oreo” which we guess does make sense. However it should be noted that since Oreo isn’t a generic dessert name, we have to wonder if Google might have another partnership in place like they did with Android 4.4 KitKat.

It is also entirely possible that Lockheimer is trolling us with Oreo since it is a pretty obvious name, but we can’t really think of any other dessert that starts with O that is short and sweet, unless Google plans on going back to their “Ice Cream Sandwich” naming days. In any case it might be a while before we find out the details.

Google will be hosting Google I/O 2017 later this year from the 17-19th of May where they’ll presumably show off/tease the next Android build, but as to whether or not the name will be revealed remains to be seen.

Someone Just Bought Hitler's Personal Phone For $243,000

A battered red phone once belonging to Adolf Hitler, possibly used to send untold numbers of people to their deaths during World War II, has been sold at auction for $243,000.

The personal traveling phone, which features an engraved swastika and the Nazi leader’s name on the back, was sold to an unidentified buyer by telephone on Sunday, according to CNN.

The seller, Alexander Historical Auctions in Chesapeake City, Maryland, described the phone as “Hitler’s mobile device of destruction.”

Both the phone and a porcelain dog were recovered from the mass murderer’s bunker by British officer Ralph Rayner soon after the war ended, according to the auction house. Ranulf Rayner said the items were presented to his father as gifts by the Russian forces then in control of the city.

Speaking in a video on the auction house’s Facebook page, Ranulf Rayner says that Hitler’s personal telephonist had confirmed that the phone belonged to the dictator during his last two years of life.

The device was used for traveling. In the video, Rayner shows how the handset has to be twisted at an angle to be lifted, which prevented it from coming loose during transportation.

“It was then used, no doubt, as a cell phone and went wherever Hitler was traveling,” Rayner says in the video.

The auction house highlighted that point in its catalog.

“This was not a staid office telephone used to solicit contributions to the party, or to answer polite calls at the Berghof,” the catalog states, referring to Hitler’s home in the Bavarian Alps. “This was Hitler’s mobile device of destruction, used in vehicles, trains, his field headquarters, at the Wolf’s Lair … and in the last desperate days deep beneath Berlin.”

Perhaps just as sinister as the phone is the porcelain Alsatian, which The Associated Press reported was sold to a different buyer for $24,300. It was allegedly made by slave labor at the Dachau concentration camp and likely presented to Hitler by SS leader Heinrich Himmler, according to the auction house.

Although the phone and the figurine may be one-of-a-kind historical objects, many auction houses refuse to sell Nazi-related items. Sotheby’s and Christie’s do not trade in Third Reich memorabilia. Such items are outlawed for sale in France, Germany, Austria and Hungary, the Independent reported.

Ranulf Raynor expressed the hope to CNN that the phone would be purchased by a museum where it could help “remind the world of the horrors of war.”

“I certainly won’t miss it,” he said. “It’s a fairly sinister bit of kit and I’ve always lived in fear of someone trying to steal it. I’ve also been told it’ll bring me bad luck.”

These 'La La Land' Engagement Pics Capture That Old Hollywood Romance

Let’s give this couple an Oscar nod for their dreamy “La La Land”-themed engagement photos.

Ellen Wleklinski and Corey Collins teamed up with photographer Marlies Hartmann of M. Hart Photography for the Los Angeles shoot, inspired by the Academy Award-nominated film that follows aspiring actress Mia (Emma Stone) and struggling jazz musician Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) as they fall in love and pursue their dreams.

Some of the engagement pics were taken on Jan. 29 at and around the Griffith Observatory, where parts of the movie were shot. The starry nighttime photos were taken two weeks later at the Hollywood Bowl Overlook.

“Ellen and Corey’s relationship encapsulates the same romance, passion, playfulness and chemistry that was felt between Mia and Sebastian throughout the film,” the photographer told The Huffington Post. “Not only did they resemble the characters physically, but their relationship embodies all the best elements of Gosling and Stone seen in the movie.”

The bride-to-be had suggested Griffith Observatory to Marlies as a possible location for the shoot since she often runs in the park nearby. At the time, Marlies had just seen “La La Land” and thought it would be a perfect theme to capture the couple’s own classic love story.

“I was initially hesitant to suggest it to them since I wasn’t sure if they had seen or even liked the movie, but I threw out the idea and they loved it!” she told HuffPost. “They were both huge fans of the film, and Ellen always felt that Corey looked like her own personal Ryan Gosling!”

The couple plans to tie the knot in September at the Redondo Beach Historic Library. Below, more photos from the utterly romantic shoot:

Vandals Cause Extensive Damage At Jewish Cemetery In St. Louis

Vandals in the St. Louis area have caused extensive damage to a Jewish cemetery in University City.

Numerous headstones at the Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery were toppled this weekend, among other damage, police said. Cemetery employees discovered the damage Monday morning.

Fox2 St. Louis reporter Andy Banker said he counted at least 100 toppled headstones when he walked through the cemetery, which was established by a group of Jewish immigrants from Russia in 1893.

”Numerous plots were damaged and [headstones were] pushed over,” Lt. Fredrick Lemons of the University City Police Department told The Huffington Post.

Lemons declined to comment on the possibility of the vandalism being classified as a hate crime. “Right now, everything is under investigation,” Lemons said. “We’re looking into all possible leads.”

Police say they’re reviewing security camera footage from the cemetery and surrounding businesses.

The damage is the latest in a string of anti-Semitic incidents that have occurred nationally since Donald Trump began his campaign. On Monday alone, 11 Jewish community centers across the country received threatening phone calls and bomb threats, forcing closures and evacuations. Since the beginning of the year, there have been such 67 incidents in 27 states and one Canadian province, according to Marla Cohen, communications manager for the Jewish Community Center Association.

As HuffPost’s Matt Ferner reported Monday

The far-right has become emboldened under Trump, and while the number of Americans who directly support hardened hate groups remains far lower than in earlier decades, the number of hate groups in America is rising, according to a recent report from the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks hate and extremism around the nation.

Heidi Beirich, director of the Intelligence Project at SPLC, said that this series of bomb threats since the new year is “unprecedented.”

“I’ve been working at SPLC since 1999. I’ve never seen a string of attacks like this that are targeting the same kind of institution in the same kind of way. This is new,” Beirich said.

Trump has mostly shrugged off questions about anti-Semitism. He ignored a question about it last week during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, discussing his margin of victory in the election instead, and cut off a Jewish journalist in a press conference the next day before he could ask a question about the issue.

In a statement to NBC’s Peter Alexander on Monday, the White House press secretary said the threats made against Jewish community centers were “unacceptable,” but made no reference to anti-Semitism.
