Mind-Blowing New Theory Connects Black Holes, Dark Matter, and Gravitational Waves

Scientists spotted the Higgs boson, a particle they’d been hunting for almost 50 years, in 2012, and gravitational waves, which were theorized 100 years ago, in 2016. This year, they’re slated to take a picture of a black hole. So, thought some…

Razer Blade Pro Gets Kaby Lake Processor, THX Certification

Razer brought back its Blade Pro notebook late last year with fresh hardware that was worthy of the notebook’s “Pro” moniker. It was very well received and fans of the company’s gaming-oriented notebooks are going to like what it has to offer now. Razer has refreshed the Blade Pro lineup to the latest Kaby Lake processor from Intel. It also has the distinction of being the first ever THX-certified laptop.

The 17.3 inch laptop now comes with an overclockable 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7-7820HD processor and its 32GB RAM has received a timing bump to 2,667MHz from the 2,133MHz of the previous edition. It retains the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card.

What’s interesting about this laptop is that it’s said to be the first device notebook to get THX Mobile Certification which is an “accreditation reserved for high-performance mobile phones, tablets, and laptops.”

The Razer Blade Pro’s screen has been calibrated and tested for resolution, color accuracy, and video playback performance on THX processes. The audio jack has also met THX requirements for voltage output, frequency response, distortion, signal-to-noise ratio, and crosstalk.

An important distinction needs to be made here, only the screen and headphone jack are THX certified, not the built-in speakers.

The specs aren’t the only thing that has received a bump. The price has been increased as well. Razer is now selling the Blade Pro for $3,999. It will be available for purchase from Razer’s website starting next month.

Twitter Brings Ads To Periscope Videos

If you’re really into watching Periscope videos then you have to mentally prepare yourself for ads. Periscope, owned by Twitter, is soon going to display pre-roll ads to viewers. Twitter has confirmed today that it’s now going to start making money off of its streaming service that’s over two years old. The monetization plans start with pre-roll video ads on both live and archived videos.

This provides Twitter with yet another revenue stream at a time when its ability to make money is under scrutiny by investors. It’s not just Twitter that stands to gain by allowing pre-roll ads on Periscope.

Major Periscope broadcasters also stand to make money off of these pre-roll ads on their videos. Initially, pre-roll ads on Periscope will only appear on popular live videos such as sports games and fashion shows.

It’s possible that eventually, the average Periscope user may also be able to profit from broadcasting their lives to the public but that’s something that hasn’t been detailed at this point in time.

The pre-roll ads on Periscope will vary in length and users will be able to skip the ones that are longer. Some users will obviously not like having to see ads before the video they want to watch plays but others will gladly make that compromise in exchange for free content.

Facebook Gets Its Own Version Of Snapchat Stories

Facebook has relentlessly been copying some of Snapchat’s core features across several of its products. Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp have all cloned Snapchat’s popular Stories feature and now it’s the social network’s turn. Facebook proper has now released a new feature in its mobile apps today which enables users to send messages and content that disappears automatically after some time. That’s precisely what Stories does on Snapchat.

It hasn’t even bothered to choose a different name. Facebook Stories has been officially announced today. It allows users to share multiple photos and videos as part of a visual collection on top of their News Feed.

All of their friends will be able to view photos and videos in their story for 24 hours. The stories won’t appear on their timeline or News Feed unless users post them there too.

Adding a story is easy, all users need to do is tap on the “Your Story” icon that’s located in the new Stories bar at the top of the News Feed.

The Facebook app for iOS and Android also has a new feature called Direct which lets users share photos and videos with specific friends for a limited time.

The recipient who gets a photo or video via Direct will be able to view it once and replay it or write a reply. Once the conversation on the content ends it’s no longer visible. That’s basically how Snapchat does it.

The new features are now being rolled out for Facebook on both iOS and Android globally starting today.
