Nintendo Super Bowl Commercial Pushes The Switch Console

We’ll get to see some amazing new commercials during Super Bowl 51 this Sunday. We know that Google is going to spend $5 million to air a 30-second spot about the Google Home. Nintendo is going to capitalize on the biggest TV event of the year as well to push its very own commercial that’s going to promote its next-generation gaming console, the Nintendo Switch. The console provides a glimpse at the many ways you can play games on the Switch.

The Nintendo Super Bowl commercial is a first for the company, according to Nintendo itself, and it also mentions that this is going to air in the fourth quarter of the game. The televised version of this commercial is posted above.

As previously mentioned, the Nintendo Super Bowl commercial aims to highlight the many ways you can play games on the Switch console. It can either be on the couch with friends during a lazy afternoon or with the entire family in the living room. It will even enable users to squeeze in quick gaming sessions between college classes.

Nintendo Switch is unlike PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It can double as a handheld and a docked console so owners will get the best of both worlds. It’s a good decision by Nintendo to air a commercial for its latest console during the big game as the console will go on sale not too long after that. Nintendo Switch will be available starting March 3rd for $299.

Madden NFL 18 Will Be Powered By Frostbite

ea madden
Electronic Arts has confirmed that it’s shifting its popular Madden NFL football series to the Frostbite graphics engine. The company revealed this as part of its recent earnings release. It confirmed in the material information shared with investors that starting with Madden 18, this franchise is going to be powered by the Frostbite graphics engine.

EA has previously used this graphics engine for games like Battlefield 1 and Star Wars: Battlefront. Frostbite was created by Battlefield developer DICE and EA now maintains an engineering team that’s dedicated to updating and maintaining these tools.

EA promises that the shift to the Frostbite engine for Madden is going to provide “major visual advancements and new gameplay experiences.” It says that this is going to excite dedicated Madden players who have stuck with the franchise for a very long time.

The publisher first said back in 2013 that it would shift most of its internal development to DICE’s tools. EA’s sports franchises like FIFA, NHL, and Madden lagged behind primarily due to their annual release timelines and for giving more time to EA engineers so that they could update the physics modeling in Frostbite to properly handle sports simulations.

FIFA 17 finally shifted to Frostbite last year and fans of the franchise liked what they saw even though the title held on to many of the animations that EA Sports developed for previous games in the series. That’s how it’s likely going to be for Madden as well but at least Madden 18 is going to bring a visible graphics improvement. It remains to be seen if that’s going to be one that fans like.

Tesla and BMW EVs miss top scores in shock safety tests

Tesla’s 2017 Model S has failed to score top marks in auto safety crash testing, with the electric sedan falling short of IIHS’ 2017 Top Safety Pick+ rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s trials sit alongside – and in some cases are more stringent than – the US government’s own NHTSA crash testing. PlayStation And Xbox Piracy Forums Hacked, 2.5 Million Passwords Leaked

xbox-playstation-piracy-hack
Game piracy is next to impossible on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 but if you’ve ever made an account on Xbox360ISO.com or PSPISO.com then it’s time that you should think about changing your passwords, particularly if you use the same password elsewhere on the internet. Both piracy forums have been hacked as a result of which passwords of more than 2.5 million users have been leaked online.

According to reports, the sites were hacked by an unknown attacker in late 2015 but details of the hack are just now becoming public. User data of more than 2.5 million people has been leaked. This includes passwords, usernames, IP addresses, and email addresses.

It’s said that the operator of both websites only used the MD5 hashing system to protect passwords and it’s notoriously easy to break that. If you’ve never heard of these forums before, they existed for one reason only and that was to share pirated copies of games for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation Portable.

The community went far beyond that, though, and discussed general topics as well so it’s not like all those who have been impacted by this hack were involved in the distribution of pirated games.

Details about the hack are slim at this point in time so it’s unclear what the hacker’s motives here could have been. There’s no mention of any ransom being demanded in exchange for the data being spared. Perhaps we might get to hear more about this in the coming weeks.

Apple ‘Mac Guy’ Is Now Selling PCs for Huawei

If someone were to ask you to list some of the most memorable advertising campaigns ever launched by a technology company, Apple’s “Get a Mac” campaign will be right up there with the best of them. The campaign featured actor Justin Long as the “Mac Guy” who came off as cool and trendy against the nerdy and flabbergasted Windows PC guy. That campaign ended a long time ago and you’ll now start seeing the Apple Mac Guy sell PCs for Huawei.

Huawei is one of the biggest tech companies in China. It already has a big presence in several markets across the globe but the company still has some work to do before it can be as big in the United States as Apple and Samsung.

This latest ad campaign is an effort to leverage a familiar face and sell some PCs in the process. Justin Long appeared in his first Huawei ad at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 last month and two new spots titled The Interview and The Audition have now been released on YouTube. The aim is to sell the Windows 10-powered Huawei MateBook.

According to reports, Huawei wanted Long to be more upfront with his previous work as Apple’s Mac Guy but it’s said that the actor and the ad agency both convinced Huawei to tone down the message so now he only says “I have a tonne of experience in tech” while trying to sell you a MateBook.

Huawei P10 Lite Specs Reveal 4GB RAM

huawei-mate-9-review_12
Huawei is expected to launch a couple of new smartphones in the near future. The Huawei P10 flagship and its P10 Lite sibling might very well be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona later this month. We’ve been hearing rumors and reports about these smartphones and now the P10 Lite is believed to have made a pit stop over at Geekbench where it has revealed some of its specifications.

According to the Geekbench listing, this unreleased Huawei smartphone with model number WAS-LX1A features the company’s own Kirin 655 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM. Bear in mind that the company hasn’t confirmed anything officially about this handset as yet so these specs are far from confirmed.

It also mentions that the handset is going to run Android 7.0 Nougat straight out of the box. No further details have been revealed by the benchmark listing so far but you can form an idea of what it’s going to offer since this is meant to be a mid-range smartphone.

The Huawei P10 is obviously going to be considerably better and more powerful than this handset. Recent reports have also suggested that it might be the most expensive handset that Huawei has ever released in its P series.

We will find out soon enough if all of this is true. MWC 2017 kicks off February 26th.

Fixed GoPro Karma drone returns to skies to save firm’s fortunes

GoPro’s Karma drone is back on sale, after having been yanked from shelves over a flaw that could literally see it fall uncontrollably from the skies. The troubled camera-quadcopter was recalled back in November 2016, after GoPro identified a fault with the battery latching mechanism. While that might not seem significant, it was enough to cause a handful of the … Continue reading

Google Allo For Android Drops Out Of Top 500 Apps Chart

google-allo
Despite all of the initial hype associated with the launch of its new messaging application, it appears that Google Allo has fallen out of the Top 500 free apps chart on the Play Store. You can head over to the Play Store right now and check out the chart of the Top 500 free apps and you’re not going to find Allo.

Chart data provided by App Annie clearly shows that this isn’t the first time that Google Allo has fallen out of the chart. It has done that multiple times over the past few weeks. The overall trajectory is downward and there haven’t been any big spikes to suggest that there’s renewed interest in the app.

Historical data shows that Allo’s ranking has been in free-fall since December last year. If it continues like this, Google may very well have to chalk Allo up as yet another one of its obscure services that not many people use. If the company wants to reignite interest in the app it may have to come out with some big feature updates that get people excited about Allo once again.

Google hasn’t really confirmed at this point in time how it’s going to further improve its new communication apps that include Allo and Duo. The company is likely to make efforts to turn this around and it will be interesting to see what it pulls out of its hat this time.
