The Father Of The SEAL Slain In Yemen Demands An Investigation

The father of the Navy SEAL killed in a botched Yemen raid last month wants an investigation into the White House-ordered operation that claimed his son’s life.

Bill Owens, the father of Chief Petty Officer William “Ryan” Owens, the Navy SEAL who died in the operation, accuses the Trump administration of using his son as a political prop in an interview published Sunday in The Miami Herald.

“Don’t hide behind my son’s death to prevent an investigation,” he said of the mission, which was intended for servicemen to gather laptops, cellphones and intelligence about al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula but morphed into a fiery battle that killed Owens and several civilians.

“I want an investigation. … The government owes my son an investigation,” he told The Herald, adding that he couldn’t bear to meet President Donald Trump when he came to pay his respects as Ryan’s casket was carried off the military plane.

Earlier this month, White House press secretary Sean Spicer insisted that the raid was “highly successful” and snapped back at critics who argued that Trump should not have approved such a dangerous mission.

“Anyone who undermines the success of that raid owes an apology to the life and service of Chief Owens,” Spicer said.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is among the detractors.

“I don’t believe you can call it a success,” he told reporters shortly before Spicer gave his remarks.

White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders suggested Trump may be open to a White House investigation into the raid, which was the first high-risk military operation under his watch.

“I haven’t had the chance to speak with him directly about that, but I would imagine that he would be supportive of that,” Sanders told ABC on Sunday.

New Samsung Gear VR With Wireless Controller Launched

We reported earlier this week that Samsung might be gearing up to launch a new Gear VR headset at the Mobile World Congress 2017. The new headset has officially been launched today and it’s a bit different from its predecessors. The new Gear VR comes with a wireless controller much like the one you get with Google’s Daydream View virtual reality headset.

Samsung’s new virtual reality headset comes with a wireless controller that the company has designed in collaboration with Oculus. It will make it much easier for Gear VR users to control various features of the headset.

The new Gear VR with Controller has support for both USB Type-C and microUSB ports which means that it’s compatible with the Galaxy S6 series, the Galaxy S7 series as well as the Galaxy Note 5. It will also work with the Galaxy S8 when it comes out later this year.

The controller has a clickable touchpad, navigation buttons, a trigger button, and volume keys. The touchpad makes it very easy to control the user interface and interact with apps and games in virtual reality. The controller supports motion as well, such as drag and drop, tilt, shooting, pointing, and more.

It has a wire strap to ensure that the controller doesn’t slip out of your hand. The controller requires a AAA battery which can provide up to 40 days of use when the controller is used for two hours daily.

Like previous Gear VRs, the new headset has 42mm lenses with 101 degree field of view and distortion correction. Samsung is going to release the new Gear VR at some point in the second quarter of this year. It’s likely going to cost $99 like its predecessors.

Samsung Launches Complete Portfolio Of Commercial 5G Products

Samsung has been working hard to commercialize 5G. It has been creating technology and conducting trials with carriers in major markets in a bid to become a market leader in 5G products and services. At the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona today, Samsung announced a complete portfolio of commercial 5G products and solutions.

The products included in Samsung’s end-to-end portfolio of 5G mobile network products and solutions for 2017 include consumer devices for fixed connectivity, a 5G Radio Base Station, Next-Generation Core Network infrastructure, and more. Pre-commercial versions of this equipment is in deployment already in trial networks across the globe.

“With pre-commercial deployment of our 5G products already underway in the US, we’re starting to see some of the earliest evidence of the potential for new and compelling 5G-driven services – it will be exciting to see it evolve as we move forward on our roadmap,” said Paul Kyungwhoon Cheun, Executive Vice President and Head of Next Generation Communications Business Team at Samsung Electronics.

Samsung’s 5G Home Router will provide users with direct and easy connectivity to a 5G wireless network with simple placement of the router in a window facing a nearby 5G Radio Base Station. The device will be capable of providing a peak data rate of 1Gbps. It will be user-installable so no complex procedures will be required in order to join the network.

Samsung is testing pre-commercial versions of these products with carriers in the United States, Japan, and South Korea. It’s going to conduct additional trials throughout 2017 to eventually drive the smooth introduction of an entirely new set of data services.

Samsung Confirms Galaxy S8 Announcement For March 29

It has been rumored time and again that Samsung is going to announce the Galaxy S8 in March. The company confirmed recently that it wasn’t going to unveil the new flagship at MWC 2017 and it didn’t today, but what it did confirm was when the announcement was going to take place. As reported many times over the last few weeks, Samsung is going to unveil the Galaxy S8 on March 29.

If this date sounds familiar that’s because it has already been mentioned many times in reports about the Galaxy S8. Samsung officially confirmed today that it’s going to hold the launch event for the Galaxy S8 in New York City and London on March 29.

The company also played a short video that hyped up its new flagship smartphone. The teaser basically hints that the company is going to push the envelope on design with the Galaxy S8. We’ve already seen in leaked pictures and renders that the Galaxy S8 is going to have very slim bezels and that the front will quite simply be a big piece of glass because it won’t even have a home button.

Samsung didn’t confirm anything else about the Galaxy S8 today and it doesn’t need to now that it has got us waiting for March 29th.
