T-Mobile’s Latest Promo Offers One Free Line Of Service

T-Mobile’s latest promotion kicks off on Wednesday which marks the start of the new month. Starting March 1st, the carrier’s new promotion will go live, it’s going to give existing subscribers with at least two lines of voice service another line of service for free after bill credits. This can be an extra voice line or subscribers can add a tablet, smartwatch, or SyncUp Drive if they feel like it.

T-Mobile has kept this promotion open to all of its subscribers on the T-Mobile One, Simple Choice, and Simple Choice No Credit plans aside from small businesses with up to 11 lines. Those who take advantage of this promotion will be able to keep their free line as long as they’re on that plan and in good standing with the carrier.

The free line of service is going to match the subscriber’s current paid voice line and if they have multiple lines on the account with different amounts of data, it’s going to match the one with the least amount of data.

This promotion can be stacked with T-Mobile’s existing offering of two T-Mobile One lines for $100 per month. Customers who canceled a line after January 1st, 2017 are not eligible to take advantage of this promotion.

Comcast X1 YouTube App Arrives Later This Year

Comcast has signed a deal with Google which is going to bring an official YouTube app to the former’s X1 set-top box. This deal is going to provide Comcast users with full access to the world’s largest online video service. Content from YouTube will be integrated alongside other on-demand content on the Comcast X1 set-top box for an improved user experience. That’s not all, the app is going to have a couple of other features which will make it very easily to use it on the set-top box.

For example, voice commands will work for the Comcast X1 YouTube app. This will enable users to launch the app without having to fumble with the remote. Voice commands will also let them search for artists, shows, and more. This isn’t the first online video streaming app that Comcast has integrated into its X1 set-top box. Netflix is available on it already.

It goes without saying that YouTube isn’t the final app of its kind to arrive on the X1 set-top box. It’s going to be one of many that eventually make their way to Comcast’s box as it continues to bring more great third-party apps to the platform.

A release date has not yet been confirmed but Comcast does say that the X1 YouTube app is going to be released at some point later this year.

OnePlus 5 Specs Rumored

A new report from Korea claims that the next OnePlus smartphone is going to be called the OnePlus 5 and it brings us some purported specs of this handset. You might be wondering what happened to the OnePlus 4, it’s possible that the handset might never come out, given that OnePlus decided to launch a slightly updated version of the OnePlus 3 last year and call it the OnePlus 3T. However, there might be another reason for that.

The number “4” is often associated with bad luck in China which is probably another reason why the company might decide to leap directly to the OnePlus 5 moniker.

According to the report, the OnePlus 5 is going to look similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge and that it’s going to have a ceramic body much like that of the Xiaomi Mi Mix. It may be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

It’s also rumored to feature a 23 megapixel rear and a 16 megapixel front camera, a 4,000mAh battery, and a USB Type-C port. The device will most certainly be powered by a tweaked version of Android 7.0 Nougat since it’s not expected to come out until the third quarter of this year.

None of this has been officially confirmed by OnePlus so take it all with a grain of salt until there’s more information about its next flagship smartphone.

Walmart Didn't Feature Any Women Filmmakers For Oscars Short Films

Walmart is facing criticism for not featuring any female directors for an ad campaign that aired during Sunday’s Academy Awards.

The world’s largest retailer is a sponsor of the Oscars and commissioned several short films directed by prominent filmmakers. Marc Forster, Antoine Fuqua, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were tasked to create a short film based on items from a Walmart receipt.

When the store’s ads aired Sunday night, viewers noticed that none of them were directed by women — including Washington Post film critic Ann Hornaday, who tweeted that she was “disappointed” that female filmmakers were left out. Women have long been underrepresented in the film industry, particularly as directors, producers, writers, editors, cinematographers and other roles behind the camera.

Walmart told Hornaday that the company did ask female directors to participate in the series, but none did, “mainly due to scheduling.”

Walmart did not return a request for comment.

Just like the lack of racial diversity, there is an alarming and disappointing lack of gender parity in Hollywood. Year after year, studies have shown that women are woefully underrepresented in the film industry, especially in behind-the-camera roles and leadership positions.

In 2016, only 7 percent of the 250 top-grossing films were directed by women, according to researchers at the Center for the Study of Women in Television & Film at San Diego State University. Women made up only 24 percent of producers, 17 percent of editors, 13 percent of writers and 5 percent of cinematographers who worked on those films. The rates were slightly higher for smaller, independent movies.

But even more alarming is the relative lack of change. The same study found that the overall percentage of women working behind the scenes was the same as it was in 1998.

The problem was even the subject of a federal investigation in 2015. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission reportedly forced major studios to settle allegations that they have “systematically discriminated against female directors.”

Only one woman has ever won the Oscar for Best Director: Kathryn Bigelow, for her 2009 film “The Hurt Locker.”

WHO Says New Drugs Urgently Needed To Fight 12 'Priority Pathogens'

function onPlayerReadyVidible(e){‘undefined’!=typeof HPTrack&&HPTrack.Vid.Vidible_track(e)}!function(e,i){if(e.vdb_Player){if(‘object’==typeof commercial_video){var a=”,o=’m.fwsitesection=’+commercial_video.site_and_category;if(a+=o,commercial_video[‘package’]){var c=’&m.fwkeyvalues=sponsorship%3D’+commercial_video[‘package’];a+=c}e.setAttribute(‘vdb_params’,a)}i(e.vdb_Player)}else{var t=arguments.callee;setTimeout(function(){t(e,i)},0)}}(document.getElementById(‘vidible_1’),onPlayerReadyVidible);

New antibiotics need to be developed urgently to combat 12 families of bacteria, the World Health Organization said on Monday, describing these “priority pathogens” as the greatest threats to human health.

The United National health agency said many of these bacteria have already evolved into deadly superbugs that are resistant to many antibiotics.

The bugs “have built-in abilities to find new ways to resist treatment” the WHO said, and can also pass on genetic material that allows other bacteria to become drug-resistant.

Governments need to invest in research and development (R&D)if new drugs are to be found in time, because market forces cannot be relied upon to boost the funds needed to fight the bugs, it said.

“Antibiotic resistance is growing, and we are fast running out of treatment options,” the WHO’s assistant director-general for health systems and innovation, Marie-Paule Kieny, said.

“If we leave it to market forces alone, the new antibiotics we most urgently need are not going to be developed in time.”

In recent decades, drug-resistant bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) or Clostridium difficile, have become a global health threat, while superbug strains of infections such as tuberculosis and gonorrhea are now untreatable.

The WHO has previously warned that many antibiotics could become totally redundant this century, leaving patients exposed to deadly infections and threatening the future of medicine.

The “priority pathogens” list published by the WHO on Monday has three rankings – critical, high and medium – according to how urgently new antibiotics are needed.

The critical group includes multidrug-resistant bacteria that pose a particular threat in hospitals, nursing homes, and other care facilities. These include Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas and various Enterobacteriaceae that can cause severe and often deadly infections such as pneumonia and septicaemia.

The second and third tiers contain other increasingly drug-resistant bacteria that cause more common diseases such as gonorrhea and food poisoning caused by salmonella.

The WHO said the list is intended to spur governments to put in place policies that incentivize basic and advanced R&D.
