The $10 Raspberry Pi Zero W is the teeniest little Wi-Fi-enabled computer you’ve ever seen

img_3020 When the original $5 Raspberry Pi Zero came out – to much fanfare, I might add – users connected it to all sorts of things. They made micro gaming rigs that ran on the 1GHz single-core CPU and added Pi Hats – little breakout boards – to power robots and sensors. Now you can do all that but without worrying about a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth dongle. The $10 Pi Zero W is the… Read More

Guy Rides a Logging Machine Like a Rodeo Bull

Mechanical bulls at fairly horrifying and can even potentially kill you. Riding real bulls is even crazier. You know what is crazier than that? Trying to stay in the saddle while the mechanical arm of a logging machine is trying to throw you off of a log that it’s waving around like a conductor leading an orchestra. It is positively petrifying. I wood not try this.

The Dudesons are basically Finland’s version of Jackass. For one of their latest stunts, they used a Ponsse Scorpion harvester in the coolest and most irresponsible way possible. They threw a saddle on a stripped log and tried to ride it for as long as possible without getting thrown off. Or dying for that matter.

It looks both terrifying and fun, and definitely not something anyone should ever try at home.

Pilot Gets 30 Days In Jail For Knocking Woman Unconscious With Drone

If you plan on flying a drone, you should probably get some practice lest you end up with slapped with a fine and some jail time. Back in 2015 Paul Skinner, an aerial photographer, was using a drone to cover the city’s Pride Parade. He was using a drone that weighed 2 pounds and measured 18-by-18.

Unfortunately the drone flew into a building and was knocked down from the sky, falling onto a 25-year old woman’s head who happened to be in the audience, knocking her out in the process. The accident also ended up injuring a man nearby, and all of this ultimately resulted in Skinner getting hit with a $500 fine and was also sentenced to 30 days in jail as he was found guilty of reckless endangerment.

Drone accidents do happen from time to time and in the past we have heard how drones have cost a toddler his eye, and how a groom was sued at his own wedding after he crashed a drone during his party and injured some of the guests. However Skinner’s lawyer Jeffrey Kradel told The Seattle Times that he believes that the punishment was too severe for what was clearly an accident, and thinks that Skinner is being used to set an example to other drone pilots.

However Assistant City Prosecutor Raymond Lee begs to differ and says that the public “should not fear a drone strike falling from the sky”. This incident isn’t quite over and done with as Skinner has another hearing scheduled where the medical fees he owes the woman will be determined.

Porsche Design Unveils 2-in-1 Windows 10 Convertible

[MWC 2017] Porsche Design might be a name familiar to some of you, where in the past the company has collaborated with the likes of BlackBerry to create Porsche Design BlackBerry smartphones. Recently Porsche Design also teamed up with Huawei for a special version of the Huawei Watch 2, and now it looks like they’re applying their design philosophy to tablets.

Announced at MWC 2017, Porsche Design took the wraps off a 2-in-1 Windows 10 convertible. For those unfamiliar with convertibles, basically these are tablet/laptop hybrids where thanks to either a swiveling display or a detachable keyboard, it can be switched from laptop mode to tablet mode in an instant.

Dubbed the Porsche Design BOOK ONE, the device will feature a 7th-gen Intel Core i7-7500U processor that is clocked at 3.5GHz. It will also come with a whopping 16GB of RAM, an Intel SSD with 512GB of storage, 2x USB-C ports, 2x USB 3.0 ports, and 1x USB 3.1 Type-C/Thunderbolt 3 port.

It also comes with a 13.3-inch QHD+ 3200×1800 display, a 5MP front-facing camera that works with facial recognition with Windows Hello, and since this runs on Windows 10, expect support for Cortana as well. Unsurprisingly this device does not come cheap as it is priced at $2,495 and will be going on sale in April 2017.

Amazon’s Alexa Could Soon Distinguish Between Voices

How often have you accidentally had Siri or Google Now activate because something was said in a song, on radio, in a movie, or by someone else that sounded like the activation word? Just last month it seems that a news broadcaster had accidentally set off quite a few Amazon Echo devices and asked them to buy dollhouses because of what he said.

Granted there wasn’t really any damage and to a certain extent it is pretty funny, but many have suggested that perhaps in the future, being able to distinguish between voices is something that companies should look at. We’re not sure where Apple and Google are in their efforts, but a report from TIME has revealed that Amazon could be working on something of their own.

According to the report, they quite sources who claim that Amazon is working on a feature that will help Alexa distinguish between different voices, such as those made by the owner of the Alexa-powered device, versus a sound from TV, music, and other users. The report claims that this feature is called “Voice ID” and has actually been in development since at least the summer of 2015. Assuming this is true, it means that Amazon has known about these limitations for a while.

Distinguishing between voices could also be useful for security purposes where trying to pull up private information will not be allowed unless the voice software detects that it is the owner. No word on when Amazon plans on rolling out this feature, but it sounds like it could be quite welcome.
